Newbie puzzle-solving question(s?)
Some phrases I’m seeing in the comments on the puzzles. Phrases which, though they might be perfectly clear to those who have been here for longer mean absolutely nothing to those of us who are new to the site. And yes, I’ve searched around the site trying to find anything that might explain them, with (of course, since I’m asking the question) no luck.
“Typical Tanga” and “Tanga Numbers” (which I’ve seen shortened to “TN”) are the two most common. It appears that it’s common to take words gotten from clues and somehow turn them into numbers, and then those numbers seem to refer back to other letters. Exactly (or even approximately) how this works is some sort of black magic, as far as I can tell.
Any clues will be greatly appreciated.

tanga numbers go on a standard decoder ring style of 1=a, 2=b, and so on. Hope that helps you out.
Tanga numbers can also refer to a letter in a particular word or phrase.
[2] Building on feydjm's comment:
WOOKIE(2) -> O since O is 2nd letter is WOOKIE.
Good luck!
Some other comments you might see are:
salt = a hint
drew = almost sold out
both of those came from the discussions.
Salt was the answer to an early puzzle and someone was trying to type in the answer, but instead put it on the discussion page, thus giving everyone else the answer. Since then they have moved the discussion to the same page as the puzzles and also allowed for editing of your own comments.
Drew is a tanga user. People used to write ASO for almost sold out and drew (I think) suggested we come up with a different name for it, thus people started calling it drew.
Those are two of the more common comments you will see.
There are lots of other little things you will see if you are on here much.
Another Tanga thing, correctly spelling "acceptable" is not aceptible. Thank you.
[4] Drew actually suggested that we find another name for ASO because those are his initials and he was getting confused. So, since ASO = Drew, we decided that Drew was perfect for it.
I've got a question what is meme?
Lost in the bowels of the discussion archive...

Thanks for the info, and now I'll go read the puzzler faq mentioned. :-)
[7] a meme is a unit of "cultural" information passed from person to person
basically it's like an inside joke that "grows" as people explain it to others, except it's not restricted to jokes. any type of information that is spread in this way can be considered a meme.
i would consider the term "meme" itself a meme, as it is explained every time someone refers to internet memes like "hamster dance" or "all your base" sites. personally, my favorite is leekspin.com. it's hypnotic! (and my ringtone)
more information here: (might be overkill though)

Also note, Meme isn't Tanga specific.
And it rhymes with "beam", not "ME! ME!"
Not to hijack the thread ... this kinda goes along with it ... where can I find the BGG thread everyone refers to? I found it once, but haven't been able to find it again.
The thread where the puzzles from Tanga are discussed on BGG is:

[13] Thanks. Bookmarked it this time.
