  19. Try_4Sailboatsnork on Mar 14, 2008 07:21 PM

Any salt on 6 or 10?

Edit: OK, got 6, still trying to figure out 10. Who is that guy?

  20. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Mar 14, 2008 07:20 PM

LOL. Wow. Well, oddly enough, I wasn't sure how to spell it, so I just mistyped it into Google, and Google came back "Do you mean XXXXXXXXX XXXXX?" with *the exact spelling in this puzzle* :)

But yeah, I see it now. Definitely spelled differently on other fairly official sources.

    NOBODY CORRECT IT YET!!!! :)

  21. FileAcescarver on Mar 14, 2008 07:19 PM

  45. FileCheeseburgerQurqirishDragon on Mar 14, 2008 07:31 PM

For the questionable spelling one- is it one or two Ns? I'm sick of repeatedly changing this as I check the one answer I don't have - which happens to be #6.

  46. FileCarrotwarrenzevon on Mar 14, 2008 07:32 PM

I am also unable to master the ruin of #6

  47. FileApplewmshub on Mar 14, 2008 07:32 PM

    Ahhh! Can't get #10!

And yes, the star trek one is definitely misspelled.

  48. FileCheeseburgerQurqirishDragon on Mar 14, 2008 07:34 PM

  58. ImagesCarrotPlayer on Mar 14, 2008 07:38 PM

    TYPO-

Sorry for this, I really tried to get everything right but it looks like most of you are figuring it out.

I do hope those that have finished the puzzle enjoyed it. If/when I do another I’ll triple check the spelling, maybe I’ll even quadruple it!

  59. Try_4Sailboatsnork on Mar 14, 2008 07:39 PM

[53] [54] Whoo-hoo! Thanks! I have them all now, and they all fit!

  61. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Mar 14, 2008 07:39 PM

    SALT for #10:

Hooper: You were on the Indianapolis?
    Brody: What happened?
Quint: Japanese submarine slammed two torpedoes into our side, chief. It was comin' back, from the island of Tinian Delady, just delivered the bomb. The Hiroshima bomb. Eleven hundred men went into the water. Vessel went down in twelve minutes. Didn't see the first shark for about a half an hour. Tiger. Thirteen footer. You know, you know that when you're in the water, chief? You tell by lookin' from the dorsal to the tail. Well, we didn't know. `Cause our bomb mission had been so secret, no distress signal had been sent. Huh huh. They didn't even list us overdue for a week. Very first light, chief. The sharks come cruisin'. So we formed ourselves into tight groups. You know it's... kinda like `ol squares in battle like a, you see on a calendar, like the battle of Waterloo. And the idea was, the shark would go for nearest man and then he'd start poundin' and hollerin' and screamin' and sometimes the shark would go away. Sometimes he wouldn't go away. Sometimes that shark, he looks right into you. Right into your eyes. You know the thing about a shark, he's got...lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eye. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be livin'. Until he bites ya and those black eyes roll over white. And then, ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screamin' and the ocean turns red and spite of all the poundin' and the hollerin' they all come in and rip you to pieces.

Y'know by the end of that first dawn, lost a hundred men! I don't know how many sharks, maybe a thousand! I don't know how many men, they averaged six an hour. On Thursday mornin' chief, I bumped into a friend of mine, Herbie Robinson from Cleveland. Baseball player, boson's mate. I thought he was asleep, reached over to wake him up. Bobbed up and down in the water, just like a kinda top. Up ended. Well... he'd been bitten in half below the waist. Noon the fifth day, Mr. Hooper, a Lockheed Ventura saw us, he swung in low and he saw us. He'd a young pilot, a lot younger than Mr. Hooper, anyway he saw us and come in low. And three hours later a big fat PBY comes down and start to pick us up. You know that was the time I was most frightened? Waitin' for my turn. I'll never put on a lifejacket again. So, eleven hundred men went in the water, three hundred and sixteen men come out, the sharks ttook the rest, June the 29, 1945. Anyway, we delivered the bomb.

    Damn, I love that movie.

  62. Current.deal.avOnionmonocle on Mar 14, 2008 07:41 PM

ok... now I'm only stuck on #8. I don't even know who that is.

  63. FileCarrotwarrenzevon on Mar 14, 2008 07:42 PM

[63] boy, you are one fast typist!

  64. AvatarSailboatjjcool on Mar 14, 2008 07:42 PM

[63] that is seriously one of the great monologues in film history.

  65. FileAcescarver on Mar 14, 2008 07:43 PM

[64] pardon the language but it will take Hale of a clue to get. And I apologize for swearing like a Navy sailor.

  66. AvatarDuckiesteph_frolin on Mar 14, 2008 07:43 PM

[63] That belongs in the movie quote thread and you know it! Anyone else getting deja vu on this theme? I swore we'd done it before, but I couldn't find it in the archives.
    Is it just me?

  67. FileCheeseburgerQurqirishDragon on Mar 14, 2008 07:47 PM

The salt I've seen for #6 seems to be quotes from the film, or something similar. Unfortunately, I don't get the reference. Any other help possible? (or am I wrong about what has been given...?)

  68. FileGrapesBig on Mar 14, 2008 07:45 PM

[54] The birthday party you didn't know about...

    [50] Spielberg bites!

  69. ImagesCarrotPlayer on Mar 14, 2008 07:45 PM

  70. FileEggplantmrrlobo on Mar 14, 2008 07:46 PM

  74. Current.deal.avOnionmonocle on Mar 14, 2008 07:48 PM

thanks for the salt. I got them all now... and in time to squeeze out a few bonus points even. I was not expecting digits.

  75. FileGrapesBig on Mar 14, 2008 07:48 PM

GREAT puzzle. Had fun with this.

  76. New_scout_logoCheeseburgerscoutmom on Mar 14, 2008 07:48 PM

    [69] #6 or #10?

  77. FileBananarenfurdson (Tanga Admin) on Mar 14, 2008 07:49 PM

    [44] Hey, Tangans.

I had every intention of correcting the misspelling here as previously stated, but I can only add rows and colums to the end edges of the grid, not the beginning ones. So I can't add one letter to the FRONT of the Star Wars word, only to the end.

Way too many other words to move, then.

So no correction, sorry. But there's plenty of salt here, and I'm glad to see people are still enjoying this one.

  78. FileBananamwb66 on Mar 14, 2008 07:50 PM

    salt on 8

  79. FilePepperslobeavis on Mar 14, 2008 07:50 PM

numbers in a crossword puzzle? that's a first for me unless they are roman numerals.

  80. ImagesCarrotPlayer on Mar 14, 2008 07:50 PM

[78] If you try here for #6 and know the name of the movie it will mention the name you need.

    http://www.imdb.com/

  81. ImagesCarrotPlayer on Mar 14, 2008 07:51 PM

[81] Yes there are numbers! :o)

  82. FileBananarenfurdson (Tanga Admin) on Mar 14, 2008 07:51 PM

Okay, I changed the title. This should help.

  83. FileAcescarver on Mar 14, 2008 07:52 PM

[80] Mac, go look at [67] and [81]

  84. ImagesCarrotPlayer on Mar 14, 2008 07:52 PM

    [79] Thanks for trying.

  85. FileCheeseburgerQurqirishDragon on Mar 14, 2008 07:52 PM

    [68] #6. I have others.

[82] If I knew the movie, I'd be done already. IMDB is one of my favorite sites, and not just for Tanga.

  86. ImagesCarrotPlayer on Mar 14, 2008 07:54 PM

[87] Do you know the actor?

  87. FileGrapesBig on Mar 14, 2008 07:55 PM

  93. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Mar 14, 2008 08:01 PM

[92] ?? It says first word. Maybe you need to refresh :)

  94. FilePumpkinBigSlick on Mar 14, 2008 08:02 PM

[81] There have been numbers in hypercrosses before. I think I even remember some punctuation once or twice.

  95. FileCheeseburgerQurqirishDragon on Mar 14, 2008 08:03 PM

Thanks for all the help. Once I finally got a starting point, it, of course, came out easy. I still don't get the birthday reference, but at least the one I was stuck on was my only mistake.

My worst fear was that after all the help, I'd find out I had it, and another was wrong.

  96. ImagesCarrotPlayer on Mar 14, 2008 08:05 PM

[97] My worst fear happened, a TYPO! with my first puzzle.

  97. Phi3CornPhilana on Mar 14, 2008 08:06 PM
