Aug 04, 2007 Hypercross Puzzle

Had to Google for the first one, but got the rest pretty fast.

I'm stuck on the far left down.

Puzzle was simple enough, took me forever to catch on to the theme...

Solved the puzzle, but still don't get the theme.

Got the theme quick, though starting with the top across through me off at first.

Yeah... took me a minute.

two down looks like a movie but I was born long since the days of black and white. Any help figuring out the mvoie at least?

One down had me stumped. But then I happened to have PBS on...

Spelling.... Argh!!

The first name is obviously the theme. If you get one, you can most likely get the rest.

[11] That actually helped me figure out both 2 across AND 1 down!

Bottom right across needs a "the" somehow. (Unlike Smokey Bear, whose "the" is not part of his name.)

This is the first of these I could complete! (usually I can't make sense of it at all)
The theme was blazingly simple, but used the salt and google for left-down - never watch PBS talk-shows (or any talk shows).

Any hints on the first across? It looks familiar but I can't put my finger on it...

Nice puzzle. I had trouble with #2. I didn't know his last name. Thanks google!
