First here and the OWW. I guess everyone was waiting for the Crypto to load.
[1] congratulations! a double-first is always something to be proud of. I've only done that a few times, and it really feels good.
Took me a bit to realize I wasn't supposed to finish the text in #5 - actually took me figuring out the theme before I slapped my forehead.
And there's actually a technical difference between stuffing and the answer to #3... has to do with whether it's actually stuffed into the turkey or not.
I enjoyed the puzzle - really like how you clued #12.
Very nice puzzle. The title threw me for a bit of a loop but was finally the salt I needed.
[3] I've never heard that distinction. Where I grew up, it was always called #3, whether or not it was stuffed! So I just check several dictionaries, all of which said the words are synonymous.
[1] Congratulations. I, once again, got here 15 minutes late, and with you and the other brilliant Tanganites on site, there are no bonus points for me :-).
Ok, I swear I've got all the words right but it says I'm wrong....what now?
ETA: Damn guys with their fists.... got it now.
Had to use Google... Googled #5 and realized then, it wasn't finishing the sentence. :(
[5] I grew up using them interchangeably. Within the last few years, I've had more than one person tell me that that was the difference. It made sense so I never bothered to question it. Maybe it has more to do with using the answer word whether it's stuffed in the turkey or not but only calling it stuffing if... well, it was stuffed. :)
And it wouldn't surprise me to find out the words previously had this distinction but that distinction is getting lost. It also wouldn't surprise me to find out that the people (or their families) had made that distinction in their own heads only!
[3] [5] [9] I've always understood it to be regional. The answer term is used more commonly in the south, the other term is more common in the north, regardless of how it's cooked.
I live in north but grew up in the south. Here in the north, I've never heard answer word used, regardless of placement. But in the south and the way I still use the terms; Is that stuffing is obviously in the turkey and the answer word is (my preference) baked in seperate pan.
what in the world is 12???
I got all the words in the puzzle, but when adding them to the common word (i.e., #13), I have no idea what the resulting phrase for #11 means.
I thought they were all super easy, Except for 10 and 12... I cant figure them out. My brain stopped working I guess. :(
