    Clever cluing tonight! Nice work.

  2. Nick_dress_blues_2Pancakesbitwisenot on Jan 22, 2012 07:05 PM

Nice and well clued, thanks for making it!

  3. ErwinPepperTangaAl on Jan 22, 2012 07:05 PM

Very, very nice, sonjahi! Liked #12, and #6....

  4. Christopher_david_ryan_-_eyeGarlickc6201 on Jan 22, 2012 07:07 PM

Thought #7 was kind of tricky. Also, I didn't read the title closely enough, so I thought some of these would involve q's, which slowed my solving down because I sometimes tried the q first.

  5. 6-9-06Xylophonehouck on Jan 22, 2012 07:10 PM

What a wonderful hypercross! Thanks, sonjahi.

  6. MonkeytypePepperJimboTab13 on Jan 22, 2012 07:11 PM

I especially liked how many different ways the * ended up being entered in the answers. Very nice.

  7. FilePumpkinMoneypenny on Jan 22, 2012 07:15 PM

Yep, I had some trouble on #7, doubting myself on what I thought the picture was, after I couldn't come up with a word. I was right about the picture, just had a difference in pronunciation that was tripping me up.

There are also two versions of the song title in #12, but the blanks make it clear.

    I liked #9 and #15 though.

  8. FileRadishleighmcd on Jan 22, 2012 07:15 PM

    Fun puzzle

  9. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Jan 22, 2012 07:58 PM

Wow, in a way this is deja vu for me (but not for the rest or you . . .yet). Fun puzzle!

  10. MarkerryanCarrotryanker on Jan 22, 2012 07:15 PM

[4] Yeah, I had a bit of trouble with #7 as well, but it's gettable.

At least we didn't have to worry about regional accent differences. :-)

  11. FileDuckieroboroo on Jan 22, 2012 07:17 PM

Ok...I'm in agreement....#7 made me scratch my head for a while, but I eventually got it. Nice puzzle.

  12. FilePotatoGinnyjulie on Jan 22, 2012 07:20 PM

    Excellent job all around Sonjahi.

  13. Pb-101214-cross-eyed-9a.photoblog900_cSailboatwidedeki on Jan 22, 2012 07:23 PM

I really liked this one. #7 gave me the most trouble.

  14. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Jan 22, 2012 07:27 PM

[10] I think the reason #7 was so difficult IS because of regional accent/pronunciation differences. I came up with at least 2 answers for #7 that should have been right, but didn't fit. Had a devil of a time getting the right answer.

  15. Art_land_of_free_eagleEggplantJWillOH on Jan 22, 2012 07:28 PM

    Very nicely clued.

  16. Gap_-_blue_eyesDuckiespeedgitano on Jan 22, 2012 07:49 PM

I'm almost sure with my answers by it's not taking it. Anyone willing to check them for me?

    TG sent

  17. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jan 22, 2012 07:44 PM

Yes, I thought #7 might me tough for some because the pronunciation is not quite spot-on. But I don't think it's regional. It's just a slight stretch in the phonetics. FWIW, it was written by an Oklahoman and reviewed by a Canadian and a Californian. So we pretty well covered the regions, all except you North-Easterners who talk funny :D.

Thanks, guys - I'm glad most all have enjoyed it.

  18. FileBananaethnosax on Jan 22, 2012 07:45 PM

Technically, that's not really what the R in RIP stands for, but most people think it is.

  19. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jan 22, 2012 07:45 PM

[16] #13 is your most likely spelling mistake. I'll only be on for a few more minutes, but if you get it to me quick, I'll check them.

  20. FileGarlicdharmaRN on Jan 22, 2012 07:56 PM

For *t's Sake, that was a fun hyper!

  21. UturnPotatoSmithyP on Jan 22, 2012 08:23 PM

I definitely think #7 will be a stretch for most PEO-PLE, but I finally came up with a different silent letter that produced answer.

  22. Mangos-big-750570Sailboatkgnanamu on Jan 22, 2012 08:29 PM

I have all the words fitting right but guess I have something wrong. Can I TG someone for checking. Thanks.

  23. OctopusPeppercomishcraig on Jan 22, 2012 08:29 PM

    I don't like #7. It's a perfect clue for that magazine.

  24. Avatar_profileWatermelonmzspiffy on Jan 22, 2012 08:53 PM

how does one actually get their answers checked on here? Can't figure out what is wrong for the life of me.

  25. FilePotatoMihmoos on Jan 22, 2012 09:03 PM

Got really confused with #7. SIL is a firefighter and I wondered what he hadn't been telling me!

  26. Panda-flyGarlicpandapal on Jan 22, 2012 11:39 PM

    Great clues. Enjoyed this one!

  27. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Jan 23, 2012 03:19 AM

FWIW, #7 is my favorite. The "other" one would be something tug-of-warish, IMO. And not this.

  28. Mangos-big-750570Sailboatkgnanamu on Jan 23, 2012 10:00 AM

I think I got #7 (there's a silent letter?) and the rest seem to be straight forward but still not getting them all right.

Edit: Thanks [29], that was the reason for non-acceptance.

  29. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jan 23, 2012 01:38 PM

For those that can't figure out what's wrong, please look at #13. If you don't have a card game, you don't have it right. If you have a card game, check your spelling.

I had someone send me a list with a word that means the top of something in that spot. It fits the crossings but starts more like "pin", rather than "pea".

If that doesn't get it, I'm always willing to check someone's answers. Just send them to me in a TG.

edit: Apparently there is actually a card game for that "other" word too which means if you try to Google your answer with "card game", it won't help. So... if you aren't familiar with this classic card game, it's a trick-taking game that uses a 48 card deck. Maybe that will give you enough Google fodder. :)

  30. FileRadishArrow on Jan 23, 2012 11:42 AM

Fun! #9 was the hardest for me. I just couldn't hear it at first.

  31. FileRocketscottolmsted on Jan 23, 2012 02:46 PM

#3 threw me off. peahen too short, but peafowl fits just perfectly.

  32. FilePlumlordebon on Jan 23, 2012 06:44 PM

(Edit) Nm, accidentally deleted a letter.

  33. UntitledPotatoBenditlikebaker on Jan 23, 2012 07:13 PM

[29] helped. I kept spelling it like the vodka. Head in the gutter. :)

  34. Avatar_profilePeachteachergal02 on Jan 23, 2012 07:26 PM

[19] That's just the salt I needed. Thanks.

  35. FileEggplantblinman on Jan 24, 2012 05:54 AM

I got the theme right away for a change - great puzzle!

  36. FileSailboatdagibbs on Jan 24, 2012 11:13 AM

[18] yup, what 18 said. It is requiescat (sp?) in pace.

And, I'm stuck on bloody #7. I may have to wander off, and let my brain work in the background.

  37. FileSailboatdagibbs on Jan 24, 2012 11:20 AM

I got 7, I don't like it. But, maybe it is a regionalism, I'm from Ontario, Canada, with British background. Though, a quick google of "define: " does give the pronunciation I use as my first hit for that word. And it clearly has a sound that is not in any way clued in the pictures.

  38. Tpb2Peachsubpeaksurfer on Jan 24, 2012 12:07 PM

Thanks [29] I thought for sure it was a synonym for apex, peak, precipice, pyramid. I never would have gone for the card game...

  39. Avatar_profileOrangeroromissd78 on Jan 26, 2012 03:07 PM

    fun!
