Seriously? I think I know about 5 of these and no way to figure out the rest. Is there a site to search that has a list of logos? Otherwise just a list of names isn't helping. Very few of the words cross at the first letter...
yeah... I don't know if there's a faster way, but I used a coupla different lists at wikipedia (fast food, chain, etc.). Except that not all of the logos there match what's in the puzzle (different versions).
This was rough for me, never having been to a #2 or #4, or ever even heard of #12. Maybe it'll be easier for non-East Coasters. (Also haven't been to a few that are supposedly on this coast, too, but oh well!) :-)
On wiki, #7 has another word in front of the answer.
#11 is an abbreviation; wikipedia has it listed only under its long name.
Unfortunately, I can only recognize 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 11 without extensive research. [15] - The website you offer is a nice comprehensive list, but unfortunately no logo images to help.
It's impossible to recognize a logo you've never seen. The easiest way to solve this puzzle is probably to move to California!
This puzzle is yet another example of Tanga's West Coast bias. (Surely you've all noticed that unfeatured puzzles are released at times convenient for West Coasters.)
[17] Anticipating West Coast bias on this puzzle, the first place I looked for wasn't there, lol! Not a Jack in the Box in the bunch.
Unfeatured or not, this was an incredibly frustrating puzzle and I don't think it should have been accepted. While it might have seemed clever to feature just a snippet of a logo it was just plain wrong.
I have no problem at all with the concept of the puzzle - I just wish there were a way to do targeted searches of images on the internet. If I were dedicated enough, I'm confident I could eventually find pictures of the logos online somewhere, but to the best of my knowledge the only way to do it is to laboriously scan through pages of thumbnails on google images and hope you recognize something. (If there's a better way, someone PLEASE tell me!) I'm bored, but not quite *that* bored....
Because, and only because, this puzzle is so unfair to anyone not on the West Coast, and probably to many of THEM as well. I'm going to share the following with you that was shared with me and helped a lot.
Here are the first letters of the answers: K, C, C, I, J, C, M, S, C, J, C, M.
Oh, and #11 is the abbreviation for a 3 word chain name.
I live in California and I'm a graphic designer (who loves logos) and these are very tough. This is not just west coast biased, it a very difficult concept with no easy solution. This is the best example of a type of Tanga puzzle I really don't like. You must have knowledge of these items or you have no chance of solving it without help. It's even worse when you know you recognize the miniscule fragment somewhere, but have no idea how to find it. I can't believe this was tested by folks outside of this person's neighborhood (Fresno ?). I'm completely stuck on one image and I've spent at least an hour trying to dig the answers for this one and others (number 9 is killing me). Numbers 2 & 4 are VERY west coast specific and absolutely should not have been on this puzzle.
wow a lot of regional stuff that is not accost the country and so it ia not available to every one :^(
then the hints are also a little stingy :^(
doesn't look like much fun :^(
Sorry it's so difficult for all! I was not aware that most of these weren't more nationwide chains. I was actually surprised to see that it was published and just received word now that it was published!
9 of these are definitely on the East Coast (at least in the NY/NJ/CT tristate area) so I am not sure this is as West Coast specific as people are saying it is. It was difficult though.
The ones that can be found on the East Coast are:
1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11
[18] A lot more filtering needs to go into publishing these puzzles. This lacked way too much to even be considered. Not only are the images cut to small but they are way too blurry to make out.
I can't speak for the east coast, but I'm in the midwest and had heard of all but one. I know I could drive to most if not all of them.
Even knowing them, though, I had to look most of them up. The image size is just to small. Larger images would have made them easier to recognize, and more letters would make the easier to look up.
On a related note, are we allowed to complain about the quality of unfeatured puzzles? Aren't unfeatured puzzles supposed to be of lesser quality?
[35] I'm at the very top of the NY Tri-State region, and the only ones we have within 50 or 60 miles (at least) are #8 and #9. In fairness there was a #1, but they closed all their stores in this region some time ago.
I had heard of #3 and #7 only because my son went to school in Rochester. And I'd heard of #2 because of their other company with the same logo which used to be around here long, long ago.
But other than that, these were a mystery to me. And, even knowing OF the restaurants, I couldn't identify their logos from this puzzle.
I live near Milwaukee and while I have heard of 4, 10, 11, 12 - I don't recall having seen any of them around here. And 2, 5, and 6 - never at all. The closest I've been to #11 is the box in the freezer section of my grocery store. Even saying that, it wasn't familiar enough for me to recognize especially not with just 3 letters.
I feel that the size and quality of the image should be the same regardless of whether or not the puzzle is featured.
Fragments of the logos made this a bad idea. In some cases, the fragment was so small that if you didn't exactly know what it was, you had no chance.
At least the full logo with the important stuff photoshopped out would have been a little better.
TooDifficultPuzzle. shoulda been larger snips (esp. of the less-known regional ones) and the enlarged pics were less useful than the small ones were! And the CPK was just too much; that's not the name of the restaurant. I know, I eat there, I'm from California (you can buy their boxed xxxxx's in the freezer section).
Check in future...
[30] Spent about 30 minutes looking for gourmet pie places in the Golden State. Turns out I was thinking about the wrong kind of pie, i.e. the dessert rather than the one with pepperoni. :) After I figured that out, #11 fell into place.
I agree with the majority, poorly designed puzzle with a too-regional 'flavor'.
I wouldn't say it's too regional, maybe too urban. Since I live in BFE, only 3 of these were things I recognized from my area, then another 3 from TV, then I was totally lost for the rest. But this was a good idea, just a bit too much chain restaurant knowledge for any one person lol

I'm stuck on #7. Any help?
[3] Yankee Doodle had a name for it, kinda.
[4] Thank you! I'd never heard of it. Actually, I hadn't heard of most of these. The only ones we have around here are 1, 4, 8, and 9.
I cant get 6 or 12, and i am from east coast - maybe thats hurting me but most seemed easy.
[1] I'm a Midwesterner with teen-agers, and I don't even recognize more than 4 of them right off that bat.
edit: Okay, recognize another one. 5 out of 12? Ugh!
ahh got 6, I knew I recognized it from around here... so now just 12
Got #4 with a Yahoo image search for fast food logos.
Ummm...ok...very rural area of NY State here, and I only recognize 2. Who let this puzzle slip through? This is supposed to be FUN??? Hardly!
[10] I tg'd you what I have. Maybe you recognize something that I don't? Still not having much luck.
Okay - #2 could be 2 different chains. Both with the same logo and same number of letters.
[12] Go with the person's name on that.
[12] Check your TG's
For those who are struggling with this puzzle as much as I did....try this website: http://www.dietfacts.com/fastfood.asp
(with thanks to Philana for all her help)

Good luck.
#12 could be opened by a girl from La Boheme (or Rent)... or by Mariah Carey.
The guy who played Fletch might like #6.
#4 is also a movie in which Kevin Kline's character came out (with an "n" instead of &).
#5 is a smoothie chain.
#1 makes delicious doughnuts.
The second word in #10 is in the title of a song sung by both Elton John and William Shatner.
HTH!
[18] LOL! I wouldn't have recognized a Jack in the Box logo either, but at least I've heard of them and could have looked up the logo.
Whoopsie! Posted at the same time as [21], but with more NaCL. If my post ([22]) is too much, please flag!

[25] #9 is nationwide; kids love it.
[26] Thanks, that qualifies as Good Eats??

This should help you all out a little...

It doesn't help with #3 or #11
Sorry it's so difficult for all! I was not aware that most of these weren't more nationwide chains. I was actually surprised to see that it was published and just received word now that it was published!
[29]
#3 is a place where they are known for their creamy, cake-like desserts
#11 is a place in the Golden State where you can get a gourmet hot pie
Wow, I knew like 4 out of the 12. Never even heard of half of these restaurants. Must be my midwest bias! LOL
I knew two at first and could guess at two more. Never heard of 4 of them. Not a lot of fun
[28] LOL, you would prefer I said something like "rhymes with kurger bing"?
Have never seen or heard of some of these.

[37] I'm guessing that you live near a very large city.
[35] I'm at the very top of the NY Tri-State region, and the only ones we have within 50 or 60 miles (at least) are #8 and #9. In fairness there was a #1, but they closed all their stores in this region some time ago.

[37] I think they should be training grounds to get good feedback so you can move on to making better puzzles.
I think if your a puzzle maker you want to have your puzzles rated good enough to be FEATURED puzzles.
But ANY published puzzle is something to be proud of!

sheesh, what a slog fest, even with all the salt...lol [33], "rhymes with kurger bing"...what some people will do for 5 points...
Wow. Never heard of 6 of those, and only got 3 on my own. Had to get some major help!
I am not going to waste my time on this. Terrible.
Awful
