Got the theme, but having a wicked time with #5.

  2. FileCheeseburgerErich on Jan 02, 2011 07:18 PM

I can't make out the last picture in #5.

And if I understand the theme, I can't #16 to line up with #13.

[edit] Got it, I had the theme wrong. Still don't get the cluing for #5, but I got it.

  3. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jan 02, 2011 07:13 PM

[1] Ignore the faded picture if it is tripping you up. It's not part of the cluing, per se - that really threw me.

Still don't understand the last symbol on #7 and I had to use a crossword solver on several but I loved the cluing and had fun!

  4. ErwinPepperTangaAl on Jan 02, 2011 07:14 PM

Got all but the theme, apparently. Can't get #16.

Wow, a P&S for me. Got it at 28th! Great one, Ookpik!

  5. Avatar_profileGrapesmathfreak007 on Jan 02, 2011 07:20 PM

One of my favorite hypercrosses yet!

  6. FileCheeseburgerErich on Jan 02, 2011 07:21 PM

[3] Ahhh. If #5 were a crypto, that last picture would be the background image. Thanks!

  7. FileEggGamesX4 on Jan 02, 2011 07:22 PM

[1] being from LA helped a lot with #5..in fact that was the first one I got.

  8. Game-bsg-patchPeppershakkra on Jan 02, 2011 07:31 PM

    got them all ....but #11

    [11] thx!

  9. Diana___wwAppleWonderGeekWoman on Jan 02, 2011 07:45 PM

can't come up with the theme so i'm not getting a lot of them

ok, got the theme...now to finish the clues

  10. FileDuckiespoofme on Jan 02, 2011 07:24 PM

[8] #10 is not redwood, that threw me off for a while

  11. AvatarEggplantOokpik on Jan 02, 2011 07:24 PM

[8] what breed of dog is that?

  12. FileTomatoMurdoctor on Jan 02, 2011 07:25 PM

A bit precarious and ostentatious at times, but a revolutionary idea.

(No, that's not my real evaluation... I'm just being facetious.)

  13. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jan 02, 2011 07:26 PM

Had the theme right away, cruised through all the clues with no problems (or so I thought) and then spent FOREVER (finished 38th) figuring out that I had the wrong noun for the back half of clue #15. Still, I liked this puzzle a lot!

  14. FileEgggwk1967 on Jan 02, 2011 07:29 PM

Had to use Google autocomplete on #5, and a crossword solver for #6 (couldn't see the forest for the trees, I guess).

  15. Dsc00625Grapesmilncoln on Jan 02, 2011 07:29 PM

    salt on 1, 4, 5 please

  16. MarkerryanCarrotryanker on Jan 02, 2011 08:17 PM

    That was a toughie!

To be honest, I was looking for something a little "deeper" for the last word.

EDIT: I completely take back my comment about the last word. It's all good.

  17. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jan 02, 2011 07:30 PM

[13] Hah! I had the back half first. :)

[12] You are so clever... :)

  18. TangaCarrotFalala on Jan 02, 2011 07:36 PM

I have the theme but stuck on # 6 - hoping for p&s. Edit - it worked! Just sneaking in under 100.

  19. Cutie_jillianPeppersuzique on Jan 02, 2011 07:33 PM

    Hellaciously fun!

  20. Christopher_david_ryan_-_eyeGarlickc6201 on Jan 02, 2011 07:34 PM

88th. #5 was really hard to find, even when I knew what I was looking for.

  21. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jan 02, 2011 07:49 PM

[12] Aren't you the unabstemious one when it comes to examples!

[17] I did too, but that whole term isn't familiar to me so I didn't really consider it. Then the one I originally tried just jumped out at me & I thought I was done : (.

  22. Avatar_profileKiwiKayAnders on Jan 02, 2011 07:37 PM

Finally got it (92!), had to use a crossword solver on #5. Not sure how every part of #7 is relevant, though, but I made it work. Clever one!

  23. AvatarEggplantOokpik on Jan 02, 2011 07:38 PM

Anyone stuck on #5 should learn to make gumbo.

  24. BjDuckiedrlaura92 on Jan 02, 2011 07:39 PM

I am stuck on #4, 5 and 16 (yes, the theme). Might have others wrong as well, since I still do not have the theme.

  25. FilePepperclarencebyer on Jan 02, 2011 07:40 PM

Salt for #1 and #3? I actually got #5 early on, but the others are tripping me up! Would help if I got the theme. :(

  26. Ted_doggRaspberrydmlafrance on Jan 02, 2011 07:43 PM

    [20] I agree - I spent half and hour on #5 - for 99th solve.

  27. Dsc00625Grapesmilncoln on Jan 02, 2011 07:47 PM

[23] thanks, think i finally got #5 now

  28. MarkerryanCarrotryanker on Jan 02, 2011 07:47 PM

[25] For #1, what's the guy;s first name? And if you have antibodies against something, you're ____. The bird in #3 is not a dodo. You might have to Google that scientific name.

  29. MarkerryanCarrotryanker on Jan 02, 2011 07:48 PM

    [24] Don't over-think #16. It's easier than you think.

  30. AvatarEggplantOokpik on Jan 02, 2011 07:50 PM

Once you've got the theme, you should be able to find an appropriate list of words online to help with all the clues. Salt for the theme, sorta: the book Assassination Vacation, or Violet in The Incredibles.

  31. BjDuckiedrlaura92 on Jan 02, 2011 07:52 PM

    Now I only have #5.

  32. Avatar_profileApplefyrephoenix47 on Jan 02, 2011 07:55 PM

Thanks [30]! You also reminded me to pick up that book too. So double thanks then.

  33. RobberAppleteamgoat on Jan 02, 2011 07:58 PM

[21] I would characterize [12]'s comments as more eunoiatic than unabstemoius.

  34. BjDuckiedrlaura92 on Jan 02, 2011 07:59 PM

Finally have #5 and received 119th place. Thanks [23]. My second try searching your salt gave it to me (I finally had the theme then)

  35. Dsc00625Grapesmilncoln on Jan 02, 2011 08:04 PM

    just need #4, any salt?

nevermind, kept getting wildebeast in google

  36. Bullwinkle1Plummoosish on Jan 02, 2011 08:14 PM

5, 7, and 16 are bringing on a migraine. Please---can someone salt me up, Scotty?

  37. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jan 02, 2011 08:18 PM

[36] Sent a TG. A migraine simply will not do! :)

  38. FilePepperclarencebyer on Jan 02, 2011 08:19 PM

[36] If you know what the general item is called in #7, use a crossword puzzle solver, fill that word in at the end and use whatever other letter you might know from the cross over word. That should get you there without even knowing the other items in the pic.

  39. Img_0189Egggst on Jan 02, 2011 08:37 PM

    Dug it.

  40. Panda-flyGarlicpandapal on Jan 02, 2011 09:00 PM

    Tough, but fun!

  41. Avatar_profileOrangeSamel on Jan 02, 2011 09:40 PM

The theme has got me stumped but I'm pretty sure I've got everything else. Probably over thinking it.

Aha! Got it. [30] was a lovely bit of help.

  42. 000_0017Strawberrybabybert on Jan 02, 2011 10:09 PM

So lost. Can't get the theme, but did get #5 right away :)

  43. FileEggplantJohnS43 on Jan 02, 2011 10:17 PM

Fun clues and fun words; I really liked #7.

  44. Oregon_ducksKiwiChrystyA on Jan 02, 2011 10:32 PM

Would've loved this puzzle without #5. Thank you google autofill!

  45. 000_0017Strawberrybabybert on Jan 02, 2011 10:35 PM

Cannot get 7. Please help :)

  46. 000_0017Strawberrybabybert on Jan 02, 2011 10:46 PM

Nevermind, stuck on 4 and 11. 7 hit me and I was like, duh!

  47. Oregon_ducksKiwiChrystyA on Jan 02, 2011 10:55 PM

[46]for 4 & 11, try saying your answers out loud.

  48. WaddamsAppledroopy on Jan 02, 2011 11:01 PM

Took me a while to get the theme.
Then it was a D'oh moment.
Then the last 6 or so clues were as easy as A-B-C.

  49. Avatar_profileStrawberrymikekillerus on Jan 03, 2011 12:16 AM

Salt on 16 anyone? Really stuck

  50. Avatar_profileLemonitburns1 on Jan 03, 2011 12:25 AM

I give up. I thought I had them all , but now I'm stumped! How do you know which ones are incorrect? And when and where can I find the answers?

  51. AnguseyeaCarrotbamar on Jan 03, 2011 05:03 AM

Excellent puzzle! The final answer took a bit of work staring at all the words, but it finally dawned on me.

  52. Avatar_profileStrawberrysharonslp on Jan 03, 2011 08:28 AM

Great puzzle! This was my very first one. Got all but [7] during my middle of the night insomnia, and finally worked through it this morning. Yay....20 points. I like this site.

  53. 000_0017Strawberrybabybert on Jan 03, 2011 09:51 AM

Stuck on the theme. I think. All of the others seem to be right. Can someone TG me with the answers to check? Thanks :)

  54. 000_0017Strawberrybabybert on Jan 03, 2011 09:52 AM

[47] Thank you! I got them now!

  55. Daisy_bellis_perennisAcejargonista on Jan 03, 2011 12:12 PM

    221

  56. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jan 03, 2011 02:55 PM

[50] There's no way to know which ones you have wrong (although a red letter will tell you that you have a conflict on a crossing). The only way to get the answer is to send a Tangagram to someone asking for help. You can send me your list of words if you'd like and I'll help you get it done.

  57. FilePotatoDandelion_Wine on Jan 03, 2011 05:29 PM

think I got 'em all, but not correct. :(

  58. FilePotatoDandelion_Wine on Jan 03, 2011 06:40 PM

Had #12 wrong. I ignored the band in the middle there and focused on the red lines dividing nations. I put in 'boundaries' which fit in the space and the theme! Many thanks to Ookpik for setting me straight!!

  59. Avatar_profilePlumhodoubleg on Jan 03, 2011 09:47 PM

i thin i got most of them but i am stuck on 5 and 10 but i think 4 doesnt line up with my answer for for, i would appreciate a message

  60. 2010-12-31_tess_smileGrapessnowangel425 on Jan 04, 2011 01:28 AM

I really need help with #5. I have all the others, Can someone please send me a TG?

  61. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jan 04, 2011 07:14 AM

[58] Wow! That sucks that it even works in the crossings...
[59] Send me a message with what you have and I'll let you know what's wrong and give you some clues.
[60] Google "Cajun sausage" - you should get several hits, at least one of which is the wikipedia page for this item, which you should be able to recognize if you sound out the clue. Send me a TG if you are still stumped.

  62. N500259600_3602GrapesUnknownfluke on Jan 04, 2011 07:17 AM

Thought I got them all and no go. So frustrated cause I don't know when I went wrong.

  63. Strat_150x150Rocketjcqueen on Jan 04, 2011 09:02 AM

Thanks to [23], I finally got #5. Beware silent letters! I had the right word from the cluing, but since I had no idea what the word meant, my spelling was all off.

  64. Avatar_profileGrapestexasmarinemom on Feb 16, 2011 07:27 PM

OK, I got the theme but I'm still stuck on #7. . . I guess I could put all the "right" letters into a word finder. . . I've sounded out everything I think could work. . . I'm frustrated! Any help? Puh-lease!!!!
