I can't find any reviews on this detector. The look of the thing is keeping me from purchasing it; it's really kind of dated looking, like something out of the 80's. RadarHAWK has other detectors that look more modern, so I'd rather purchase one of those, if I was going to purchase.
I have an older wireless detector. Just don't ask me what brand, because I haven't a clue at the moment. But, it does work well, and I don't keep mine in the window or the visor. Cops just LOVE to see those hanging on your front window, LOL. It's been referred to as a "ticket magnet" by some officers I know. I keep mine low in the front compartment between the driver & passenger front seats. Contrary to popular belief, the engine components don't interfere with the way the unit works, at least in my experience. Regardless, wireless is the way to go and I'd never purchase a corded again.
I did love one of the product comments on Overstock "Product Description:
Avoid speed traps with this RadarHAWK SBIII radar detector"...sorry, but if the vehicle(s) in front of you was/are not "shot" at by a radar gun and your vehicle is, you're nailed, period.
Yeah, we should all slow down a bit, but sometimes going with the flow is 10-15 mph above the limit anyway. It's nice to have an alert to let you know there's a possibility you'd get a ticket. Get out of your lane, get your foot off the gas, and for God's sake, don't jam the brakes fools...

Never owned one so have no idea what type of unit is effective or not. How about laser type radar?
None the less, drive slower, save gas!

"eight-direction digital compass"
Is it compatible with my old-school 4-direction maps?

Seems like it would have to be in the window to detect Laser.
