Nice clues, though a lot of lookup. The years help a lot.

[3] If you are having problems spelling #6, spell it the way it is presented and google it with the year

sigh...got them...really really GREAT clues...just too dense to get them right away. I bit heavy on the look up for non historians, but overall good. Thanks scoutmom

Take the item you see, plus the letter at the end. Google that together with the year.

For 6, there's a memorial named for it in Wheaton

For those searching, Yahoo search refers to the battle, Google now has a reference to what was mentioned in [14] - named after the battle.

#6 is not spelled how it is pronounced. #13 is actually spelled out in the clue if you look closely.

Well, I have them all but the ampersand of #9 will not be recognized by the grid... so I can't finish.
I also have the smart quote/apostrophe problem.
Only seems to be a problem on Hypercrosses, not other puzzles. I am on a Mac.

liked all of them except #10, i have no idea what the guy in the mailbox is doing, and it has nothing to do with the answer.

Does #9 have an ampersand?
What do I do if it doesn't show up on the grid?

got them all but it's not taking. pretty sure it has to do with the spelling of #6. i tried the way the memorial is spelled among other variations. the actual spelling of the area has too many letters to fit.

[33], thanks for the idea: I succeeded with firefox. (Squeaked in at #100)
Seems like you have a misspelling. Feel free to TG me for a hint or two if you can't sort it out.

Due to the issues some people had with the "&", I have added that info to the Puzzle Maker Guidelines and Hypercross rules:

Here I was messing around with all kinds of different ways of entering #6 and all the while it was a misspelling in #11 that had me locked out!
Fun puzzle to research.
Good Job!

[28] concentrate on the arrows and what they are pointing at. You can get enough hints and ignore the mailbox. He's just a very sad man. If you concentrate on the red arrow, that should give you enough hints to google something.

Same issue with the '&'. Stink.
Clarifying:
Stink to the technology fail, not the puzzle. Loved the memorial.
