This one was very clever--I liked it a lot! I'd like it even better if I could figure out the across second from the bottom (gazette, little house??). Any salt on which synonym for gazette we're looking for, and what that structure might be?

EDIT: Got it! Very satisfying. This is a puzzle where it's possible the google bar with auto suggestion fill-in might be of service.

    Thanks for the nice puzzle!

  2. FileAcecontrerasjoe on Aug 22, 2007 07:12 PM

[1] What does the Gazette contain?

Any hints on what to call the steer like animal in between the eye and the L?

  3. FileTomatoMurdoctor on Aug 22, 2007 07:13 PM

[1] The most generic synonym, and note that the little building has no windows.

[2] It's hard to tell in that little picture, but it has thick fur.

[2] That animal? Man, I could just talk on and on and on and on about that animal.

  6. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Aug 22, 2007 07:16 PM

    Fun.

  7. FileGarlick1w1 on Aug 22, 2007 07:16 PM

The structure is not for the living.....

  8. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Aug 22, 2007 07:22 PM

(and how did YOU pick your screen name?? - I didn't see you post in the Saturday Tanga Time. It's not too late

  9. Avatar_profileRocketchatterbox on Aug 22, 2007 07:23 PM

    That was enjoyable!

  10. FileAcecontrerasjoe on Aug 22, 2007 07:25 PM

    Thanks, [5]

Now to my last one, I thought I knew what that red wooden thing was but alas I was wrong. Any help on that one?

  11. Jeff_simpsonGrapesflinx on Aug 22, 2007 07:27 PM

[10] It's used in the game of golf.
    - i'm stuck on the duck.

  12. Almost-sold-out-product2OnionDrewO on Aug 22, 2007 07:29 PM

I solved it but I still don't know don't know what the animal is...

  13. FileAcecontrerasjoe on Aug 22, 2007 07:29 PM

[11] Doh, I was thinking of those stupid Cracker Barrell games that they put on every table. Thanks!

  14. FileEggmnemonica on Aug 22, 2007 07:32 PM

Long but easy answers make me feel smart.

  15. FilePepperdajagr on Aug 22, 2007 07:42 PM

I notice that the shortest one breaks the pattern slightly (it's more written rather than pronounced...) But a nice puzzle overall!

  16. Avatar_profileApplekswitz on Aug 22, 2007 07:49 PM

loved it! And spelled them all right the first time. :)

  17. FileRocketfeydjm on Aug 22, 2007 07:59 PM

I got it. But I still don't get the duck...

  18. AvatarApplebagherra on Aug 22, 2007 08:03 PM

MAN THAT WAS AN AWESOME PUZZLE!!!!
I had to check my spelling on a couple, but top notch!

  19. FilePlumlseelba on Aug 22, 2007 08:18 PM

At first I thought it was going to be too easy, but there was from fun word play in there!

  20. FilePlumlseelba on Aug 22, 2007 08:20 PM

[17] The duck is easy if you know your animal sexes.

For example a female sheep is a ewe.

  21. FilePearjulesfordale3 on Aug 22, 2007 08:34 PM

ugh... write the word... not what you see jules!!! Doh!

Seeing how I mispelled the very first one!!! too funny!

  22. ApparatusGrapesApparatus on Aug 22, 2007 08:41 PM

Nothing is coming to mind for the 2nd and 3rd from the bottom across. None of the salt is cooking for me either.

Nevermind, got them. Not sure I really enjoyed this puzzle.

  23. FilePotatoDevin8r on Aug 22, 2007 09:16 PM

    The mausoleum has me stumped.

Never mind. I got it right after I posted. The female sheep would have been better than the gazette in that one! MANagable puzzle, though. In fact, it was MANificent.

  24. PaxStrawberrymrsgottrocks on Aug 22, 2007 10:06 PM

ARGH! The second one down has me stumped. What is that piece of hardware called?

  25. Tanga-pink-avatarBananaMorganza on Aug 22, 2007 10:06 PM

What does "You got it! But we're not going to save your answer." mean?

  26. Tanga-pink-avatarBananaMorganza on Aug 22, 2007 10:07 PM

[12] talk, talk, talk, chat chat, chat, blab, blab, blab...

  27. Avatar_profileGrapesKtCallista on Aug 22, 2007 10:10 PM

[24] When you need something to hang onto you can grab that hardware.

  28. Avatar_profileStrawberrysilgado106 on Aug 22, 2007 10:18 PM

    Nice puzzle :)

  29. Avatar_profileGrapesShanni on Aug 22, 2007 10:22 PM

    You da man!!

  30. FileAppleqwertyca on Aug 22, 2007 11:04 PM

What is that doll thing in the orange shit?

  31. FilePumpkinJohn on Aug 22, 2007 11:31 PM

    *cough* shirt?

    That's Barbie's man.

  32. Avatar_profileStrawberrysyracuselaxfan on Aug 23, 2007 04:03 AM

I got the animal between the eye and the L and saying it over and over still isn't making any sense to me.

[edit] Got it using a crossword solver. I was using the emPHAsis on the wrong syLAble

  33. Avatar_profileGrapesshrapnel on Aug 23, 2007 08:08 AM

I was a little frustrated by my alternately-spelled (but valid) homophones for the doll word and the Makita word. I spent the most time on the one with the animal and the 'L'. Even with salt it took me a few minutes.

  34. Dsc00024Applesandstar on Aug 23, 2007 08:45 AM

    That was a great puzzle!

  35. FileKiwijgoewert on Aug 23, 2007 09:24 AM

Woot! Or should I say "Tanga!" I'm not in the top 1000 in points for 2007 and this month and I have only made 3 purchase.

Top 1000 of all time comming soon!

  36. Sparky_fullflame_01PumpkinTJSunDevil on Aug 23, 2007 11:17 AM

[25] that just means "click it again" for now

  37. FilePlumsjlee on Aug 23, 2007 11:34 AM

Still stuck on the gazette and mausoleum one... nothing sounds right to me.

  38. FileTomatoMurdoctor on Aug 23, 2007 11:55 AM

[37] Yeah, I knew that was going to be one of the most cryptic of the clues.

  39. FilePlumsjlee on Aug 23, 2007 12:33 PM

[38] How about some salt? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

  40. FileTomatoMurdoctor on Aug 23, 2007 02:03 PM

    [39] Newsflash: That WAS salt.

  41. Avatar_profileStrawberryGaryL on Aug 23, 2007 02:19 PM

[40] another newsflash: that was salt too :)

  42. FilePlumsjlee on Aug 23, 2007 03:17 PM

[39] Nevermind, I got it. The tomb/mausoleum picture finally got me the answer.

  43. FilePlumsjlee on Aug 23, 2007 03:18 PM

    [39] Sorry, I'm dense. Thanks.

  44. FileRadishBetaPrime on Aug 23, 2007 03:26 PM

I hate it when I know I got it all right but had a misspelling somewhere... Finally got it after checking it all over again. The duck is toughest for me... to me, that's a small dragon...

  45. FilePearmightyhelm on Aug 23, 2007 03:38 PM

Had a tough time with 1 down. Isn't that spelled wrong?
I thought it was 1 less letter and a different last vowel. Other than that, a rather fun hypercross.

  46. 1981709Sailboatjgf on Aug 18, 2008 01:25 PM

    #12 was delicious!
