This puzzle is best enjoyed with a nice vinho verde.
    Cheers!

  3. 6-9-06Xylophonehouck on Mon May 11, 2009 07:17 PM

I "Promise" I'm spelling them all correctly and they Still don't like me! ...sigh

  4. Avatar_profileEggplantninjoo on Mon May 11, 2009 07:20 PM

[3] me too...double and triple checked...unless I need to use accents

  5. FileCheeseburgerErich on Mon May 11, 2009 07:20 PM

    [3] #7 tripped me up for a while, spelling-wise.

  6. FileOnionzyrilia on Mon May 11, 2009 07:20 PM

Would certainly have gone faster if I could remember how to spell. Very fun!

  7. FileSailboatsteve59 on Mon May 11, 2009 07:22 PM

hnmmm. I think I have them all and it's not taking.

  8. Avatar_profileEggplantninjoo on Mon May 11, 2009 07:23 PM

    I had 5 wrong...

  9. CheemaEggcheema on Mon May 11, 2009 07:23 PM

Yes, me too, I entered incorrect spellings and googie corrected and checked them all to no avail.

  10. 6-9-06Xylophonehouck on Mon May 11, 2009 07:24 PM

    Is anyone willing to spellcheck

  11. FileSailboatsteve59 on Mon May 11, 2009 07:27 PM

ah! it was #10. I've usually seen a less-americanized spelling

  12. FileEggj15bell on Mon May 11, 2009 07:31 PM

    sent you a tg [10]

  13. FileDuckietwofalls on Mon May 11, 2009 07:32 PM

I was stumped by #9 for a while, til I remembered my Catholic upbringing. D'oh!!

  14. 6-9-06Xylophonehouck on Mon May 11, 2009 07:38 PM

My problem was an alternate spelling of #10 too

  15. Pretzel3_profileTomatoDavmar on Mon May 11, 2009 07:41 PM

#4 is not coming to me

    post and solve

  16. 160Carrotbtmeyers on Mon May 11, 2009 07:57 PM

that took forever... some very obscure answers in my opinion

for those stuck on the ones i was... for #8, use an adjective for the first part, and #9 ignore the A.

  17. Bluefeather1forSailboatFeather on Mon May 11, 2009 08:08 PM

#10 was getting me. I've never heard of it and I consider myself a "snob-in-training." And then it took awhile to find the American spelling. Fun puzzle otherwise, time to open a bottle.

  18. OctopusPeppercomishcraig on Mon May 11, 2009 08:22 PM

Honestly...the subject and clues are too obscure. I can't make much sense of a lot of the clues.

  19. FileEggj15bell on Mon May 11, 2009 08:36 PM

had fun with this one even with the hiccups I had.

    time to have fun???

so we can help out some of those that are having problems????

    #1 is da bubbly
#2 you can have with some fava beans. (wish I could type that sound)
#3 sounds like a french fem stooge.
#4 sounds like someone under a HMO plan. :)

anyone else want to join in for some fun?

  20. FileSailboatdagibbs on Mon May 11, 2009 08:41 PM

[16] on number 9 you should not ignore the A, it is properly pronounced with the A.

I think I've got all of them but #4.

    [edit] Post and solve

How about hints for 8 and 10?

  22. FileEggj15bell on Mon May 11, 2009 09:14 PM

#8 what is the pig in? the rest is a major division of geologic time.

#10 is rather literal. only spelling needs correcting. google what you see and attach the subject the theme is looking for.

  23. Avatar_profilePepperdarthbarthus on Mon May 11, 2009 09:26 PM

[22] Thanks, I finally got it.

  24. FileOnionRickj4029 on Tue May 12, 2009 01:00 AM

It would have been nice to know if we were talking about regions or types since they are not the same.

This made the puzzle incredibly difficult.

  25. FilePumpkinjeffg on Tue May 12, 2009 05:48 AM

    Spelling:

#11 is sans the final s.

    #7 I before E except in #8.

#10 is spelled the way it sounds in English.

  26. Avatar_profileOrangeSpidey00 on Tue May 12, 2009 07:28 AM

#9 is really bugging me - can't make anything fit (unless I have 8 and 11 wrong).

  27. Przewalskis-horseDuckiecrashbaptiste on Tue May 12, 2009 09:29 AM

[26] I had to use a crossword solver for #11... number 9 appears in a Billy Joel song- (Scenes from an Italian Restaurant)

  28. Avatar_profilePotatocanyc on Tue May 12, 2009 11:40 AM

Fun puzzle! I had all but two of them before I had to hit google, though remembering the exact spelling on 8 and 11 took a sec

Are Philana's clues ever NOT amusing as hell?

  30. BirdGrapesalittlebirdtoldme on Tue May 12, 2009 03:47 PM

poor, non wine-drinking me! thank goodness for google!

  31. Avatar_profileOrangeSpidey00 on Tue May 12, 2009 06:38 PM
