If you ever have problems with your order, we'll do everything we can to make it right.
As a small company (8 of us total), we aim to treat you like family. We know we’re in business because of you.
As part of our plan to add new things to Daily Fun, we’ve improved the look of the comments on Tanga.
Please post any comments here!
Hot darn, this looks nice.
avatar images will be back in a few minutes.
Any chance the user names could be moved to the top of the posts? It's more user friendly to see who the author of a post is without having to move your eyes to the bottom of the post and then back to the top to start reading, especially on the longer posts.
I'll second [3]'s suggestion. And on my screen (Internet Explorer on Windows XP), the width of the comments is limited, and so comments now take A LOT more room to display vertically. This will kill the scroll wheel on my mouse for long comment threads. In general, the new format looks good, but takes up way too much room, vertically. Also, it should be noted that the star Ratings controls and list of other puzzles from an author now appear above the comments, when they used to be below. I'll vote to return them to the bottom.
[3] We will put the username's back on top.
[2] Indeed they are!
[6] Yay!
interesting, confusing (at first), but very interesting.....
Bleh. I don't like it. Then again, move our names back up above the comments and move the ratings below and maybe it'll look better.
I also agree with [5] that I liked it better when they went wider. I have to scroll A LOT now.
Oh, also, there's no separation between 'Edit' and 'Flag this comment' - not even a space! Looks like one link instead of two since they aren't underlined and there's no space. And it'd be more compact (and easier to read, I think) if those links were on the same line as my name.
I do like that the pages are on the main 'General Discussion' page so you can navigate directly to the last page of a discussion if you want to. That's nice.
But special people like you and Arnott lost your gold bands! Why?! :)
And I don't like how small this edit box is. For us verbose folks, it makes it a pain to double check what we wrote before we post.
[6] Thanks Joe!
[11] On most browsers, you can expand the size of the text entry comment box. We'll look into making it bigger though.
Ok, that's getting better. Like the names in the box with the comments. Like it all being on one line. Wish the avatars weren't so tiny though.
[14] We'll make them bigger.
getting better, but still feels like I'm scrunched in the closet. The ad space is only slightly smaller[horizontally] than discussion box. And it's probably my computer, but I had trouble forward and backspacing and just moving cursor to another line to insert a word. I also like your comments highlighted; makes it easier to find you . maybe you can each have your own color? Hmmm, what is this formatting tips? I'm afraid to click it now because I don't want to chance losing my comment.
oh my gosh! I hit formatting tips after posting [16] Now I have greek uh geek homework! I need an interpretor[sp? er?]
[16] When you click on the comment box (and if you have javascript enabled), the comment box should get much *bigger*.
Everyone that didn't have an avatar is now a monkey.
Javascript? I don't even know if I have that. How do I know if I have that? Yes, I'm behind on this computer stuff. Way behind...............
[19] If you don't know if you have javascript, you have it. :)
Like the growing box space - thanks! Getting used to the format change. Still wish the total comment space was wider. Why all the dead white space on the side?
(And, yes, I know, I seem to recall us complaining about it going from narrow to wide on the last rework. So, we are finicky folk! :)
Ahh... I see you guys have a discrete "TANGA ADMIN" under you instead of the color-coded box. I liked the color-coded box better but maybe you guys don't want to stand out. :)
[21] Admin comments will also show up with a darker border :)
[20] Thanks for telling me I have it. Now I see what you mean.
I agree with [5] and would like the comments wider again.
I'm not fond of all the scrolling now required. I would like to see the format tightened up vertically.
[18] Big YAY from me. This was something I was gonna mention, maybe tomorrow or the next day. While I'm sure around 90% of user's posts are just a few quick sentences, I would guess around 95% of Moderator posts - especially mine - are multiple paragraphs.
Thanks for not making us have to scroll back and forth in that teeny little box.
It's nice to see people's full sized avatar (ie Arnott) in the new format.
This isn't exactly related to the discussion/comment format, but can we get HTML re-activated in our bios?
We condensed the comments a bit vertically.
[26] Yes, we'll do that.
[22] Yeah, I see that now. I like it. Now all you gotta do is make this all wider and you'll be down one complainer. :)
snazzy!
I really like how the "last comment by" is separated... and clickable.
Oooo, [26] I just noticed that, too. Cool.
This new formatting even makes the potato look better!
::ducks::
still not liking width. I think your bolder border needs to be thicker or more distinct color some of us older folks may have lousy eyesight.
[26] full size avatar? in my lousy eyesdighgt [see what I mean?] they are the same
[31] *evil eye look*
This format is also being used for the "Tanga Official Blog" -- and there, you lost all the graphics that would help tell people about sales, etc. I think the Tanga Official Blog should have graphics, even if they're not as big as before.
Well, I like it. Refreshing! :)
The new look is fine. What I still miss is the ability to refresh just the comments without having to refresh the entire page.
Still gettting used to the new look, but all in all I think I like it. I really like the new default avatar but it'd be nice if we could make the text wider (though judging from the earlier comments it must've been really bad. One idea: Could the avatars go to the left of the post? Half of the short post's height is due to the avatars...
Okay - one more comment: if I'm on a page reading the comments and stop halfway through and alt-tab to another window, when I come back the page jumps to the top of the comments again. Am I the only one getting this "feature"?
Edit: Okay, now I don't seem to be having this 'feature'. *shrug*
A general thumbs up! [30] I also like that the approximate time since the last comment was posted is listed, saving me a bit of mental arithmetic to decide if I've already viewed the latest comment.
uh. at the bottom of the pages that I can comment on where the Post Reply is on the right side, to the left where my avatar/name is it has (unpublished) what is that?
Is anyone else having trouble with tg's or is it just because I'm on vacation and using my phone?
When I read a tg in my email, it deletes the tangagram but leaves a notification.when I click on notification, it just comes back to the current screen. The x on the home page is covered by the support box, so I can't delete the notification. When I reply to the email, I get an oops screen, probably because the tg was deleted.
not having problems. if a TG is deleted by the sender (i know this because of some history here) :)
and I click on the notice of the TG on the Tanga home page by right clicking it to a new tab all I get is the Tanga home page. so it's usually because the sender has deleted it, not me. I then resort to my e-mail to see the message.
[25] Any time I need to post more than a sentence or two into a text box, I open up a real text editor, write the text, edit it, rearrange it, or do whatever else I need to do to it, then just copy/paste it back into the text box. That way I have full text editing capabilities, and I never lose my text from a browser refresh.
Looks really sharp, TangaJoe! Nice job!
[40] It means that whatever you have been typing in the box just above that is not yet published.
So, TangaJoe, what font size is this? It's absolutely TINY! And the hyper seems particularly small-format as well. The hyper might just be me. But the default text is definitely smaller than it used to be.
POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH FORMAT
The numbers identifying each comment can look like tabs linked to the comment underneath the comment it's actually associated with.
I didn't mention it before as I thought it might just be me. But I've seen several other people make the mistake of 'linking' the comment below the one they intended. Sure, current users will adjust, but some proportion of new users will make the same mistake.
[47] It's especially challenging on the Random Questions since the background color is all the same - the posts, the block around the posts, the main background. I can't really see a border around each post either.
Then again, I don't think any programmers have looked at the Random Questions since 2007 so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the formatting is off... :P
Oh, and this font is still really small. Am I the only one having trouble with it?
[48] Well, I just got my prescription for reading glasses (yipes), haven't gotten them yet so I'm looking at this unaided... and I have no problem with the font size. FWIW, I'm using Chrome/Vista, so maybe it's displaying differently for you?
[47] Yeah, I don't really like the number in the bottom corner, either. And not for the reason you mentioned (though since you pointed that out, I can ONLY see it that way now, grumble, thanks a lot). I just think that's a counter-intuitive place to look... but I wanted to give it a week or so before I said anything, just to see if I'd get used to it. And I haven't.
I think I would like to it right after "Edit ǀ Flag this Comment" Or maybe just above that, but still "inside" the post window. Or maybe it'd be okay at the bottom if it were also inside the window.
[49] I'm using Chrome as well. And I can read it without leaning too close but it's noticeably smaller than the font on any other page: Google, Facebook, Youtube, Wikipedia, Onelook.
[26] Going back to the full-sized avatars in the comments: I notice that the avatar displayed for the discussion thread creator is not displayed the same as the avatars in the comments. It is either stretched or compressed (not cropped) to fit. Can we get that fixed so they look like the avatars do in the comments? (But with the appropriate size, of course). Edit: This looks to be fixed now, thanks!
I notice also that the discussion thread creator's avatar *on the main discussion page* is displayed like the avatars used to be displayed (that is, cropped when too big).
[50] While not an ideal solution, you have the ability to increase/decrease the font size on any web page. I'm not sure what the keyboard shortcut or menu option is for chrome. In at least one version of IE (the one I happen to be using now), you can go to View -> Text Size and select a size from there. You can also zoom in/out on the entire web page (not just increase/decrease the size of the text). Again, I'm not sure of the shortcut or command in chrome, but in this version of IE you press 'ctrl +' or 'ctrl -' to zoom in/out. Alternatively holding the ctrl key while using the scroll wheel on a mouse accomplishes the same thing.
Edit: Testing a potential HTML formatting bug with the new discussion format: This should be in italics. Will it format the below comments as well?
[51] ctrl + & - works in Chrome. And it must be just me, or at least, my computer and/or Chrome at home. Because it's fine here at work. But it started right when Tanga changed the formatting and it isn't a problem on any other website, so it's very strange.
[52] Sounds like it's definitely a PBKAC error.
I'll bite....what does that stand for?
[47] We'll be putting in a fix for this soon. Thanks for your suggestion!
[54] You know, Patanga, you don't have to bite. You could Google it and deprive Sy the satisfaction. It means "problem between keyboard and chair."
I just found an HTML formatting bug in the new discussion format. If I format my comment but forget to end the formatting, my extra formatting "spills over" to all the comments below mine. For an example see my [51] and all the comments below (including this one). Oh which reminds me, let me try to close the formatting here... So is the formatting gone? This is actually kind of fun... :)
[57] I don't know if it should be called a bug. In any event, it has always worked that way... in discussion forums, comments, TGs, etc. So yes, the moral of the story is to close your formatting.
[58] Or the moral is always start your own posts with formatting closers?
And if it's not a bug, it must be a feature, hooray! Formatting fun for everyone! :)
[59] Actually we "fixed" this once, but in doing so, the formatting disappeared at *every* line feed within a post, which was really irritating. And led to having to do stuff like:
< format tag > Blah blah blah blah etc.
< same format tag again > Blah blah blah blah etc.
< same format tag again > Blah blah blah blah etc. < / format tag >
We'll fix the unclosed comment formatting bug soon.
[47] [49] Permalink moved :) Thanks for your suggestions.
[63] I liked it better on the bottom... ROTFL
[63] Thanks - that looks great!
Oh, and I really like the BF changes. Particularly the links to navigate around. Very nice. Thanks for that too!
[65] Glad you like the changes!
I like the BF changes, too. Better navigation, and easier to read.
I was on vacation and guess I missed all the fun.
Too much white space for me.
I like the new BF revisions as well except that I can't see how many people picked the same numbers as me on the View Full Results page after the contest is over. One other person mentioned that as an issue in the comments section yesterday, but it appeared as if most other people weren't having that problem.. Am I missing something?
[69]
Am I missing something?
Oh, I can't believe you would post that on a site where you know I'm watching! So So many answers...............
When you go to the BF archives and look at yesterday's picks, under your pick is the number of people who also picked that number. A small amount of reading ability is required. I'm sure you can do it if a 13 year old girl can do it.
[69] My View Full Results is working! I wonder what's wrong with yours!
[69] The information on how many picked your numbers seems to be on a delay. When I looked last night, it did not show that info, but today it's there. This happened with Monday night's results as well. Could someone at Tanga confirm this functionality?
On the 16th it doesn't even show my numbers picked. Maybe I screwed up the entry somehow or didn't make any picks for that day. If the latter, perhaps Sy should see if there are any open rooms available for me : ). Everything looks ok for dates further back. In the old version if you didn't pick any numbers for a day some sort of text to that effect was posted on the results page. If the new version doesn't have that feature it might be nice if it could be added back in.
[69] They should show up underneath each of your picks after the contest is over.

[72] There shouldn't be a delay, but we'll keep an eye on it.
At this moment (7:28 PST) the Bottom Feeder results page for last nights BF shows my picked numbers, but not the number of times the numbers are picked. Tomorrow, I expect it will show as in your link. That's the delay I'm talking about. Sorry, I can't put a picture in this comment, and I don't know where to put one for you to look at.
Further information on [69], [72], [75]: There's no "delay"; the problem seems to be just with IE 7, which doesn't seem to show the number of picks AT ALL. I went back a number of days in the BF archive, including way before the updates. The different results I had seen were because I have IE 7 at home, but I have IE 8 at work (though both are Windows XP). The problem is not just my home computer, as Chrome shows the number of picks fine. So, my problems were just because I have a crappy older version of IE - who'd a thunk?
[76] "So, my problems were just because I have
acrappyolder version ofIE - who'd a thunk?"There, I fixed that for you.
I don't have IE. My computer automatically recognizes it as a virus and deletes it.
[77] Actually, "So, my problems were just because I have
a crappy older version ofIE - who'd a thunk?" is the needed fix there. "Crappy IE" is redundant on it's own.[79] Touché.
I have not been able to Post after editing a TG. I have been able to do this in the past and I do not know whether it is a temporary glitch or not.
Edit: just testing that I can edit here.
Second edit: no problem
I have a question regarding some of the really old blog threads, and even some of the puzzle comment threads. I have noticed that there are often a large number of comments missing from these areas.
For example, this blog post:
http://www.tanga.com/blogs/137
It claims there are 138 comments, but none are visible.
And this (infamous?) puzzle:
http://www.tanga.com/puzzles/147-12-11-2006
It lists only 14 comments, however it starts numbering with 201 and it seems like there were comments before that first one (numbered 201).
Apologies if this is the wrong thread to attach this question to, but since it seems to be getting official attention, I thought I'd take a shot. Is this ancient tanga history gone forever, or are those comments hidden away somewhere?
[83] Thanks, fixed.
[84] Tanga history restored! Sweet! :)
And I know this was mentioned before somewhere - It can happen when editing a comment, the lower right link promo (currently the vacuum contest) can cover a majority of the Post button. It has happened to me many times since that link appeared, when I hit the contest link instead. Luckily it opens a new page and doesn't erase my post...

The Like what you are seeing? line at the bottom of each page is being truncated top and bottom.
