Seeing as this HC is somewhat atypical, I made clue #1 contain a general guideline as well as an example (the answer to #1 is SIXTIES). Hopefully this will curb the desire for early salt and/or overly salty comments.

I would also like to give a special thanks to LakeLivin who helped me a great deal with the HC portion of this triptych. He helped me construct better clues and hopefully made the mod's job a bit easier (speaking of which, thank you Arnott for all of your help too!)

  12. Christopher_david_ryan_-_eyeGarlickc6201 on Jul 19, 2011 07:15 PM

    Awesome puzzle! Got 14th.

Haven't figured out the other two puzzles tonight yet.

  13. FileTomatoat8ax on Jul 19, 2011 07:14 PM

    My brain hurts.

  14. New_scout_logoCheeseburgerscoutmom on Jul 19, 2011 07:16 PM

[6] When you see what is the same in each one, count it out loud. That's what it took for me.

  15. Julia20Sailboatjila58 on Jul 19, 2011 07:42 PM

Yay, I finally got #6! It wasn't really any tougher than the others, quite similar in fact but I think I just didn't recognize what I had was a word as quickly. Also the pattern was a little more difficult to spot, but that didn't hold me up very long.

  16. DadRaspberryjayvil on Jul 19, 2011 07:16 PM

    This was AWESOME!!

  17. Nick_dress_blues_2Pancakesbitwisenot on Jul 19, 2011 07:17 PM

Whoa, this was amazing. Some of them were a bit tricky. Thanks for making the puzzles tonight, Adam!

  18. PhotoRocketdenisepinto on Jul 19, 2011 07:17 PM

    Wow, what a masterpiece.

    Amazing.

  19. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jul 19, 2011 07:17 PM

Oh, my goodness! That was truly, truly, truly spectacular! Thanks, AdamMcD... and LakeLivin... and Arnott.

I was having so much fun working these out that I didn't care if all the points would be gone when I got around to the OWW.

  20. Donimo_pirate_beatlesTomatoDonimo on Jul 19, 2011 07:17 PM

One of my favorite HCs ever!

  21. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jul 19, 2011 07:18 PM

[6] It was hard for me to see what needed to be seen there since the columns weren't all lined up straight.

  22. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Jul 19, 2011 07:19 PM

Great job, Adam! Loved this one!!!

  25. ErwinPepperTangaAl on Jul 19, 2011 07:30 PM

Really liking this one, too. Still trying to get 11, and 6.

NM on 6 - just saw why my guess is right.

EDIT: Got them both! Really slowed down on this one after getting top 20 on the other two.

    Great set of puzzles, Adam!

  26. FileCheeseburgerErich on Jul 19, 2011 07:24 PM

Very nice set of puzzles, AdamMcD!
This one was a real brain stretcher, but well clued.

Ten stars FUN ! Thank you AdamMcD.

  28. Water_dropEggplantMrsH2Os on Jul 19, 2011 07:25 PM

  29. Images_1_Sailboathurricanechelsea on Jul 19, 2011 07:27 PM

I'm glad I stuck with it, this was great.

  30. ImageRocketjkoudys on Jul 19, 2011 07:28 PM

This is the best hypercross I've ever done. Loved it.

  31. PhotoRocketdenisepinto on Jul 19, 2011 07:29 PM

    Congrats on the kiwi, [30].

  32. FileTomatobcgrote on Jul 19, 2011 07:29 PM

  33. Peppermint_butlerRocketthe_taftster on Jul 19, 2011 07:30 PM

One of the best hypers ever! Awesome work AdamMcD!

  34. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 19, 2011 09:35 PM

[28] This puzzle had 15 clues. I bet I saw at least 35 good clues from Adam before he chose these, so don't be surprised to see more somewhere down the road lol!

  35. FileGarlicsorter on Jul 19, 2011 07:31 PM

I have no idea what 10 is.

  36. Avatar_profileCarrotmuffinhead80 on Jul 19, 2011 07:31 PM

OMG that was an amazing construction. AdamMcD, thank you!!

  37. Cutie_jillianPeppersuzique on Jul 19, 2011 07:32 PM

  38. FileGarlicdharmaRN on Jul 19, 2011 07:33 PM

Got all but 9 & 13..... any little sprinkles, please???

  39. FilePumpkinrvitale68 on Jul 19, 2011 07:33 PM

    stuck on 13

  40. FileGarlicsorter on Jul 19, 2011 07:37 PM

{38} and {39} It's in position. Help with 10 needed.

  41. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 19, 2011 07:37 PM

For #13 you may have to expand your focus beyond just one word.

  42. Tanga_shadow_goat_2-fpAceshiella on Jul 19, 2011 07:38 PM

so far i only have 7 and 15

  43. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 19, 2011 07:38 PM

For #10 Have you identified what each of the symbols are?

  44. Rf_avatarTomatoRandiman on Jul 19, 2011 07:39 PM

I agree with many of the folks here - difficult, but awesome!!

  45. MonkeytypePepperJimboTab13 on Jul 19, 2011 07:43 PM

One of my favorite Hypercrosses ever.

  46. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 19, 2011 07:45 PM

For #9: There's a sesame street character who wears a cape that might be able to help with this clue.

    EDIT: oops I meant for #9 !

  47. FileGarlicdharmaRN on Jul 19, 2011 07:44 PM

I have them all, checked spelling... still no go. WIll someone whose solved it check my answers, please?

  48. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 19, 2011 07:45 PM

    [47] you can TG me.

  49. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 19, 2011 07:48 PM

Note: I'm sure Adam would be much more helpful than me but he couldn't be here tonight.

  50. FileGarlicdharmaRN on Jul 19, 2011 07:48 PM

GOT IT!!! Had ONE wrongly spelled. Thanks for thkindness, LakeLivin [47].

  51. FileGarlicsorter on Jul 19, 2011 07:58 PM

    #10 no - just the middle one...but I still don't get it

Finally got it! Took half an hour to guess it.

  52. Tanga_shadow_goat_2-fpAceshiella on Jul 19, 2011 07:52 PM

    on a roll now

  53. FilePotatojunderscore on Jul 19, 2011 07:53 PM

I got more than half. I may not get anymore. My brain really liked this kind of puzzle. So, thanks for that.

  54. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 19, 2011 07:53 PM

[51] you're all over it, lol!

  55. MarkerryanCarrotryanker on Jul 19, 2011 07:56 PM

This was definitely five Fun stars!

I've played over 500 games of Zendo and have even helped to run Zendo tournaments. Even so, this puzzle was a challenge. It required non-trivial amounts of both Zendo AND Tanga skills.

  56. FileCarrotmmene on Jul 19, 2011 08:09 PM

I could use some salt for #6 and #11. For #11 I even can see the pattern but i can't make a word out of it.

Edit; I got #6, just need #11 now

  57. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 19, 2011 08:12 PM

[56] For #11 it may be a 'spelling vs. pronunciation' thing.

  58. FileCarrotmmene on Jul 19, 2011 08:16 PM

[57] - thanks that helped. Only got 116th though :-(

  59. 8grg3zbpu691mpv38q2nRaspberryjebediehard on Jul 19, 2011 08:18 PM

Well done Adam! Very creative and lots of fun.

  60. BjDuckiedrlaura92 on Jul 19, 2011 08:26 PM

Once I got started, I found these to be fairly easy. Now back to the OWW that I had given up on.

  61. Avatar_profileApplejenannc0928 on Jul 19, 2011 08:28 PM

    SO CLEVER! Loved this.

  62. Tanga_shadow_goat_2-fpAceshiella on Jul 19, 2011 08:32 PM

    more!!!!

  63. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jul 19, 2011 08:34 PM

This may very well be the first time that I've seen both the fun and difficulty meters nearly pegged (4 stars each right now). Usually, you can count on the difficult puzzles getting low fun ratings... (kind of like the OWW tonight, lol)

  64. Avatar_profileStrawberryj0shy81 on Jul 19, 2011 08:41 PM

Great puzzle but evidently difficult... an hour and forty minutes in and I'm 129th!

  65. Mangos-big-750570Sailboatkgnanamu on Jul 19, 2011 09:25 PM

I got them all (at least I thought so) and they fit but not accepting. Can someone please check my answers.

Thanks to [66], I have it right (matter of US English vs British English). And yes, a great puzzle!

  66. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 19, 2011 08:58 PM

[65] I'll take a look if you want to TG me.

  67. FileEggplantdturok on Jul 19, 2011 09:05 PM

    this hyper made me hyper

  68. FilePotatojunderscore on Jul 19, 2011 09:15 PM

Wow. Started late. Went for a walk to the park. Came back. And still finished 91st. Very fun. Thanks!

  69. Hal-9000Strawberrythelatetrain on Jul 19, 2011 09:35 PM

    loved this puzzle!

  70. SavethewordscopySailboatWordoPhile on Jul 19, 2011 09:58 PM

that was brilliant - i didnt even care about scoring the bonus points - I simply loved solving it !!
[34] looking word, word word word :) to more of these puzzles
    great job AdamMcD

  71. FileBananaTrimster on Jul 19, 2011 10:34 PM

I almost gave up because 2 didn't come to me right away, but I'm glad I persisted, because it became easier and a lot more fun!

  72. Avatar_profileGrapesnapalmkids on Jul 19, 2011 10:45 PM

    Super puzzle! I loved it!

  73. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Jul 19, 2011 11:13 PM

[34] Heh, likely Unfeatured :) A *lot* of those other clues were not as nice as these, IMO. Some, of course, were essentially repeats, and some didn't quite work, I felt. But yeah... it was GREAT to be able to choose a solid 14-16 from a much larger set. (we turned one of them into the OWW :P)

And it's definitely one of the reasons that this Hyper is terrific. Adam gave himself a huge clue pool to choose from, which was really smart. Also, it's just a great idea :) Mind you, I also love Zendo, so I was somewhat predisposed to like this one anyway.

  74. Untitled-1PumpkinAdamMcD on Jul 22, 2011 02:34 PM

Thanks for all the compliments folks!

[34] [73] I'll try to submit the "leftovers" for an unfeatured HC soon. Edit: I may hold off in light of some new ideas TG'ed to me. Thanks guys.

  75. FilePepperChupper on Jul 20, 2011 05:13 AM

A tad inconsistent on pluralization, but otherwise enjoyable

  76. FileRocketjonathanrstone on Jul 20, 2011 05:35 AM

    Fun puzzle!

  77. Avatar_profileStrawberrypurpleturtle98 on Jul 20, 2011 05:42 AM

I seem to be the only one having a problem with figuring out #7. The rest came pretty quickly

  78. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jul 20, 2011 06:11 AM

[77] Actually, I had a TON of trouble with that one. It was the last one I got. The case differences are important, but very hard to see. You are looking for a particular letter that appears in a certain manner on one side but not the other. Does that help?

It seems late enough and far enough down the comments for that to be an acceptable level of public salt. If you disagree, TG me and I'll retract.

  79. FileRocketlaurelg1 on Jul 20, 2011 12:17 PM

Stuck on 11 and 13 (but might have 13)... probably have others wrong. This one is tough but I will not give up!

Edit: Went shopping, came back with a clear mind (and wallet) and solved. Whew~

  80. FileEggjohninc on Jul 20, 2011 07:34 AM

Great puzzle. The googlefests and the mindless picture ID puzzles get so tiring, this was refreshing. Thanks Adam.

  81. FilePumpkinimapuzzl on Jul 20, 2011 08:08 AM

    Sinc
e no one else seems to be having problems with #3 or #12, I'm probably overthinking them. But if you have any salt.....

    I was right.

    P&S

  82. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jul 20, 2011 08:27 AM

[79] #11 is very similar to #6. For #13, [41] has the best salt, I think. In addition to that, I'd say that relative order is important.

And, guys, it takes 7 flags to delete the spam, so help us out so we can get rid of [82] and [83].

  83. UturnPotatoSmithyP on Jul 20, 2011 09:14 AM

AWESOME puzzle! [14] provided just the right amount of salt to complete my meal.

  84. Avatar_profileWatermelonsqueez6009 on Jul 20, 2011 11:13 AM

even after salt, still stuck on #13
GOT IT...after thinking for a while and finally seeing the connection.

  85. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 20, 2011 11:06 AM

    [86] TG sent

  86. UrsamajorCarrotursamajor on Jul 20, 2011 11:24 AM

Favorite Hypercross ever! Love Zendo, and love what you've done with it!

  87. Avatar_profilePearlogant on Jul 20, 2011 12:54 PM

I don't know what the deal is with #9, but the only logical conclusion I could come to for it is wrong (unless it was correct and the differences between british english and american english are killing me in the spelling of any others.) Good puzzle, but #9 seems to be a douche. Just gonna scrap it.

  88. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jul 20, 2011 01:00 PM

[89] hmm, pay attention to #7 w.r.t. U.S. spelling. If you want to TG me what you've got for #9 I'll be glad to provide some feedback.

  89. FileCarrotengles on Jul 20, 2011 01:21 PM

In retrospect, #3 should have been one of the easier ones, but I just could not figure it out.
    Great puzzle.
