Excellent puzzle! Took me a while to get the theme, but not too long! Pretty easy once you've got the theme. That's the recipe for a good puzzle in my book.

[8] and [15] The actor is David Boreanaz (sp?). You need the first name of the character he was playing.

[16] Ditto. Still confused.
[15] The vampire on the left is played by David Boreanaz.

Nice one. I have to admit that I was halfway thru before the theme clicked.
Solved all 4 puzzles tonight in 12 minutes ... a very different experience than the previous two nights!

The theme comes from a popular shirt design
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Edit: Actually comes from the video game "Portal," the shirt is just a spinoff.

[28] Great! Now try using imdb.com. (Seriously. Besides, an "image search" wouldn't really help anyway.)

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure I get the title, either. At least, I haven't really played the game it's from. But since "the ____ is a lie", with the relevant theme word in the blank, gets over 500,000 Google hits, I figured at least some people would recognize it.
Anyway, glad to see that people seem to like it.

[30] I haven't played it either, but I have so many friends who have who have quoted that bit that it did eventually click for me. If I'd been able to recognize the guy in #9 this would have been one of my fastest hypercross solves ever. Fun one.

[47] Sure thing, son. The mythical creature is from a foreign film, you want the English title.
The other symbol is a foreign currency.
And now I get the title and theme. That's what I get for playing that game in French.

Ok. I figured it out. For some reason it looks deceptively flat to me. I did not realize that it was spherical!

The reference is indeed from the game Portal. The AI that you are competing against promises [keyword] if you cooperate with her near the end of the game. The [keyword] is a lie because she was just trying to tempt you from continuing on.

GREAT puzzle. Terrific theme and some wonderful clues. I especially love 1, the 5&7 combo, 12, and, of course, 16.
Also, the cool lateralness (is that a word?) of 3 and 4.
