  3. 217303494_crw_7371110107Appleamaries80 on Dec 08, 2007 07:24 PM

I'm stuck on 3 of these...any salt for the green prickly thing, the big yellow tomato looking thing and the red raspberry looking one?

  4. FilePlumhistorysteph on Dec 08, 2007 07:26 PM

  6. FilePumpkincherylo on Dec 08, 2007 07:31 PM

Argh. I am stuck on the fruits on the screen and the yellow tomato thing.

[3]If you search for the attributes of the green prickly thing, you will find it. Do you mean the last one or the actual raspberry in the other case?

  7. FileGarlicmartinp13 on Dec 08, 2007 07:32 PM

All done... now I need a steak!

  8. 217303494_crw_7371110107Appleamaries80 on Dec 08, 2007 07:35 PM

  9. AvatarSailboatjjcool on Dec 08, 2007 07:36 PM

  10. FilePumpkincherylo on Dec 08, 2007 07:38 PM

[8] search for the attributes, the outside and inside colors.

  11. AvatarApplebagherra on Dec 08, 2007 07:44 PM

and I thought it was called star fruit.

awesome rose art! I wish I could do that.

  12. Avatar_profileAppleTarindel on Dec 08, 2007 07:49 PM

[11] It is called starfruit. Must be a common name.

I'd never heard of the yellow tentacled one before (and I've been to Asia). Had to google it.

  13. FileCheeseburgerSydneyHeart on Dec 08, 2007 07:54 PM

Several of these seem to have several names...

  14. FileRocketokmaybenot on Dec 08, 2007 07:55 PM

[4] Believe it or not, the one that looks like an octopus is a relative of the lemon.

  15. FileDuckienrkii on Dec 08, 2007 07:57 PM

the green one had two different names ... it took me a while to find the other one

  16. FileCheeseburgerSydneyHeart on Dec 08, 2007 08:01 PM

I have googled my behind off and can't find the green pimply one. And the common name doesn't fit. Any more salt?

NM finally found it. There are a LOT of names for this one.

  17. 217303494_crw_7371110107Appleamaries80 on Dec 08, 2007 08:00 PM

finally! Thanks for the help cherylo!

  18. FileEggplantunilab98 on Dec 08, 2007 08:05 PM

this puzzle is horrible. sorry to say.

  19. FilePlumlseelba on Dec 08, 2007 08:05 PM

This is just stupid. Three fruits that no one has ever heard about, and at least one of them isn't in any crossword solver I can find. Lame hypercross.

  20. FileRaspberrytpals on Dec 08, 2007 08:14 PM

Still can't find the ugly yellow fruit!

  21. FileCheeseburgerSydneyHeart on Dec 08, 2007 08:22 PM

[20] Try thinking about the guy some monks worship

  22. FilePumpkinBigSlick on Dec 08, 2007 08:34 PM

[21] Thanks! That did it! Some of those were a little too obscure for my tastes!

  23. FileAceMzblubrd on Dec 08, 2007 09:06 PM

and hints on where to look for the green bumpy thing, I havent been able to google it into much of anything

  24. 160Carrotbtmeyers on Dec 08, 2007 09:16 PM

[23] try searching google for green bumpy fruit, you'll find a link to a bunch of different exotic fruits (not citrus fruit).

  25. FileRaspberryMarkel on Dec 08, 2007 09:28 PM

[21] Thanks for that salt - I would have never found that one without it.

  26. Avatar_profileOrangeecliptic on Dec 08, 2007 09:41 PM

    That was painful.

  27. FileStrawberryanthrorob on Dec 09, 2007 01:12 PM

    What is the Ipod thingy?

edit: [15] of course *slaps forehead*

  28. FilePancakesMysticalmelody on Dec 08, 2007 10:38 PM

the iphone is a fruit... if it were a fruit what would it be?

  29. Pix__8SailboatBanana80 on Dec 08, 2007 10:54 PM

    Thanks [14]
    Man the iphone threw me

  30. FileApplegilby123 on Dec 09, 2007 12:46 AM

Wow, that green bumpy one took a bit of researching.

  31. FilePotatorevchewie on Dec 09, 2007 01:46 AM

[11] I'd never heard it called anything else, either.

[24] Tried that search string, even added "-citrus" which dropped the total hits from 25,700 to 22,900. Still searching, but having no luck.

Edit: Ok, finally got it... Odd puzzle, odd in that there was no real challenge other than finding out the names of some obscure asian fruits.

  32. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Dec 09, 2007 02:30 AM

Had to really work for those points.

  33. FilePeachjameshumphries on Dec 09, 2007 08:49 AM

is anyone else having problems with the puzzle accepting the answers?
I've gone through and i'm 99.9% sure everything is dead-on right, but its always "sorry, that's not correct" would anyone give me a hand with checking answers?

  34. English_d_betterApplemrdehate on Dec 09, 2007 09:40 AM

Pretty much a Google-fest. Two points for crossword solvers on this one.

  35. FilePumpkinDisreputable on Dec 09, 2007 10:19 AM

[33] I'm in the same boat, more or less. I have identified the fruit correctly, and the names I chose all fit perfectly together, but it says I have something wrong. And I don't really care to put any more serious effort into this.

EDIT: Ok, a 9-year-old just pointed out an alternative spelling (changed one vowel) and it worked. But, to be fair, she also thought I was spelling "banana" with one "n" too few.

  36. Avatar_profileGrapesjulzlady on Dec 09, 2007 10:23 AM

    33...same problem. Can't figure out what's wrong.

  37. FileStrawberryanthrorob on Dec 09, 2007 01:13 PM

    d'oh ...of course! Thanks [28]

  38. FilePearckpete2887 on Dec 09, 2007 02:55 PM

[33], [35], [36] Same thing. I can't figure out what has an alternative spelling.

Edit: Found it finally. The thing that is also a star fruit, the word used has alternate spellings.

  39. FileAceMalllkaV on Dec 09, 2007 02:45 PM

any salt for the yellow tomato looking thing? I have everything else.

  40. FilePearckpete2887 on Dec 09, 2007 02:46 PM

It's more orange. I searched for yellow tomato like fruit and found the answer.

  41. FileAceMalllkaV on Dec 09, 2007 03:02 PM

ckpete thanks for search string. Holy cow that was an odd one.

  42. FileGarlick1w1 on Dec 09, 2007 05:10 PM

    That was......painful.

  43. Avatar_profileStrawberryTheOneAndOnlyJH on Dec 11, 2007 09:42 AM

So I looked at the iPhone and thought it was meant 'orange'. Which made sense, because that's the service provider in France. Only there are one too many letters. Then I realized it was much simpler than that.

  44. FilePlumfishboy on Dec 20, 2007 06:53 PM

This puzzle apparently caused a lot of consternation, but I think it was good. At least as good as today's buildings of the world, which I also enjoyed. Maybe I just like it because of how much I watch Iron Chef, but honestly, those fruits aren't so obscure.

  45. FractalTomatodduensing on Sep 16, 2010 12:17 PM

[44] Not obscure? Says you! I've never heard of a few of these. They are NOT common to people in the United States!

Finding 4 of these turned out to be a google-fest...with the green, spiky one turning into at least a 30 minute search.

Salt on #7 (green bumpy/spiky one)....it is a compound word....the first part of it is a common male name, the second part is the theme of this puzzle. According to one web page..it is an Asian fruit, and has a yellow skin whose flavor is comparable to that of a banana.

Salt on #4 (yellow-orange tomato)... it comes from trees in the genus Diospyros in the ebony wood family. (you might want to google some or all of this wording.)

Salt on #3 (yellow tentacles)... another name for it is a "fingered citron". The name this puzzle wants is the name of an Asian religious deity's part of the body.

Salt on #12. Google the words "star fruit". You'll find it's proper name.

Salt on #10 (red circular berries)... Popular in China, Japan, and southeast Asia. I've heard the word "nut" appended to the end of it in Mothra movies. It is part soapberry family of evergreen trees,

Hopefully this will help future solvers.

[45] That was very nice of you. [Edit: Deleted rest of message in which I thought I was being clever and witty, then realized I was sadly mistaken.]
