Woo Hoo 18th best ever fun puzzle once I figured out what was missing
Mad props to the maker
I loved the connection
8 on crypto
8 on hyper
2 on OWW
My Best night yet!!!!!!
Aarg! Here I am, answering questions, tabbing along, and then the last tab throws me off of the page, and when I go back I have to start all over again. I hate it when that happens! (Fun puzzle, though!)
Got all but 9 and 13.
43rd, fun puzzles tonight!
hmm.....I filled them all in....not taking....checked spelling twice. rats!
doh...#7 has two different spelling depending on use.....use the I not the E
If I may... Boo yah!
67th on the Crypto, 37th on the OWW and 61 here. Not necessarily in that order. :-)
[6] I had the cigarettes spelled wrong for quite some time. Also, clue #7 could be confusing.
[3] I feel your pain.
That cigarette clue was really weak.
My first time under 100!
salt for #6? I got nothing.
Lucky #101. Had to run an errand at 9 PM
I'm having trouble with my intersection of 6 and 9. If 6 ends in i (and I think it does--salt for [11], then I can't make my #9 fit. Help!
[13] my 9 ends in a : \
Now if I could have only spelled ketchup or mayo correctly... lost 10 min of my life.
Excellent triple play!
[14] when I use "a" it turns red...
AH HA! I thought red meant it was wrong...but it only means the two don't match. gertrudethemutilator, have you solved it yet? If not, would be glad to help you out--you helped me.
There are two very fitting answers for #23 down that both work with #6 across (see [27])
(However, neither answer gives me a solution to the puzzle, so there must be another ambiguous answer I overlooked. This is why I don't usually do the Hypercross ... it never fails that one of my answers is incorrect)
Whew! the OWW helped me here.
And only 1 misspelling for me.
[17] nope, decided to take a break, thought it may come to me, but it hasn't.
Edit: Thanks for the TG re #6. I was thinking so much bigger than that!
Need help with #23.
need help with #19
[22] Did you watch the pope on Christmas eve?
[20] tg sent
[22] 19 can be an item of clothing by itself. [21] what are the two dudes doing?
[25] Thanks. I kept thinking it had something to do with the president.
[26] So, you thought the answer was "impedement" too?
Impedement: A hindrance or obstruction in doing something.
(That looks like what's going on in #23)
Very cute!
I just can't get myself up to the task of doing a 25 clue HC ... inevitably there will one typo or something silly that makes it just unfun. Too much work with too little of payoff ...
Which leads me to re-suggest something(s) I've said before ... I would love to see HCs use a formula for points rather than a hard-line 20 points. Use 20 as a base, but let it vary anywhere from 15 to 35 or so. The formula could use number of clues, number of spaces, etc.
... and I'd also love to see a hint in the "not correct" message you get when you submit a puzzle with an error in it. If you've got only one or two errors in the puzzle, at least tell me how close I am ... the frustrating thing is sometimes trying all sorts of permutations ... that exercise robs fun.
If some form of these two suggestions were implemented, I'd have dug right into this puzzle. That's not a knock on this puzzle or the author, but my opinion. Anyway ... thanks for the puzzle. I'm glad others have enjoyed it.
I enjoyed this one. But I bet the "hypercrosses should always be real words" people are just fit to be tied to have two in a row fail so miserably... :)
13 and 17- No clue. Any salt for them please?
Tough one here too. Although most of the answers were not real words, This wasn't as bad as that periodic table crap the other night.
Great puzzle!
As to salt,
#23 the former prez could be just anyone;
#19 the red garment word usually has an "s" at the end - not here, though;
#17 the soldiers are all together at their.....
#13 was the hardest for me, but I figured it out once I had the other letters around it. Foghorn Leghorn says, "a...but...a...but...a...but i i i said said said said so so so so!"
[30],[32] yeah - not a fan of the hypercrosses where the entries aren't words. That periodic table was brutal
[31] those two gave me trouble as well. I ended up going to a crossword solver and putting in the letters I had. #13 - technically speaking, it's the point where two structures meet. #17 - hmmm. They got some tents pitched.
13 and 9 gave me the most trouble. For 13 I finally put some of the words from the picture in google. Thankfully the right answer showed up in a link because I'd have never thought of it in a million years.
Loved this puzzle AND especially enjoyed the elements one last night.
Oh, so that's NOT Dubya in #23? That had me extremely confused.
[Edit: or, more importantly, as [33] notes, if it is, it doesn't matter.]
no one else seems to be having trouble with #14 and it's the only one I am having trouble with. figures! :-)
You solved this puzzle in 0 seconds and were the 223rd Tanga member to solve it Got it!!
tough one
I give up - I hate it when I think they are all right but won't take and there is no help unless you send someone a TG - I don't care about points I would just like to be able to view the answers the next day to see where I went wrong - can do this with the other puzles but one these.
i can help you, just figured it out
Renfurdson, you've still got it! Excellent set of puzzles!
It'd be great to see more of your work.
ugh i can't get 21 or 17
Thanks for all the great feedback everyone.
(29) Neat ideas.
And thanks to all of our puzzle authors!
aw
[29] I agree with you that the HC can be frustrating. I'm not so sure that the varying points system you suggested could be implemented in a simple fashion (but it's a neat idea). I do think that if you are only one answer off (or possibly two) then it should tell you which number is incorrect (and this shouldn't be too tough to program/implement). It is SO frustrating when you have 20+ answers you believe to be correct and some unknown one of them is wrong.
