is #6 misspelled?
edit: there is apparently more than one acceptable spelling. One of them is correct.
#6 only has 12 letters, according to Google....
How are there solvers? I've tried 6 different possible spellings, including THE RIGHT ONE, and nothing...
23rd...got stuck on 5, but I had 53rd and 6th on the others...
#6 is correctly spelled. The shorter word (pronounced the same) doesn't refer to the same thing.
[2] Try wikipedia.
[4] So please tell, just HOW did you spell #6? It is unsolvable to those of us who spell correctly!
Tricky spelling on some of these. And some of them are not words, but phrases. I'm not sure I've ever heard of #10 before.
[7] #6 is spelled like the country, or principality rather. I got tripped up on it too, but it was #19 that had the spelling mistake I had to hunt for.
Geeezzzz spelling problems also? It took 5 minutes for the pictures to load for me!
Whoo, 37.
Spelling on these was fine here... google was dead on for all of them from what I could see. #6 is spelled fine as well, no lie at all...
So when DID this country change the spelling? I have NEVER EVER seen it spelled in this manner! And I've studied history and geography for DECADES!
Wow, spelling got me on this one! So many confusing words!
For #6, there are different places in the same relative part of the word that have that same pronunciation with different spellings. There are even two castles with that name, each with one of those spellings. For those still struggling, add an E as the third letter.
[14] I don't remember how I learned it, but really, the English spelling of countries is never really right anyways, if the country does not use English. Japan calls itself Nippon or Nihon, Ireland calls itself Eire, and so on.
Spelling gave me fits too, but I think that the problems were on me, and not on the puzzle creator. I enjoyed the clues a lot - especially #6 - but I think that I need a list of spelling words to memorize every week. A great puzzle - I got my wife to laugh just telling her the title and then reading her the answers.
this is infuriating! I have tried various different spellings....all pass the spell checker....and still not taking
#20 actually had me LOLing. Awesome.
Not a clu on #6, not even close enough to worry about spelling!
Anybody willing to check a list? I thought I had the correct words and correct spelling, but it is not taking
can I TG someone my answers? spelling.... double checked all.
[22] [23] If you wanna TG me, I'll check 'em.
[23] Same here...I'm at wit's end. someone please help!
Thank you .....my problem was with #5.....needed to change the E to another A
#5 caused me some trouble too. Make sure you're not off by 10 years.
Salt on #20 - I see who it is but stuck the 2nd part of the 'word' ???
[22], [23], [25] I got 'em
Wow, that was the most frustrating set of spelling I've ever had to deal with on a hyper. Google was NOT my friend, easily coming up with multiple matches for my misspelled #5. If you Google #5 and the first link is NOT a definition entry, you need to keep trying.
Personally, I'm not going to finish it. I find it disgusting.
i am a great speller and had to google for alternate spellings, still don't have them all right...too much work for a puzzle that had good clues.
Death by mushroom spelling. Nice puzzle. So sad I knew all these... wish i could spell :)
I finally got them all right [31], but I am a good speller as well, and had to find alternate answers.
Didn't care for this one.
[27] You need the full name. It's another one that is a more of a phrase than a word. It's actually his nickname and his last name.
Oh, c'mon guys. The only one that had dubious spelling was #5. You just have to make sure you use the principality, not the castle, and the way Wikipedia spells it. If you get different spellings on the other ones, I think it's because you aren't actually looking at the links to see if they're reputable.
I had all the answers but got a sorry. I checked rechecked rerechecked and rerererechecked all of the words for spelling. All are correct. Obviously something is wrong but I really don't care any more. This was so frustrating and annoying I just said the hell with it and deleted it.
Edit: Go figger.... As I was closing the windows I found it open in another window (where I was working on it also) I clicked the submit button and it said I'm a freakin frustrated idiot. It took my answers and I never changed anything?
Not taking my answers, and I'm pretty sure i've spelled everything correctly. Anyone willing to check?
Also don't get what #20 is refering to...? I assume it's just the guys name, but is that also a special phrase for something? If so, I've never heard of it.
I'm glad these are words that make your nephew snicker. I'm not snickering right now. Spelling, took 5 minutes to load the pictures and I blanked out the puzzle twice. Oh, do I have some words I'm saying right now!
I give up
I can take a look at answer lists for anyone who is still having problems. I might not be super fast on the return message, but I will try.
bcgrote - there's another spelling for it. Check the cia.gov world fact book.
The only two that might be wrong for me are 14 and 16. I have good answers, but not accepting my answers. All the others I'm 99% sure are correct. I wish there was an answer sheet for at least the ones you got right...
Peeple nede two liten upp an figgure owt howe too spele propperly. Nevver sawed mer complinning.
Thanks [25], that was my problem, too. This was tough!
For clue #17 I suspect "titmouse" would generate more snickers.
Just want to register my view: this is a fun and not too difficult puzzle, on a fun theme, and, so far as I can tell, all the spellings are absolutely correct.
[46] But how would you clue it?
Can I TG my answers to someone who has them right. Thanks.
Edit: Got it. #8 has 2 spellings and that got me.
Ah...I had #19 (of all things) wrong.
#8 and #15 are also ones to be very careful on with the spelling
Took for me on first try of all the spellings.
[49] If noone has contacted you, you can TG me.
[52] - Thanks for the offer, got it.
stuck on #20
yay finally solved :) thanks @ Bohosoul. cia.gov world fact helped bunch :)
[47] I agree. Fun theme and I didn't have any spelling trouble.
Feel free to TG if you want to check your answers.
Just popping in to say how much I enjoyed this hypercross! I loved the theme and thought the cluing was brilliant. I did have to double check spelling on a couple words, but google quickly set me right.
[54] It's simply the guy's name. If you don't know who he is, simply google the name and number on the jersey.
Forget the spelling issue on #6...how the hell were we supposed to figure out that they wanted the name of the actor and an action as opposed to a picture of a tongue and "ferris"?
That was as dumb as it gets!
... and this is the last of the 2010 (submitted) Hypers and, incidentally, the last of the 1000 series of hypers.
Well, I got here late and solved the puzzle without any salt and only a couple of spelling mishaps....and I thought it was a cute puzzle. I didn't have to deal with Harry Potter or binary. Nice job!
Painful...
Can anyone help guide me on 5 and 6? I have read all the comments but I have no clue on what the words are..
[63] #5 refers to a person who is of a certain age. #6 is a country in Europe.
W H E W !!! THAT TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR!
The only one I can't figure out is #14. I know who she is and what the other picture is, but I'm lost................
EDIT: never mind It was so much easier than I made it!
Totally stumped on 5 and 6
Not sure what the little girl is supposed to represent in 5 and even with the geographic suggestions for 6, I'm not making the leap...may be getting the wrong terms from the pictures.
Hrmm....thinking
EDIT:
Ok, I have the words, but must have a typo now somewhere. Going through one by one but at first glance they all seem right
Would someone just TG me #20? I'm not going to figure it out, I'm pretty sure.
I loved the puzzle. I didn't get it the first time so I assumed it was #6 tripping me up (because of all the comments) but I had misspelled #8...go figure.
Thank you [50] that was what was my error.
Thanks [34] - I thought the phone had something to do with it so I was adding 'al' (for call) after his first name... then couldn't get the rest.
P/S.
Hah! Spelling!
Oh, and some of the words make old timers snicker too :)
Got this one, but sorry didn't care for theme.
hope the nephew thing is a joke if he's old enough to get the 'naughty' gist he shouldn't be young enough to elicit snickers in other words he's either older and immature or too young to be knowing to snicker
I didn't find any of them all that amusing
I went through, got them all (eventually), but no joy. I checked all spelling, extra spaces at the end of words, but still nothing. So I cleared the whole thing, reentered everything from scratch, and it took. Weird. Yes, it's juvenile, but brings a smile. For those who don't think nephews know about such things, I'm wondering if you have nephews.
I solved it but the spelling issues SUCK or SUK or SUQ you get the point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
Finally! I got completely stuck on trying to get something for #6 based on the body part instead of the action. Before that, it was [59] that helped me with the ending of the word since I was heading the wrong direction there too.
Personally I enjoyed the theme. Kids *do* snicker at words like these (also agree with [71] by the way), and yes, kids learn "naughty" words in a variety of ways. Maybe they hear them from older siblings or cousins, or from friends at school who have older siblings. It's not disgusting, it's part of growing up and completely normal.
