Is it just me, or was this posted an hour early?

  2. Img_0189Egggst on Oct 01, 2007 06:23 PM

    Not just you.
Pretty good. A few very nice clues and a few weaker ones.

  3. Avatar_profileWatermelonCaptainSemantic on Oct 01, 2007 06:24 PM

Oh, does it normally go up at 10 Eastern time? No wonder there's a bunch of comments on it when I get to work in the morning...

  4. Avatar_profileKiwiSilverSabre25 on Oct 01, 2007 07:01 PM

pretty good puzzle if I can do most of it without the help of my husband, who is much more knowledgable in this area than I am!

  5. ApparatusGrapesApparatus on Oct 01, 2007 07:07 PM

Some gnarly rebus clues and some lame ones. Enough good to outweigh the bad though.

  6. FileGarlicHope2002 on Oct 01, 2007 07:14 PM

I liked it. It was missing my favorite.....

  7. FileBananabuggy on Oct 01, 2007 07:17 PM

If I could get the roman rulers or the ants, I'd have the other one. Don't have much interaction with this subject.

  8. AvatarApplebagherra on Oct 01, 2007 07:21 PM

    BOOO

Geeks rebel, overthrow the Jocks, MAIM THEM, KILL THEM RA RA RA!

  9. Club_liverpoolAppleJLRobert on Oct 01, 2007 07:22 PM

    Decent puzzle.

I'm ready for it. But not all of it, just some.

  10. FileEggGamesX4 on Oct 01, 2007 07:25 PM

    not bad

  11. AvatarApplebagherra on Oct 01, 2007 07:29 PM

[7] remove your head from your butt soldier!

I'm stuck on the rulers myself

  12. AvatarApplebagherra on Oct 01, 2007 07:31 PM

bleh, roman rulers is a bad clue

I had to pillage and plunder my answer.

  13. FileBananabuggy on Oct 01, 2007 07:33 PM

[11] Got it, but wow that was tenuous. As for the rulers, how many of them are there?

  14. FileBananaethnosax on Oct 01, 2007 07:35 PM

For the Roman rulers--think of that phrase as two separate things. The answer has to do with "Roman" and THEN "rulers," rather than "Roman rulers," if you know what I mean. Even then, I don't think it's easy to figure out without looking at a relevant list and finding one that fits the spaces and crossing letter.

This is a theme I couldn't care less about, but it wasn't a bad puzzle. Easy enough with one wiki search. Does anyone else think it's only a matter of time before we get a hypercross where every clue is just a picture of that mermaid toy? :)

  15. FileDuckiedavey3 on Oct 01, 2007 07:34 PM

[12] - bad clue? That was my favorite one!

  16. Thumb_bruceleeAppler0xjo0 on Oct 01, 2007 07:35 PM

    Couldn't care less...

  17. FileRadishcthulhu on Oct 01, 2007 07:40 PM

Nice hypercross. Very appropriate for tonight of course.

  18. Club_liverpoolAppleJLRobert on Oct 01, 2007 07:42 PM

[12] That was a great clue. Note the quantity...

  19. Lolcatsdotcom73aak810zfilrz3dGrapesSeleneCorvinus on Oct 01, 2007 08:00 PM

I liked this puzzle. Some of them had me stumped but my husband was able to help with those that I could not get.

  20. FilePancakesbrupop on Oct 01, 2007 09:33 PM

    Yes, I'm ready.
Nicely done... but you forgot the best of the bunch. I mean that corn should not be left in it's husks, it needs to be put in a proper container. Any hiker would have the clue for them on their back. Go P--k!!

  21. FileTomatobcgrote on Oct 01, 2007 09:32 PM

[20] I concur!!! Odds to win it all went from 100-1 to 5-1!!

Still not getting the Roman Rulers.... in my family line that would be the Minn. for that clue...

  22. FileKiwiSwanny on Oct 01, 2007 10:21 PM

hee hee hee...top one across was groaner when i finally got it

  23. FileGarlick1w1 on Oct 02, 2007 12:56 AM

I have no idea what the theme is here. Am I missing something obvious or is this another US biased puzzle?

  24. Avatar_profileOrangemerebystander on Oct 02, 2007 04:36 AM

Loved it! (though I could have done without the Roman Rulers clue...)

  25. Avatar_profileWatermelonbree on Oct 02, 2007 05:03 AM

[20] I agree with you, left off my favorite.

[23] Yes it is All American puzzle.

  26. FileAppleLegomancer on Oct 02, 2007 05:45 AM

I'm a huge fan of the Cleveland Abstracts.

  27. Avatar_profileStrawberryGaryL on Oct 02, 2007 06:32 AM

I solved it, but I don't get the Roman Rulers ones. I guess I see the "rulers" part, but I don't know exactly how you would get Roman, without any mention of "six"

  28. FileTomatoat8ax on Oct 02, 2007 06:33 AM

Not slamming dsmeyer in particular, but this one magnifies a flaw with the Hypercross concept -- not enough crossers. In this case, so many crossers at the unhelpful S's that we might as well had a freestanding list of clues and blanks.

  29. FilePearpandadme on Oct 02, 2007 06:38 AM

I'm pretty sure I have them all right but not taking my answers. I might have Roman rulers wrong but only one seems to fit.

  30. Avatar_profileOrangescarmonster on Oct 02, 2007 08:57 AM

[27]....how many roman rulers are pictured in the clue?

  31. FileTomatoMurdoctor on Oct 02, 2007 08:55 AM

For the roman rulers, it's a two-part clue. The second part is a synonym for "rulers". The first part is how many there are of them... and write it as if they were Roman.

  32. Avatar_profilePeachCUTHALI0N on Oct 02, 2007 09:21 AM

Wow, there seems to be a lot of people here who like the "guys who take the ears of corn out of their husks and put them into some tupperware." I feel at home!

Oh, and the "Lions, Tigers and ______. Oh my!" are going down!!

  33. 369525946_lPeachgoober on Oct 02, 2007 09:25 AM

After I got the Roman Rulers one by figuring out which fit... I slapped my forehead.

  34. Head_shotBananajppe5 on Oct 02, 2007 03:45 PM

yeah, the Roman Rules didn't work as well. Neros didn't work.

  35. FilePepperdajagr on Oct 02, 2007 04:20 PM

Is it just me, or did "remember the rule" go the wrong way? Isn't it lefty-loosey?

  36. FilePearpandadme on Oct 02, 2007 04:28 PM

I'm most if not all of you have solved this puzzle. With all the salt and I still don't get Roman rulers. could some just give us the answer? I have all the rest.

Could tell me if I'm close with using mennisota.

  37. Avatar_profilePeachCUTHALI0N on Oct 02, 2007 04:50 PM

[36] You're as close as you could possibly be.

  38. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Oct 02, 2007 06:01 PM

    [35] dajagr
Yes, it is lefty-loosy the diagram is showing "righty" (starting at the 12 O'clock position)

  39. FilePearpandadme on Oct 03, 2007 02:36 PM

Turned out I had one of the other ones wrong, I finally got it and the problem on wasn't the roman rulers. :-(. I got my 2 points. :-)

  40. Avatar_profilePearfreelancelot on Oct 06, 2007 02:24 PM

Ironic: The Tennessee one works for the "ant" space, and the Houton works for the "wrench" space. Hence both were throwing a monkey wrench in the puzzle for me! Once I shuffled them around I got it to work!

  41. FileSailboatrashawnsgrandma on Jun 01, 2010 05:02 AM

Not my favorite subject - but some imaginative cluing! Thanx dsmeyer :)
