Aug 22, 2007 Hypercross Puzzle

This one was very clever--I liked it a lot! I'd like it even better if I could figure out the across second from the bottom (gazette, little house??). Any salt on which synonym for gazette we're looking for, and what that structure might be?

EDIT: Got it! Very satisfying. This is a puzzle where it's possible the google bar with auto suggestion fill-in might be of service.

Any hints on what to call the steer like animal in between the eye and the L?

[1] The most generic synonym, and note that the little building has no windows.

[2] It's hard to tell in that little picture, but it has thick fur.

Now to my last one, I thought I knew what that red wooden thing was but alas I was wrong. Any help on that one?

Long but easy answers make me feel smart.

I notice that the shortest one breaks the pattern slightly (it's more written rather than pronounced...) But a nice puzzle overall!

I had to check my spelling on a couple, but top notch!

At first I thought it was going to be too easy, but there was from fun word play in there!

[17] The duck is easy if you know your animal sexes.

For example a female sheep is a ewe.

ugh... write the word... not what you see jules!!! Doh!

Seeing how I mispelled the very first one!!! too funny!

Nothing is coming to mind for the 2nd and 3rd from the bottom across. None of the salt is cooking for me either.

Nevermind, got them. Not sure I really enjoyed this puzzle.

The mausoleum has me stumped.

Never mind. I got it right after I posted. The female sheep would have been better than the gazette in that one! MANagable puzzle, though. In fact, it was MANificent.

ARGH! The second one down has me stumped. What is that piece of hardware called?

What does "You got it! But we're not going to save your answer." mean?

I got the animal between the eye and the L and saying it over and over still isn't making any sense to me.

[edit] Got it using a crossword solver. I was using the emPHAsis on the wrong syLAble

I was a little frustrated by my alternately-spelled (but valid) homophones for the doll word and the Makita word. I spent the most time on the one with the animal and the 'L'. Even with salt it took me a few minutes.

That was a great puzzle!

I hate it when I know I got it all right but had a misspelling somewhere... Finally got it after checking it all over again. The duck is toughest for me... to me, that's a small dragon...

Had a tough time with 1 down. Isn't that spelled wrong?
I thought it was 1 less letter and a different last vowel. Other than that, a rather fun hypercross.

#12 was delicious!
