This Hypercross Was Also a Contest!
Though it shows me as having written this Hypercross, in fact, all I did was "produce" it. EIGHTEEN other Tanga users each created ONE clue for this puzzle, and then they competed against each other.
Solvers voted for the THREE (3) clues they thought were best. What did "best" mean? That was completely up to them. How it worked:
• Solvers posted a comment here with their three votes, identified by their clue numbers.
• All three votes were equal, so it didn't matter what order they listed them in.
• All three votes were public, as you can see.
• This was totally optional, people played only if they felt like it.
• Puzzlemakers were required to vote. Additionally, they could not vote for themslves.
The Winners
were announced Thursday, December 18 in the General Discussion area, here:

I hate the beatles but really liked this puzzle. The clueing was GREAT!!
#5, #14, #16 -- These are all a half step above the rest, all of which are well done.
3 (which this is not a vote for) is sacrilege. Yes, I exaggerate, but I really don't think excrement is called for in puzzle-solving -- especially when it's cluing something so nice.
8, 12, 15,
Hard to pick just three. Nice job everyone.
It was several years before I realized that "Beatles" isn't a real word. I don't know the full scoop behind the name, but I do know it's misspealled.
4, 11, 15
3, 4, 5
It's a shame that a lot of the other ones that were accepted weren't used.
Super fun!
Thanks Arnott & all creators!

[64]I was looking forward to posting that number of message. Oh well, when I'm 66, I'll post a comment.
5, 1, 17
3 - tee hee
6 - clever
5 - probably the best clue ever. not just in this puzzle, but of all time. i mean starting from pre-big bang cryptopix (studied via their fossil records - yeah i know there was no earth, leave me alone!) until now - the best. so funny i actually had to e-mail several folks who aren't tanga users to tell them to look.
and it certainly isn't a coincidence that #5 was the name of one of one of the first self-aware, conscious robots in movie history (yes i said ONE of the first!)
thank you #5. you made my day.
1, 5, 11

Hey, Gang,
Was gone all night, only just able to check in for a few minutes, but, may I just say...
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
4, 12, 18
Took me forever to figure out #4, but once I did, and realized the depth of the clue, absolutely loved it.
3, 8, 17
2, 5, 14!
I agree with [68] clue #5 is just incredible.

5, 9, 16
3, 5, 16
Oh man, I've got to savor this for a few minutes before I vote. While solving I was marveling at how smart and cool the whole thing was and kind of nodding to myself at how great it was that some more obscure songs were clued so brilliantly. Good on you all, constructors.
5, 16, 18

OK, #5 sheer brilliance. agree with [68]
# 4 hillarity
# 18 i love the song so much it makes my heart hurt
What I find interesting is how EVERY single clue has been voted for here. That just goes to show how everyone has different tastes around here! It also shows that all of the submitters did a great job with the clues, and Arnott did a great job selecting the clues to use for the puzzle.
Very cool!

This was a lot of fun! It was hard to pick just three
18, 9, 3
This was fun, though I was slightly shocked that there were songs I'd not heard of.
It's really hard to vote for only three, but I'll go for #s 1, 9, and 16.
I wish I could vote for six of them.
5, 14, and 16
Just checking back today to see all the comments/votes. This was an AWESOME puzzle. Thanks again to everyone involved.
I am convinced that The Beatles will be the music that defines the last half of the 20th century in a couple hundred years.
The first time I heard #5 (at age 11) was a life changing event. Still the best song I have ever heard.
