  3. FileAcescarver on Apr 30, 2008 07:06 PM

    This puzzle takes the cake.

  4. AssetsSailboatkayvon on Apr 30, 2008 07:06 PM

Excellent puzzle! Took me a while to get the theme, but not too long! Pretty easy once you've got the theme. That's the recipe for a good puzzle in my book.

  5. FilePepperslog on Apr 30, 2008 07:07 PM

    Who's in #9?

  6. AssetsSailboatkayvon on Apr 30, 2008 07:08 PM

[5] He was in "Pure Luck"

  7. ScottOnionoberjt on Apr 30, 2008 07:09 PM

    40th...... SWEET! :)

  8. Hermit_crab-206Garlichwango on Apr 30, 2008 07:10 PM

argh, who is the person in #9?!

  9. FileEggentropy on Apr 30, 2008 07:11 PM

    Fun puzzle. Loved #1!

  10. FileAcescarver on Apr 30, 2008 07:13 PM

    [8] Ed Grimley.

  11. FilePepperslog on Apr 30, 2008 07:11 PM

    Thanks, [6].

  12. FilePepperdajagr on Apr 30, 2008 07:11 PM

If it weren't for the salt on #9, I'd have come up...

  13. Phi3CornPhilana on Apr 30, 2008 07:11 PM

    Lovely puzzle!

  14. FileEggentropy on Apr 30, 2008 07:14 PM

    [10] That's it by Jiminy!

  15. OctopusPeppercomishcraig on Apr 30, 2008 07:16 PM

I'm not certain that I'm correct on #14, Any salt?

  16. FileClockJewelia on Apr 30, 2008 07:16 PM

Loved the puzzle and the theme, but must confess: I still don't "get" the title.

  17. Hermit_crab-206Garlichwango on Apr 30, 2008 07:17 PM

    Thanks [6] and [12].

  18. FileClockJewelia on Apr 30, 2008 07:18 PM

[8] and [15] The actor is David Boreanaz (sp?). You need the first name of the character he was playing.

  19. AssetsSailboatkayvon on Apr 30, 2008 07:17 PM

    [16] Ditto. Still confused.

[15] The vampire on the left is played by David Boreanaz.

  20. OctopusPeppercomishcraig on Apr 30, 2008 07:20 PM

[19] got it. Thanks. I too don't understand the title.

  21. OctopusPeppercomishcraig on Apr 30, 2008 07:20 PM

[19] got it. Thanks. I too don't understand the title.

  22. FilePepperhairy_lime on Apr 30, 2008 07:20 PM

Nice one. I have to admit that I was halfway thru before the theme clicked.
Solved all 4 puzzles tonight in 12 minutes ... a very different experience than the previous two nights!

  23. FileRocketAveOscuro on Apr 30, 2008 07:21 PM

    #14 was a bit of a toughie

  24. FileDuckiedavey3 on Apr 30, 2008 07:22 PM

Solved it, but I don't understand the title.

  25. FileRocketAveOscuro on Apr 30, 2008 07:28 PM

The theme comes from a popular shirt design
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Edit: Actually comes from the video game "Portal," the shirt is just a spinoff.

  26. FileRocketAveOscuro on Apr 30, 2008 07:23 PM

Search " the (theme of this puzzle) is a liar"

  27. Calvin_adviceGrapesdtaylor77 on Apr 30, 2008 07:24 PM

    fun puzzle!

  28. FileTomatotlmitch7 on Apr 30, 2008 07:26 PM

I googled 'David Boreanaz' and got a naked picture of him, lol.

  29. AssetsSailboatkayvon on Apr 30, 2008 07:27 PM

[28] Great! Now try using imdb.com. (Seriously. Besides, an "image search" wouldn't really help anyway.)

  30. SouthparkPepperTahnan on Apr 30, 2008 07:27 PM

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure I get the title, either. At least, I haven't really played the game it's from. But since "the ____ is a lie", with the relevant theme word in the blank, gets over 500,000 Google hits, I figured at least some people would recognize it.

Anyway, glad to see that people seem to like it.

  31. FileAcescarver on Apr 30, 2008 07:28 PM

[28] wouldn't that be more buns than cake?

  32. FileTomatotlmitch7 on Apr 30, 2008 07:29 PM

I didn't search on the image, it just came up, kind of opposite from what they were looking for on that one.

  33. FilePepperpepperhead on Apr 30, 2008 07:31 PM

man just took forever but I liked it good puzzle

  34. Hermit_crab-206Garlichwango on Apr 30, 2008 07:34 PM

[30] I haven't played it either, but I have so many friends who have who have quoted that bit that it did eventually click for me. If I'd been able to recognize the guy in #9 this would have been one of my fastest hypercross solves ever. Fun one.

  35. FileClockJewelia on Apr 30, 2008 07:35 PM

[30] Thanks for explaining! Ironically, the first site I went to sells the shirt and the product description is headed "Pushing Obscure References To Another Level"! ;-)

  36. TommyPeachtomgrom on Apr 30, 2008 07:50 PM

    i feel dumb asking...but who's in #3?!?
Edit: never mind i got it and i am dumb

  37. FileCheeseburgerSydneyHeart on Apr 30, 2008 07:44 PM

    Scrumptious puzzle!

  38. FileTomatobcgrote on Apr 30, 2008 08:09 PM

It's not a lie! It's NOT, it's NOT, it's NOT!!!! It's delicious and it's my FRIEND! Not the disembodied voice trying to make me solve puzz - oh. Never mind....

  39. FileApplediandneo on Apr 30, 2008 08:16 PM

I'm stuck on the bricklayer. Any help?

  40. FileSailboatdagibbs on Apr 30, 2008 08:21 PM

[39] thanks for the salt on #12!

  41. FileTomatotlmitch7 on Apr 30, 2008 08:25 PM

Need 6 and 11. NM: Just got it. [39] Don't worry about the bricks

  42. FileApplediandneo on Apr 30, 2008 08:29 PM

Well, I'm still confused. What was the salt I accidentally dispensed?

    Edited: I am soooo dense.

  43. FileClockJewelia on Apr 30, 2008 08:37 PM

[42] We are all as dense as bricks once in while!

  44. Sc002a57f6Pumpkinrunart on May 01, 2008 03:22 AM

    me want sugar after this.

  45. FilePotatogoingboeing on May 01, 2008 06:54 AM

    Missed the red velvet.

  46. FileApplemutilatedlips on May 01, 2008 07:24 AM

Cool puzzle, too bad Tanga won't let me rate it.

  47. Avatar_profileKiwichonyjr on May 01, 2008 08:06 AM

    missing 6, 11, and 19 any salt?
just 6 and 11 finally able to recognize what was in his hand

  48. FileBananatheChony on May 01, 2008 10:48 AM

[47] Sure thing, son. The mythical creature is from a foreign film, you want the English title.

The other symbol is a foreign currency.

And now I get the title and theme. That's what I get for playing that game in French.

  49. FilePumpkinJohn on May 01, 2008 02:41 PM

    Well clued all around. Thanks!

  50. Avatar_profileGrapesJadtheGerbil on May 01, 2008 03:38 PM

    This puzzle was a triumph.

  51. FilePlumTIMMAY on May 01, 2008 04:31 PM

Will the companion cube be next?

  52. Avatar_profileAppleRavis13 on May 01, 2008 07:03 PM

I am only missing one. I have no idea what #19 is :(

Ok. I figured it out. For some reason it looks deceptively flat to me. I did not realize that it was spherical!

  53. Avatar_profileAppleRavis13 on May 01, 2008 06:52 PM

The reference is indeed from the game Portal. The AI that you are competing against promises [keyword] if you cooperate with her near the end of the game. The [keyword] is a lie because she was just trying to tempt you from continuing on.

  54. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on May 14, 2008 03:06 PM

GREAT puzzle. Terrific theme and some wonderful clues. I especially love 1, the 5&7 combo, 12, and, of course, 16.

Also, the cool lateralness (is that a word?) of 3 and 4.

  55. Brownie_sundaeGarlicbrownie1 on May 10, 2012 09:27 PM

    My kind of puzzle! Mmmmmm................
