On a Windows box, the current iTunes version requires XP or Vista, due to the encryption strength, but these older iPods can still synch with older versions of iTunes/Win OS. Mac people have no worries here.
[5] What GENERATION is this ipod ? 4th Generation.
What was the approximate date it was first manufactured ? Broggi is correct.
Is the battery NEW ? Considering it is refurbished & half a decade old, I highly doubt it.
Does it come in it's original factory packaging ? Considering it is refurbished, I highly doubt it as refurbished items rarely ship in original packaging.
No matter what, though, I have always enjoyed my apple products. I have only purchased refurb stuff for about the last decade and ALL of it... 5 different ipods, 4 different computers and various other things... have all seen many days of constant use...
Thanks for your help guys. I'm a Woot person, and new to Tanga, can some of you tell me if Tanga is OFTEN vague with their descriptions ? I notice they talk a lot about the product in general, but not directly about the EXACT product that's for sale. In other words, with this iPod, they DON'T list generation, original packaging, new battery (or not), it seems like a lot of guesswork. I think they might sell more stuff if they gave more information up front.
I have one of these from a few years back, its a solid iPod, never had any problems with it. One thing folks havent thoughtm of though, is that its also a 60gig USB memory stick. sof or the price its a great deal.
"or, based on what that information is, they might sell less..."
LOL, good point, but I think that's what THEY think, so they are vague, but imo they are hurting themselves. I am tempted to buy one, but the thing that concerns me most is the condition of the battery, because I hear they can be costly to replace and that you may not be able to do it yourself.
Is there a way to find out the condition of the battery by any chance ? Do they CHECK IT when they refurb it ? Is there a way to easily contact Tanga and get an answer ?
[14] iPod batteries are neither costly or hard to replace. I bought one for my ipod a few months ago. It cost me about $17 and took me 5-10 minutes to install. Most places that sell them even have video instructions on how to do it. I think I bought mine from www.ipodbatterydepot.com, but there are a number of places that sell them.
Refurbished
Tanga must be cleaning out the warehouse to make room for more Sony Walkman Beans.

[1] Once again, thank you for pointing out what is clearly visible under "Specs"...we'd be lost without you.

[5] Considering they call it an iPod Photo, I'd say it was the 4.5 year old model. http://support.apple.com/kb/SP66

The battery question is a good one. I'd want to know for sure before purchasing.
That seems rather a high price to me.

Just my humble opinion.

But yes, their descriptions are usually pretty vague. The best info usually comes from posts in these comments.

I've had mine for 3 1/2 years and the battery still lasts about 6 hours on a charge.
