This one was very clever--I liked it a lot! I'd like it even better if I could figure out the across second from the bottom (gazette, little house??). Any salt on which synonym for gazette we're looking for, and what that structure might be?
EDIT: Got it! Very satisfying. This is a puzzle where it's possible the google bar with auto suggestion fill-in might be of service.
Never mind. I got it right after I posted. The female sheep would have been better than the gazette in that one! MANagable puzzle, though. In fact, it was MANificent.
I was a little frustrated by my alternately-spelled (but valid) homophones for the doll word and the Makita word. I spent the most time on the one with the animal and the 'L'. Even with salt it took me a few minutes.
I hate it when I know I got it all right but had a misspelling somewhere... Finally got it after checking it all over again. The duck is toughest for me... to me, that's a small dragon...
Had a tough time with 1 down. Isn't that spelled wrong?
I thought it was 1 less letter and a different last vowel. Other than that, a rather fun hypercross.

Thanks for the nice puzzle!
[1] What does the Gazette contain?
Any hints on what to call the steer like animal in between the eye and the L?
[1] The most generic synonym, and note that the little building has no windows.
[2] It's hard to tell in that little picture, but it has thick fur.
Nice one, Murdoctor...

[2] That animal? Man, I could just talk on and on and on and on about that animal.
Fun.
The structure is not for the living.....
excellent as always Murdoctor!
(and how did YOU pick your screen name?? - I didn't see you post in the Saturday Tanga Time. It's not too late
http://tanga.com/blogs/967)
That was enjoyable!
Thanks, [5]
Now to my last one, I thought I knew what that red wooden thing was but alas I was wrong. Any help on that one?
[10] It's used in the game of golf.
- i'm stuck on the duck.
I solved it but I still don't know don't know what the animal is...
[11] Doh, I was thinking of those stupid Cracker Barrell games that they put on every table. Thanks!
Long but easy answers make me feel smart.
I notice that the shortest one breaks the pattern slightly (it's more written rather than pronounced...) But a nice puzzle overall!
loved it! And spelled them all right the first time. :)
I got it. But I still don't get the duck...
MAN THAT WAS AN AWESOME PUZZLE!!!!
I had to check my spelling on a couple, but top notch!
At first I thought it was going to be too easy, but there was from fun word play in there!
[17] The duck is easy if you know your animal sexes.
For example a female sheep is a ewe.
ugh... write the word... not what you see jules!!! Doh!
Seeing how I mispelled the very first one!!! too funny!
Nothing is coming to mind for the 2nd and 3rd from the bottom across. None of the salt is cooking for me either.
Nevermind, got them. Not sure I really enjoyed this puzzle.
The mausoleum has me stumped.
Never mind. I got it right after I posted. The female sheep would have been better than the gazette in that one! MANagable puzzle, though. In fact, it was MANificent.
ARGH! The second one down has me stumped. What is that piece of hardware called?
What does "You got it! But we're not going to save your answer." mean?
[12] talk, talk, talk, chat chat, chat, blab, blab, blab...
[24] When you need something to hang onto you can grab that hardware.
Nice puzzle :)
You da man!!
What is that doll thing in the orange shit?
*cough* shirt?
That's Barbie's man.
I got the animal between the eye and the L and saying it over and over still isn't making any sense to me.
[edit] Got it using a crossword solver. I was using the emPHAsis on the wrong syLAble

That was a great puzzle!
Woot! Or should I say "Tanga!" I'm not in the top 1000 in points for 2007 and this month and I have only made 3 purchase.
Top 1000 of all time comming soon!
[25] that just means "click it again" for now
Still stuck on the gazette and mausoleum one... nothing sounds right to me.
[37] Yeah, I knew that was going to be one of the most cryptic of the clues.
[38] How about some salt? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
[39] Newsflash: That WAS salt.
[40] another newsflash: that was salt too :)
[39] Nevermind, I got it. The tomb/mausoleum picture finally got me the answer.
[39] Sorry, I'm dense. Thanks.

#12 was delicious!
