An excellent two player game. It is more of a "puzzle" than a true war simulation but it is still a blast. My friend Derrick and I have played it on several occasions and it never ceases to entertain.
Make sure to try and play a "campaign" of missions over a course of sessions, with varying weather. Lots of fun, and a great price really.
[13] I couldn't find any recent rear box shots, but the most recent rules have "Made In Germany" so I'm hoping that production was shifted for the 2nd Edition.
Anyone know what the mold status is on this edition? Or tanga's return policy for such a situation? I want this game, but the horror stories have me second guessing the deal. I am also lazy and not up for drying, wiping, spraying, venting, etc a game I will end up paying $30 for.
Okay, found on geek z-man said in Nov that new edition was shipping mold free, apologies all around and was a regrettable situation for an excellent game.
Thanks V_Bob. Always good to have a second opinion.
Like I said, the game sounds great, but half the discussion the geek is how to salvage your 1st edition copy.
Glad to hear thats not a problem anymore.
Has anyone heard how the 3-5 player variant plays? I like having a few 2 player games, but if it expands well and isn't shoehorned in, then I can get more people in on it.
Yea, that mold problem had me on hold for a second "mold -free" edition to avoid my allergies. I've always wondered why Z-man would sell a mold contaminated product, and not return the contaminated product to the manufacturer or shipper for replacement/reprinting?
cigarman2k6 - As I understand it, the manufacturer wouldn't own up to it, claiming it occurred in shipping. The publishers hands were tied, unable to prove anything. They ended up taking a big lost with that first run.
I am glad they did a second printing (diff printer!) and stuck with it. Zed said he was sorry that the moldy 1st editions were the worlds introduction to a great game.
[22] Don't worry...you should have this in time for Christmas 2010. (My purchase of Skyline 3000 from two weeks ago just reached the Billing Information Received stage....only 2 weeks to go until it actually gets mailed).
This is a good price on this game...I have the original (moldy) edition and all of the expansions but I have not been able to bring myself to play it...since even the manual is covered with mold. So I cannot prove it is a good game but it did catch my interest. I just can't seem to make myself buy a new copy of it here...but I'll probably never play the original moldy one. Catch 22.
As for this game, EXCELLENT deal, however (I might be having a Bingo moment), the historic period is such where the Allies lost their moral compass. I will play it when it's on the table, but not for my shelf, not for my collection.
I've only bought a couple of games from Tanga before but my shipping time was reasonable. Maybe I'll get lucky again. OTOH for a $30+ savings I can be extra patient. :) And it's not like I don't have other games to play!
Glad to hear about the mold problem going away. That was holding me back initially, then a lack of funds. But the ever brave and resourceful "mother-unit" offered to get it for me and who am I to turn down a gift, even if I did have to go through a chemo treatment to get it? Thanks Mom!
[32] I was NOT (intentionally) making fun of him. Really, in historic games, I tend to enjoy playing "The good Guy", and in Duel in the Dark, well...
you are ether the BIG bad guy, the Axis, or the good guys doing bad things (The RAF bombing runs were of dubious effect, having little to do with 'national industrial targets' and all to do with retribution for being buzzbombed. Understandable, but...)
But having said that, it -is- an amazing 2 player game, and there are dammed few of those.

wow... this is really tough to pass up... anybody live around ann arbor in Michigan?
Anybody in Rockville/Bethesda/Gaithersburg wanna split shipping on one? I'll probably order one shortly regardless...
Ordered mine. Looks too good to pass up.
Is this gonna stink like my 1st edition copy?
I may have to burn my first edition copy; I feel choked up whenever I get it out of the box.
[13] I couldn't find any recent rear box shots, but the most recent rules have "Made In Germany" so I'm hoping that production was shifted for the 2nd Edition.
In for two.

Such a good deal, if there isn't any mold.
Okay, found on geek z-man said in Nov that new edition was shipping mold free, apologies all around and was a regrettable situation for an excellent game.
I am in for 1.
2nd edition has not had stink/mold issues - you are safe
i'm buying . . .

After a long long absence from Tanga purchases I pulled the trigger on this one. Sounds like a real fun game, can't wait to play it!

Crap. I bought one before I knew what hit me.
anyone want to share shipping to new york city? Let me know
I wish Tanga showed you how many copies are left for sale.
Resisted for two days. Gave in this morning and got one.
[24] Indeed so. Shipping is...a test of patience.
And I have about run out.

Anyone in around Charleston, SC want one?
[29] nicely tweaked.
“My grandfather (who lives!) fought under the iron hand of the axis in this area. Sorry but this game is a little too close for home in my family .”
