I rushed through the other three and have hit a brick wall on this one.

the other puzzles were great, figured them out without any help tonight. I am now at that block wall with you [1]

Got the theme!

[3] I thought I had the theme from the title, but apparently not since I can't get anything to fit right...

I got the answer to one picture to fit right but that might be a fluke!

Third or so. That was...kind of terrible. Not only will most people have to go just look up a list (see the title if you need help), but the clues were in many cases vague or wrong. The KISS album cover, for instance: how exactly does the adjective in the answer fit in? Also: there's a difference between a crown and a trumpet. Overall: meh.

Is one spelled wrong? Because I'm pretty sure I've got the right answers in.

Edit: Nevermind. I misspelled the one that's actually spelled in the clue.

Sheesh!

Edit 2: Bookmarking that page because if this is Vol.1, I know exactly where to go for Vol.2.

(Incidentally: the last across answer is a good Google-based place to break in, if you're not getting the theme. And in terms of getting things to fit: leave out initial "the"s, and occasionally some other initial words.)

Theme is what I thought... now time to google.

Wow, second night in a row where the theme was great! Nice work!

I think I have the theme, but honestly not a single clue filled in. What a weird hypercross.

I love the random choice of what was included in the answer. At first I thought just articles were left out. But instead words at the beginning or end are just left off. I liked the theme, but keep retrying parts of the answer until something fit?

I'm not getting this one at all

Got it. Definitely an adventurous theme.

could someone BGG me the theme?

K so I was waaay off trying to fit "Californium" into the spot with the sunblock. It's not that kind of elementary...

Not really my cuppa here, but STUdom is now mine! Mwahaha...

Okay theme, but very clunky.

Not bad. Some creative clues; a few too many liberties taken with the answers.

Theme was good, clues not so good.

I did not enjoy this. The theme was interesting, but the execution was poor. Too many clues were vague or inappropriate, and several clue answers omitted random words. Unfortunately, this is evidently the first of a series of similar puzzles.

It was the Dr. Crusher clue that made it click for me, though I suppose that the theme should have been obvious from the start.

nice!

MORE LIKE "SPACKLED" AMIRITE?

"case of"...groan.

[22] Speaking of nice, I like your... username!

Yeah, I thought I had the theme, but I wasn't familiar enough with the subject matter and couldn't get a one. Finally googled a certain name and the rest was, well, I'm sure there's a word for it.

I don't know why so many people are complaining about the puzzle. I thought it was excellent. Discovering the theme is half the mystery. But the answers all come from the same collection. Unfortunately for that, volume 2 will be no surprise, my dear Tanganites.

hmph!

I think this one goes on the "shrug" pile... I can't get the theme, or any answer (and they're all LONG), and don't recognize most of it. The Fun meter should be at -3.

Any further salt would be appreciated.

[29] what is the first thing that pops into your head when you read the title?

[25] probably a big biker-looking dude in real life

[6] just in case you don't know already, try taking the second 'o' out of the crown/trumpet word you're talking about and google what you have left.

In case you do already know:
Geez, how literal do you need your puzzles to be, it was plenty close enough for me...

Maybe it's just me but that was pretty bad ans streching it. There were a lot of words omitted from the actual titles and I had to pretty much guess which ones he wanted in or not.

Not impressed Hope Vol. 2 never sees daylight

Or maybe there isn't a second. I might be in referencce to a volume of Holmes stories

Either way, No encore please

Very rough execution of the theme, unfortunately. I spent a lot of time researching an album cover (the adjective has to be stretched to apply). The soundalikes with Uncle Miltie were somewhat rough. I took a shot in the dark at the second-to-last down clue, because I have no idea what the picture has to do with the answer. The Isaiah clue was decent, but only if you happened to be using the right version (I tried my default, NIV, and failed miserably--it translates the word 'eqdach as "sparkling jewels"; NASB gives "crystal"; other versions use "jewels," "shining gems," and "shining jewels." The KJV finally gave me the right word. Probably the best clue was Beverly Crusher, once I knew the theme to look for.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. This was my first attempt at constructing a puzzle, so I clearly have a lot to learn. I haven't even been solving these very long, either. I also wasn't finished editing it when it got "accepted". I had to head off to work before I was able to give it a last once over, then later I get an e-mail saying it was accepted, even though there was no "submit" button in the editor tool. Who knew? After solving yesterday's Shakespeare puzzle at lunch, I had a better idea on how to handle title clues, but - though I did not know it yet - it was too late to fix this one.

[35] I liked this one a lot. Sure some of the clues were hard, but once you figured out the theme it was a finite list to compare and I thought you were quite clever in getting some of the answers. I had no problem figuring out which part of the answers to use - thought that part was obvious. The hardest part for me was figuring out the theme - finally googled the name in the map and looked at the answers to see which one matched elementary...then it hit me.

Overall - I say good job and am looking forward to Vol 2.

geez, i've re typed my answers a bunch of times - i think i have everything but they won't go through. Any ideas?

[35] Loved the idea, just a little shaky on some execution. Keep it up. Congrats on a first published

[30] It sure wasn't that, and I had a hard time getting away from that to get to the right theme. Of course, once I got there, it was trivial... the list isn't that long.

[7] I'm hoping that Vol. 2 uses the theme to which I *thought* the title referred. In other words, a completely different meaning of "Elementary".

[35] My *only* with this puzzle is that my complete and total unfamiliarity with the subject meant I had no clue where to even start searching for the theme. Once I was pointed in the right direction for the theme, it was easy enough.

Ok, again, can someone help on this - I've retyped my answers a zillion times and rechecked spelling. Everything fits but I keep getting the "sorry" I'd say the hell with it but I'm too stubborn. AAARRRGGGHH

[41] IIRC, make sure your "beech" is a "beach". That's the only thing that tripped me up.

Edit: Actually, I really don't remember now. Maybe it was "beech" after all. I can't see the actual answer to double-check. :)

[34]The right word is easy to know once you know the theme (or at least was to me.) The clue was obvious to me as soon as I got to the fruit clue.
