I'm stuck on the first down -- the one with the mouth.
Edit: Got it. But that has to be the worst Hypercross clue ever! If you don't know the answer, then you can't possibly know the first picture; if you recognize the first picture, then you don't need the rest of the clue.
The shirts clue is almost as bad. You can't even tell that they're shirts, much less what kind they are.
Great theme. Had to look up the long down one starting at the top (never heard of the answer), but the others all made sense right away (although I suspect there will be lots of regional variations.
Well at least one of the puzzles tonight was easy....but I definitely would not have known what the colored things in the box were without a little salt.
After looking at the first clue I was fully prepared to hate it with the "oh not, not ANOTHER guess who these people are puzzle" attitude - but then it turned into a really fun puzzle with the rubber duckies and beyond... Only had trouble with the shirts (which were not at all obvious as shirts... - thanks [4] Murdoctor.
Well done and fun agirlthats4corn!
keep 'em coming.
Thanks a lot. I thought that was some kind of game, but it escaped me. And I initially despaired with your clue, since I basically never watch reality shows. But your clue was good enough - and that show is actually the most successful show (in terms of advertising revenue) of all time, amazingly enough!
[38] greenie
You're welcome... I started to put the name of the reality show in the post, but thought that would have been too much salt. Even I (under my rock) had heard of this guy - even though I've never watched the show more than 10 minutes (total!).
Cute idea somewhat undone by some rather unfortunate picture choices. I was familiar with most of these, but I can see how it'd be tough for those who aren't.
I'd agree with that but, to me, the weakest part is the two down answers that start with t.
This seems to be a recent unfortunate trend; rebus clues that don't actually -work- but just get you in the ballpark. I guess it's one approach; it just seems sloppy. To me, that lowers the fun quotient.
I really like the nostalgic theme here.
I had no idea who any of the people were, but once I got the theme, the identities of the people weren't needed. Even the four-color thingie on the left was easily guessable. (I don't really live under a rock, but I don't pay much attention to pop culture.) So if the picture choices were misleading, I'll agree with Arnott, but if they were just less than helpful, I'll respectfully put forth a different opinion.
On the other hand, the shirts could easily have been replaced with a guy on a horse with a long stick or some folks in a pool with a ball. That they were plural was misleading.
For the top one across, the end is supposed to be Grey Duck!! (or so very very very passionately says my Minnesota girlfriend. We may not get the points for this one as she refuses to type in the correct answer...)!
I thought this puzzle was great....but after I solved it, I didn't get any points and it said "you got it, but we are not going to save your answer".....not the usual "freaking genius" response.....?
Some tough ones there, even knowing the theme. Cool puzzle, though.
Cute. I guess I'm finally figuring these things out...
any hint about what the box of colored garments is supposed to be?
[3] A particular type of shirts.
Ugh, I knew that!!! Thanks!
[3] I'm stuck on that one too...
[3] shirt with about three or four buttons and a collar.
I'm stuck on the first down -- the one with the mouth.

That long one down - is that David Byrne, Ally Sheedy, Marcia Cross and Liberace? Minus Linus and Lucy?
[8] Yeah, me too :<
Great theme. Had to look up the long down one starting at the top (never heard of the answer), but the others all made sense right away (although I suspect there will be lots of regional variations.
stuck on the rabbit/drink and the target/tape/shirt
Well, I got that long one down, but I don't know how it fits the theme.... From the wiki data on the drink....
Edit... well, from its description, it's not as fun as these others... but still, fun puzzle!!
I don't get the one with the T and the cat.
ok, got the target...now the rabbit/drink
Any salt for the T + (80s-hair blazer-wearing prep school girls) ball clue?
Are there tiny red flames coming out of their heads, or am I going blind from squinting too hard?
pay no attention to the cat - it's what's he's doing
got it
The 80s girls are Shannen Doherty, Kim Walker, Lisanne Falk and Winona Ryder
[15] A cricket or kangaroo could be put there for the same clue. What do these all do?
[8] & [10], the one with the mouth is in the format (noun) (verbs), with the mouth representing the verb...
I think it's funny that the noun is a product derived from the very same children's game that is the answer for this clue! It's a bit circular...
Thanks, [19]!
The one with the picture of Shannen et al is, imho, a little bit off if you're not Cockney.
Can someone help me ID the bald guy in the third across entry?
EDIT: Never mind -- I missed part of the clue. Got it now.
[21] Thanks!
So is the cat yawning or meowing?
[25] no ;)
[25] Neither: look at his eyes.
Thanks, that game doesn't seem to fit the theme.
Well at least one of the puzzles tonight was easy....but I definitely would not have known what the colored things in the box were without a little salt.
[13] Ahhhhh rainy days..........
I've gotten them all but the middle one across, who is that guy in the picture? (The only box that starts at the far left)
Never mind. Duh.
I'm with [8] - or at least I was, since they got it. Have no idea what that four colored thingey is.
[32] greenie
instead of that four colored thingey, they could have put a picture of an popular reality show judge...
i cant get the very bottom one
nevermind. i got evrything to fight but something aint right apparently
[35], what color is it?
[35] look very carefully at what kind of trucky-thing it is.
Not a bad puzzle. Very cute. We needed only the teeniest smidgen of salt.
leadfoot -

Fun puzzle - needed salt on the colored shirts too.
Good puzzle. Didn't need any salt.
Fun!!
hmm what's the picture in the T (pic) E (cat) clue supposed to be? I've got everything but that one >_<
For the top one across, the end is supposed to be Grey Duck!! (or so very very very passionately says my Minnesota girlfriend. We may not get the points for this one as she refuses to type in the correct answer...)!
Never heard of the long down entry in the middle, but figured enough to get it with a short google.
Been a LONG time since I played any of those!
I thought the girls and the ball was the toughest and I used to rule with that game at camp - I was tall for my height. :)
FUN!!!
