Not sure how #8 is clued, but I took a guess and got it.
I can't tell how ANY are clued....you are way ahead of me...lol
I liked this one. [1] You have to notice the letter shift portion at the bottom of that clue.
#15 and #17 helped me get the theme.
I just don't know #8! Got it!
Nice puzzle! Loved clue #11! : )
[1] Ditto. I had another word (well, two words) originally, but just kept trying things that fit. I don't see how the eventual correct answer fits the photo, though.
I believe I have them all right, but it's not taking them. Any clues on what might be tripping me up?
Edit: Never mind. Got it.
[5] I might have chosen an image showing proof of land ownership
I think for #8, the green arrow is not meant to be cluing covered up letters, instead it is meant to just be this: W-->D (to letters with an arrow between them)
Well, that was fun dmlafrance, Thanks!
[7] I'll check a list if you wish
Like [7]. I think I've had these right for a while, but it's not taking for me, either. : (
I initially went with a different add-on that was working pretty well for me until I got to #14. Then my husband figured that one out and we were on a roll!
[7] Might check your spelling on #2. Seems like a word that would be easy to misspell.
having trouble with #3
I got needlessly held up on #2 trying to figure out how a giraffe factored into the answer
[2] there's a play on words in the title that will get you the theme.
[11] cheema's getting [7] so I'll check you if you'd like. :)
[13] They aren't pleats. You might also find them in folded paper.
I just found out that the thing in #2 is called a Brannock device. Not that it helped out much here.
[15] TG sent
[13] that was my last one too. If you're like me, you need to get "pleats" out of your mind and think of a general word that could substitute for a fold in any item/material
#2 is called a Brannock device. Not sure how to get that into the spaces provided....
I DO like the clue for 8, pretty picture!
Ahh, put SHOE first, then sink your teeth into it!
Thanks [16] I was incompleat without your assistance!
Took me until #7 to figure out what we were going for here, but then was able to whip through it. Fun!
Sonjahi, thanks again! You pushed me into tuber territory!
Okay, I got it! Thanks [15]! The action word for #3 actually fits the grid, too. It tripped me up.
Great one, dmlafrance!
well...that took awhile...I had them all awhile ago, but for some reason thought half of them had another prefix, and still were all real words.
Thanks everybody and, [8] That might have been easier, but I'm with [20] it's a prettier picture. :)
the 121st Tanga member to solve it. Fun one! #8 was HARD!
Brannock device minus shoe giraffe is just not computing for me :(
The only problem with #8 imo is that the space between the W and D is just enough for you to think it's cluing the letters in between as what you need. But if you stop and think about it, we never use arrows for that and you can't make a sensible word with the theme using just those letters.
My husband and I really liked the puzzley nature of that clue in particular. Most of the rest of the puzzle was a breeze once we figured out the theme (which wasn't easy!) but that one made us pause and we were quite pleased when we got it.
[28] Don't use "Brannock device" - use what us normal people might call that thing (i.e. a simple layman's term). And ignore that the shoe is a giraffe. That's just for grins. :)
[30] Thanks, Sonja! That one really tripped me up!
[28] If you Google "Brannock Device" you will find what you need.
[30] You are right about the giraffe shoe - I just couldn't pass it up :)
[32] We thoroughly enjoyed the giraffe too!
#13 is not tassels. Had me stumped for the longest time.
I have NO idea WHAT is going on!
[34] Yeah, you could say that one is really out there, you know like it's on the ...........
Or it's part of the ........... element.
I'm stuck on [8], and don't see how I'm going to figure it out. Everything else came rather easily. Actually, [29] you CAN make a word using the unused letters (phonetically), it's what most of us have on our belly - some go one way, some another. That's what I thought it was at first, and was trying to figure out how to spell it so it would be long enough. I see from others' notes, that I'm way off with that, but the 'direction' doesn't bring anything to mind... W to D?
good job dmlafrance.
[37], I was misreading #8 as well. But it does use standard cluing nomenclature-- W arrow D meaning change W to D. If it keeps stumping you, maybe you should toke a blunt and relax. ha. :P
It looks like I am the only one asking for salt on #16... I feel isolated! That's the only one I just can't get!
Duh, had 15 wrong... that's why 16 wouldnt fit.
#16 is just what it shows. try google.
[41] Yep. There's 4 examples of the same thing so it's just plural.
[37] Did [39] help you? I figured out what word you were using phonetically. That means you know the word that's being clued. So change the W to a D and you should have the answer.
edit: [40] Ahh! I had that word at first too. But my husband balanced me out by pointing out what #15 should be when I saw that #16 wouldn't fit with it. :)
Very nice puzzle!
[39] [42] Thanks! Got it. Somehow, I hadn't seen that convention within the word, only next to it, and hadn't been able to figure out where to go. I even had the correct word come up on a crossword search of the letters I had, and didn't think that was right. I guess because the 'W' turns into a 'D', but there is already a 'D' there, so I got confused.
[42] I'm glad you figured out which word I had got from it phonetically. It makes me feel validated somehow. :)
Well, now that I've got it solved, I feel like part of the In-crowd!
I'm back 8 days later and still have NO clue what-so-ever!!!!!
