First time top 10!!!!!
Good one.
Not grasping the theme.
Ok, now I get it, some still don't make sense to me. :/
theme salt?

W00T! First Top 10! My ill spent youth pays off.
[4] Robots in disguise!
13th! WooHoo!
(I'm lucky my stepson is into the theme, or I'd never have figured it out) ;p
Any help with the presidential candidate? (Do we use the first name? Last name? Party? Platform?)
Edit - nm. My first instinct was correct.
alrighty then, I think I have three of them and the rest are eluding me along with the actual theme of this one.
love the theme, can't get half of them so far.
[4] Thanks blahmcblah, I was totally lost on the theme until I read your salt. After that, Wikipedia was my friend.
47th in a subject I know nothing about, not bad at all
I wish my son were still up. Fun
No sacrifice, no victory
I must have something misspelled because I've looked them all up.
whoa... that was nice. Just happened to have had a refresher on this topic last week.
I believe I have everything correct, but it's not accepting :(
any salt on Obama?
[16] that one was BLOCKING me for a long time because I couldn't spelling it correctly.
I can't get the pres candidate or scoreboard ones. :( I think I know the pres candidate one, but there isn't a mention of it anywhere.
Nevermind... I was wrong... it wasn't a fish. Scoreboard one is hard... never heard of it before.
Sweet! Once you finally learn the theme it totally transforms your world! : )
[6] thank you that did it for me
Wow. I don't know any of these at all, I just hope the WP articles list all of them or I'm scrod. It took me this long just to work out what the theme was!
stuck on the presidential candidate here too
the list I'm using isn't helping
Bizarre theme and even more bizarre clues for some of those. Luckily, once you get the theme (thanks [6]!) you can find sites that help a lot.
The presidential candidate could instead be another word for a lawyer.
[22] it's not obama-first.
[8] I think he's on a first name basis with the answer.
okay, now I have all of them, but it's not taking it, so I've got one wrong
The rodent one -- is that a Star Wars character in the second picture?
ugh, it was the No G's one that had me messed up -- filled it in early before I found the list and forgot to check it!
[29] that one still baffles me. I solved it, but most of the lists for the theme I've found are inclusive of all the variations and spin-offs of the theme. took me a bit to filter through -- I kinda pattern matched and guessed at it. /shrug
Once you get the theme, its easy. If you get a certain one, you will know what the theme is.
123rd... first time in the 100's.
I can't get the one with a fur coat, the one with the tool at the end, and the one with no Gs. I know nothing at all about this entire subject, but scanning the lists on WP gave me all the rest - I think!
[29] [30]
If you get the plural and remove the G, it does sound like it.
[6] too salty! lol
actually, the title itself is too salty
Good puzzle tonight! The searching is even easier than I thought; the puzzle samples those who made a more recent appearance.
Recent appearance, ancient appearance, it's all the same to me, I've never seen *any* of these. I'm just working off the lists on WP. And I'm still short three answers: the fur coat, the no-Gs, and the one with a car bumper and a tool for punching holes (I found one with the tool at the end, but I don't see how the bumper on the front fits).
[32]
a) "type of coat" + "character (not Stimpy)" + "type of Datsun" - say them real fast
b) "car (or woman) accessory shown" + "tool" - bleed them together
c) see [33]
great puzzle. great theme. once i figured which era we were dealing with, it was cake.
Could of been done an hour ago if I could spell!!!!
[37] Thanks. Between your hints and regexp matching on the lists on WP, I got them all. (There are two lists on WP, that between them seem to be comprehensive. I copied both of them and pasted them into vi, and then just ran regexps on what patterns I saw.)
Most were a stretch, at best, to solve without help. [40] is correct! Once you knew what you were looking for, it was just cut and paste.
Not much fun at all.
Anyone notice the add next to the puzzle? When I was working on the puzzle it was the rifftrax.com ad for T***********!
This was before I had the theme. Then we got the theme, and then we noticed the ad.
Eeeew. Not a fan of this one. Never heard of any of 'em.
Roll out and.......
Misspent youth is good for the theme, but you'll need to know the more recent works for the answers..
good puzzle
[43] Me neither, BS! This was wayyyy more my younger brothers' thing.
[42] That and the theme put together had me finish fairly quickly. Up until I saw the ad I had no clue.
Great puzzle due to the theme, loved it!
Great "Weird Science" reference on the rodent one!
i have all but the obama/case one .
any salt????
I am just one away from finishing... Top left across.
The guy with the guitar & umpire. I'm pretty sure
I know what the crossing letters are, but I can't
find anything that fits. Salt?
Okay, I found it. It was not on the wiki list I was using.
Does anybody have some salt for the top right one (scoreboard and man)?
[53] You got the first syllable right. Next, American poet (one syllable). And for the 3rd syllable, what is that person about to do on the door? He's probably doing that because there are no Bells, Bells, Bells.
Thanks for the salt cyncat!
This puzzle made me realize I didn't know how many of these guys there were! I wasn't able to find a very comprehensive list of all of them, but I was able to piece together guesses and Google helped me to confirm some of the tougher ones.
Too old for this one - slog through the list...
Wow - that was a total slogfest. Glad some people enjoyed this...
LATE SOLVERS
===========================================
Very VERY loose pronunciation in the puzzle, destroying a nice theme.
You can slog through the entire list, but the most recent ones are from the movie, and you can get most of them from:
