[1] I filled in pieces I knew and noticed a certain commonality to what was missing in each one and then filled in clues to get those letters for crossing clues until I got the theme. If that makes sense. Kind of a cool way to uncover the theme. You have to make some assumptions and try it out but I kind of like doing that kind of detective work more than staring at the title and hoping it comes to me.
Unfortunately, I'm stuck on #10 and two crossword solvers won't give it to me. edit: p&s strikes again! :)
[5] Just in case you still don't have #10, which I find difficult to believe given your history...
The four letters you're missing are often prefixed with a rhyming word to make a more derogatory term for the item. (...or perhaps for the people that watch it.)
Went in the other room, sat down, got it right off the top of my head. 1st time that's ever happened to me. I had lyrics up, overworking it.
Cool puzzle.

[31] That's not a 'nib' - what part of the pencil is that?
[29] I used one of those symbols in a puzzle once and Arnott expressed concern about people not recognizing them. I found that remarkable. But tonight I realize that he's right. Not everyone has a passing familiarity with musical notations. Who'd have known?! :)
nice puzzle. #11 had me stumped for a long time since it seemed to me that the second picture was subtracting the only word I had from the first picture. Eventually figured out the extra word I was missing after solving the rest of the puzzle.
LOL. I first thought the title referred to Smokey the Bear and started answering firetruck, fire door and backfire, but got suspicious of my theme when hotpants didn't fit at all.
Those musical symbols all have something in common as far as meaning. In all the clues, the picture gives you a word to use with the common word. The picture does *NOT* represent the word that goes in the blanks. I had amazing number of false starts before the Ah Ha came.
Not seeing the theme here.
[1] think of a song.
It took me most of the clues to get the theme- and then I had to redo every one of them.
Good one! Nice mixture of plurals to keep us thinking!
6th! I didn't get the theme until #9, but then it was pretty easy (except for #5, I don't know much about those kinds of symbols).

Very nicely done, sammy!
Although I wasn't first, I finished near the top.
need a hint to get started
[5] It's a slang term...
86th.
[7] I thought I gave a hint.
[5] I think we say "the ..." but others cal it "the ..."
I'm guessing but it fits
edit [14] I totally agree and haven't a clue.
Also stuck on #10. Was doing well and thought I was gonna finish quickly, but that one has me stumped. Salt?
NM: post and solve

[10] yeah, i know the song, but i don't see how these clues go with the song...
Thank you [8]. Got number 100 because I was stuck on it for so long, but I'm not complaining.
Also stuck on #10. [8] which is the slang term: the original or the answer?
Nevermind, finally got it! I feel like a boob!
Great puzzle except I was stuck on number #5 also.
Number 10 had me stumped for a while too. It's an old term for what's pictured. Let's just say it's not an LCD or a plasma.

LOL [16] !
Nice challenge to figure out the theme. Fun.
For 10, don't think British. Think hot summer days.
The theme had me spinning around for a moment, but once I got it, it was easy as cheese. I courted it a little slow, though, didn't make the top 100.
Thanks [16], #10 was driving me crazy.

Got all but 5, salt please.
Never Mind, I got it now.
[25] TG sent
I'll take that salt for 5. Got all but that.
P&S for 203
For anyone else still struggling with #5, those are notations used in music.
I cannot figure out the theme... salt?
I am having trouble with 8
#226
It was so simple I looked right past it! Struggled with it last night. After some rest I finished it with no additional stress.
Very nicely clued, Sammy!
Excellent puzzle! #5 made me work for my 20 points that's for sure!!

[30] I'll send you a TG.
Good puzzle, but wasn't happy with #10, had to read the comments. A British term for a TV fits the hint, the spacing and the theme.

Good puzzle. Had no clue what the title meant until I got to clue 13.
LOL, just recalled the CSI episode with #14...
[34] Have you still not learned? NEVER DOUBT ME!!!
(except when I'm wrong)
LOL. I first thought the title referred to Smokey the Bear and started answering firetruck, fire door and backfire, but got suspicious of my theme when hotpants didn't fit at all.
Nice!
can the puzzle be printed out so I can work on a hard copy of it ?
[42] Not really
Finally got it. [10] hung me up for quite awhile. It was a poor clue. It would have been better showing the inside of the TV.
Typed in each image.....then had my aha moment when looking at the terms collectively.
phweew
I'm still stuck trying to figure out what is probably super obvious. Salt anyone?
