That would have been a lot easier if I'd read the title beforehand.

  2. FilePancakesA_Beaverhausen on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:06 PM

    can't get the hands one...

  3. Phi3CornPhilana on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:06 PM

I can't figure out the first one across and the one with the motocycle.

  4. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:07 PM

[2] I saw that coming. You might need to get the whole gang to help you with that one.

  5. Ronald-mcd-3EggKilgore on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:08 PM

    [3] whose on the motorcycles?

I don't get the hands either

  6. Avatar_profileCarrotalchemist on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:10 PM

[3] and [5] Who would use hand signs?

  7. FileTomatobcgrote on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:18 PM

I have all the right answers, but it is saying it isn't correct....Same from yesterday, but will we ever see that solution? Nope...

    Which word is misspelled?

  8. Avatar_profileCarrotalchemist on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:11 PM

They are all spelled correctly :)

  9. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:12 PM

[7] Maybe a misspelling on the boxer or the sword-wielder? Only ones I can think of that might be a little difficult to spell.

  10. Avatar_profilePeachUethym on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:12 PM

    Yup, they are all fine.

  11. FileBananaethnosax on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:13 PM

    On the motorcycles:

Think of all the synonyms for "law enforcement officers" until you get one that has a really obvious theme answer.

Still working on the hands, but otherwise this one was too simple and obvious for my tastes. Somewhat clever.

  12. FileAcecontrerasjoe on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:15 PM

    Stuck on the motorcycle.

*Nevermind it just came to me*

  13. Avatar_profileWatermelonKent89 on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:13 PM

[7], [8] Same problem here. I thought I had this thing completed five minutes ago but it won't accept it. Can't figure out what could be wrong.

  14. MeGrapesgahndalph on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:13 PM

[7] my guess is the boxer- or maybe I am thinking of the wrong answer

  15. FileTomatobcgrote on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:13 PM

Anyone want to GM me? I have them all... I even tried capitalization, sometimes that can make a difference, but it is still not releasing me :-(

  16. Ronald-mcd-3EggKilgore on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:13 PM

    [6] a deaf person

  17. FileTomatobcgrote on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:14 PM

For the boxer, I just keep hearing Howard Cosell's famous phrase.....

  18. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:15 PM

[11] Fair enough, but I like to reach out to those who maybe don't have the serious puzzle-solving skills that many longtime tanganites have.

  19. FileTomatobcgrote on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:15 PM

ok, got it... now about yesterdays.... :-)

  20. FileDuckienrkii on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:16 PM

I don't know who the sword wielder is ... have all the others

  21. MeGrapesgahndalph on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:18 PM

got it- I was thinking way too general for the hands

  22. Avatar_profileWatermelonKent89 on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:18 PM

    [20] He ain't no girly-man.

  23. FileDuckienrkii on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:20 PM

[22] thanks so much... I found him with an image search... "animated sword man hero"... I love the internet

  24. Ronald-mcd-3EggKilgore on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:20 PM

[20] 80s cartoon with Universe in the title. any salt for the first across?

  25. FileCarrotpitamuffin on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:20 PM

Spelling on the boxer tripped me up.

  26. ImagineStrawberryagirlthats4corn on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:22 PM

    what about the snake?

  27. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:24 PM

[24] Your puzzle problems are really of no consequence. Have you considered the violent, inner city rivalries plaguing us nowadays?

  28. Ronald-mcd-3EggKilgore on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:24 PM

    [26] It's a cobra.

  29. FilePancakesA_Beaverhausen on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:42 PM

[27] I finally got it, but I don't get it.

Edit: OHHHHHHHH, I get it. cute

  30. FilePearckpete2887 on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:26 PM

    Got them all.

[16] Who else? Think of what 50 cent, Snoop Dogg, etc. like to rap about...

[29] There are two main groups that are archrivals. The rapper-members of them like to kill eachother every now and then for fun.

  31. FilePancakesA_Beaverhausen on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:25 PM

[26] There's a Jungle Book story about this animal.

  32. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:25 PM

[29] Enough beating around the bush, I guess. The hands spell something out.

  33. FileAcecontrerasjoe on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:26 PM

    [26] Rickitickitavi

  34. Avatar_profileWatermelonKent89 on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:27 PM

Well, I finally figured it out. That first one across is not a very good clue or answer. I want my money back!

  35. Ronald-mcd-3EggKilgore on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:29 PM

    [32]robrizob
Thank you, thank you for beating me over the head! Got it!

  36. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:30 PM

[34] I was particularly proud of that clue, but to each his own.

  37. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:32 PM

Hey, kind of nice continuation from yesterday :)

Have no clue on the hands one, and had the wrong answer for the first down from the left for a bit.

  38. Tanga-pink-avatarBananaMorganza on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:33 PM

All but the hands of the signer.

  39. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:38 PM

Ah, okay, got the hands one. My problem is that I think of both of those... sworn enemies as being plural, so I wasn't looking in that direction.

Nice, otherwise. My favorite was the rabbit, though I'm not sure he (she?) falls into the "sworn enemy" category :)

  40. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:38 PM

[37] Not near as good as yours from yesterday, I know, but still fun, I hope.

  41. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:39 PM

    [39] Yeah, friendly rivals maybe?

  42. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:39 PM

Still fun, indeed. And perhaps even better, solvable in under an hour :)

  43. Avatar_profileGrapesKtCallista on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:44 PM

umm I don't do rappers or sports. . . can I get some googleable salt for the hands and the boxer?

  44. Tanga-pink-avatarBananaMorganza on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:47 PM

I tried every 4-letter word in my dictionary that started with the right letter and might have had a natural enemy. No luck. :-(

[Yes, including the famous brand name.]

  45. Tanga-pink-avatarBananaMorganza on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:51 PM

... and of course as soon as I posted that I got it. Thanks, [29]!

  46. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Fri Sep 14, 2007 07:53 PM

[44] Alas, I'm not sure it's a real word. Well, rather, it's a proper noun that might not be in your dictionary (though it could).

It is a sign... but it's not a sign that's signed. It's more thrown, or thrown down.

I had an advantage in getting this one, as I live in Los Angeles.

  47. FileAppleLegomancer on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:00 PM

[43] It's possible that puzzle-solving just isn't in your blood.

  48. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:03 PM

Don't think I'd ever have gotten the hands without the salt. Thanks all!

  49. Avatar_profileAppleqwertyca on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:03 PM

The hands spell out a word. The people who would make such a sign hate Snoop Dogg (among others). Snoop's friend actually received the death penalty for his work in establishing the hand guy's rivals.

  50. Avatar_profileWatermelonslinker on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:08 PM

I usually suck at these, but this one was easy/fun for me. Aside from spelling issues [9]...I misspelled both. I guess being raised in a ghetto neighborhood helped me with the hands, here is some salt for it (I feel bad for thinking it, but it popped in my head unbidden)

    One across salt:
Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld / J-Juh-Jimmy / Christopher Reeve

  51. 16046416814695847231e60Lemonsk8ingbeaver on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:10 PM

[43] google "gang list" and "fly like a butterfly sting like a bee"

  52. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:12 PM

    [51] I believe it's "float" not "fly."

  53. 16046416814695847231e60Lemonsk8ingbeaver on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:17 PM

the only ones im stuck on are the police, snake, and that black and white photo. any salt?

  54. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:22 PM

[53] For the police, think of a reality show they star in. The snake is more specific. The black and white photo, well, focus on the caption.

  55. Avatar_profileGrapesKtCallista on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:22 PM

    [51]Thanks!

  56. Avatar_profileRocketgreenie on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:25 PM

[23] - Thanks - that got it for me. For the boxer, there are a number of possibilities, but only one name fits.

And a nice change from yesterday's hard one - no brute force here. Nice puzzle.

  57. 16046416814695847231e60Lemonsk8ingbeaver on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:27 PM

    no problem

  58. Avatar_profileApplepyrok on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:27 PM

I loved the snake and the cartoon clues -brought back happy memories. Great puzzle! Had to look up the enemy of the boxer (salt: specific names are used) but I knew who it was so it wasn't hard to find one of them that fit.

  59. Avatar_profileKiwibunnymama on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:32 PM

Got them all without Googling, except for the boxer. I knew the answer but had to look up spelling.

I even recognized the hand sign. Had a friend that taught me that probably over 15 years ago. (neither of us were 'club' members.)

  60. Avatar_profileApplekswitz on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:32 PM

help with the rabbit??? I have all the others with no salt, but can't figure out that one!

  61. FileDuckiedavey3 on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:35 PM

80% easy, but that other 20% was nearly impossible (at least for me)!

No way I would have figured out the first across (with the hands) unless my teenage son happened to look over my shoulder.

Also, it took us a ton of web searches to identify the cartoon character guy. Normally I'd have given up (I hate trying to ID pictures!), but it was the last clue I needed for the complete solve.

  62. Avatar_profilePeachCUTHALI0N on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:36 PM

    Very nice. I like.

[60] haven't you ever seen the commercials?

  63. Avatar_profileWatermelonslinker on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:36 PM

[60] I don't have any salt but I do have several baby goats you can have.

  64. Avatar_profileLemonPanda on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:47 PM

    Loved this puzzle!!

  65. PaxStrawberrymrsgottrocks on Fri Sep 14, 2007 09:08 PM

Can someone please leave a little more salt on the hands? I have googled just about everything I can think of based on the salt here, and I am still clueless except that I know the first letter. Sigh.

EDIT: Geesh. I had the word all along, based on the clues here, but had the spelling of the Ali clue wrong. [beating head against wall]. Thanks to everyone for the great salt, which no doubt forced the blood to rush to my brain and finally figure out what I was doing wrong.

  66. Avatar_profileApplekswitz on Fri Sep 14, 2007 08:55 PM

thanks for help with the rabbit... I was going generic, rather than thinking of that particular rabbit.

  67. AvatarApplebagherra on Fri Sep 14, 2007 09:15 PM

    boo on the baseball clue!

  68. Avatar_profileRadishBetaPrime on Fri Sep 14, 2007 09:25 PM

Only one I'm not getting is the apple one. None of the enemies I think of (IBM, doctor, worm, etc) would work...

  69. Avatar_profilePlumFermiDisciple on Fri Sep 14, 2007 09:31 PM

[68] Keep trying, BetaPrime! Don't quit so Zune!

  70. Tanga_profile_photoRaspberryWhiteKnight85 on Fri Sep 14, 2007 09:59 PM

I enjoyed this puzzle, but I didn't care for the hand sign one. It's quite likely that the problem is with me and I'm just too uptight. But I don't like the idea of using this kind of thing in a light, fun activity like a Tanga puzzle.

I don't want to be desensitized, and I certainly don't want anyone thinking that the hand signs are cool or neat or fun or whatever.

Like I said, I admit that maybe it's just me, but when I realized where that was going, I found it jarring in the context of a Tanga puzzle. (An otherwise fun one at that.)

  71. Avatar_profileAppleositobrian on Fri Sep 14, 2007 10:10 PM

[68] I think Google is much more of an enemy to the answer for that one.....

  72. Avatar_profilePlumsamus on Sat Sep 15, 2007 05:59 AM

Hand signs... best clue in the puzzle.

  73. FileGrapesdantan98 on Sat Sep 15, 2007 06:17 AM

Am I the only one having issues with the Native Americans pictured? =-/
EDIT: Nevermind... I feel silly now. At least I can blame the fact that it's early. =-]

  74. Avatar_profilePlumsamus on Sat Sep 15, 2007 06:08 AM

I kept trying to find a way to make "GI Joe" fit as an answer to the snake one.

  75. Interlocking_nyRadishNiner on Sat Sep 15, 2007 06:25 AM

[73] i can't figure that one or the Cobra...

  76. Interlocking_nyRadishNiner on Sat Sep 15, 2007 06:28 AM

[73] - just figured the native american,,, think of a game you played as kids --- similiar to the guy on the motorcycle and his enemy.

  77. Interlocking_nyRadishNiner on Sat Sep 15, 2007 06:45 AM

ok got the cobra clue, but now Ali is wrong!!

  78. Interlocking_nyRadishNiner on Sat Sep 15, 2007 06:49 AM

    finally completed

  79. FileGrapesChadel on Sat Sep 15, 2007 07:39 AM

Help. I have them all but the super-hero! Any a.m. salt?

Finally got it, painful though. :)

  80. Avatar_profilePearaneese on Sat Sep 15, 2007 08:15 AM

[79] wikipedia him - that helped me alot

that had me twisted for awhile

    nice puzzle

  81. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Sat Sep 15, 2007 08:40 AM

[70] I'm sorry you had that reaction, but I'm not much of a role model :(

  82. FileSailboatIlta on Sat Sep 15, 2007 09:09 AM

Wait, the answer to the snake isn't "GI Joe"? :)

Cute puzzle, wish it was a bit more challenging.

  83. FilePearKendog on Sat Sep 15, 2007 09:54 AM

1 across got me for a while but the salt helped, no need to google of search for what the sign is. the word is in the fingers! hopefully not too much salt!

  84. Avatar_profileStrawberryGaryL on Sat Sep 15, 2007 10:46 AM

I just took a look at the puzzle, and solved it pretty quick. I thought it was fun. For whatever reason, I was able to get the hands one instantly; I just went back and read the blog and saw all the difficulty with it. It take me a couple tries to spell the boxer correctly.

  85. FilePlumdougw on Sat Sep 15, 2007 11:29 AM

My eight-year old son finished this by himself! (Except the few he hadn't heard of like the guy with the sword...)

  86. Avatar_profileStrawberryGrandpaDave on Sat Sep 15, 2007 11:43 AM

I kept thinking of the wrong boxer. He had so many rivals...

  87. FilePlumdougw on Sat Sep 15, 2007 12:16 PM

Leave it to Robrizob to make a fun and difficult puzzle

  88. Avatar_12-08Pancakesthreehojos on Sat Sep 15, 2007 02:09 PM

THAT one took me waaaay too long...
Not sure if it's me today or the puzzle was really that difficult!
    Ha!

  89. Avatar_profileAcehighfloydelity on Sat Sep 15, 2007 03:47 PM

Nice one! Simple and clever. The only one I had a problem with was the feuding families.

  90. 16046416814695847231e60Lemonsk8ingbeaver on Sat Sep 15, 2007 05:24 PM

[76] haha thanks man so much i was thinking of "Bad Boys" lol. im confused though this i my first hypercross to solve and do i not get tanga points for these things?

  91. Avatar_profileRocketchatterbox on Sun Sep 16, 2007 12:19 AM

Man, the first down (angelic one) really put me on the wrong track. I used the wrong word! It was another that started with the same letter, really helps with the crossing words there. Doh!

  92. FilePumpkinJohnQ118 on Thu Mar 26, 2009 05:25 PM

    completed.
hand sign gave me lasting trouble. think 'red' vs. 'blue' for the answer.

  93. FractalEggdduensing on Thu Aug 20, 2009 04:17 PM

I really REALLY hate the hand sign one.

For those still having problems, the hands spell out the word B.L,O.O.D.

Do a wikipedia search on "blood gangs" and find their enemy.

  94. Avatar_959_jpg100_200x200RaspberryRocketeer on Fri Mar 18, 2011 05:42 AM

Good gracious - spent way too long on that first one, had to get help from someone who had it solved. Sorry, but I don't live in LA, and just didn't "get" the picture.
