Seems like sticking a magnet into your computer is probably a Bad Idea. Is this really safe? I'd be in if someone can vouch for it.

Expandable magnetic tipped tools are a great accessory for your household or garage tool box. However, I wouldn't use one to go rooting around inside my computer. Magnets and computer parts don't mix.

You can usually find these near the checkout at the auto parts store for the same price. The deal is fair.

As long as the magnet is strong, these things are great for around the house (not in your computer).

There are far more powerful magnets inside each hard drive. Just google hard drive magnet. Flash drives are non-magnetic, so are also unaffected by ordinary magnets. So this would be perfectly safe to stick in and around your computer. I stick screwdrivers with magnetic tips inside computers all the time, and many times get paid for doing so.

Yeah. The only real danger is if you have some old, unshielded hard-drives, or if you get the magnet near some floppy disks. Otherwise, magnets can't hurt your computer (not one of this strength, anyhow. If you get your system too close to an active bulk eraser, you will erase the harddrives.)

maybe im slow but where is the shipping in this deal

[6] Listed right under the sale price. It's about $3.

[4][5] So there's no damage potential on things like chips and video cards and the like? Naturally I'm not planning to rub it up against exposed hard drives, but the presence of strong magnets elsewhere in the system doesn't necessarily mean that sensitive parts are safe from direct contact from a weak magnet like the one for sale.

My question is if such parts exist.

I was going to get a couple of these , one for the garage and onefor picking up stuff that I drop under my desk as Im getting too old to go under the desk anymore to retreive small screws and stuff like that lol , and I may get one for the laundry room to as you are all the time Dropping stuff behind the washer and dryer . Just a thought is all :) . BTW if your a Mechanic these would be great to have on hand too. As you can keep them in your pocket or in your Toolbox, to pick up screws and bolts , that you may have dropped down in the engine just out of reach or off the garage floor . And for nails too . To keep them out of your tires :)
Just a Suggestion is all
Denim :)

Magnets don't affect electronic components like transistors, resistors, capacitors, etc. The only real worry inside your computer is if you're dumb enough to work on it with the system still powered on and short-circuit something by touching it with a piece of metal like this. (Or theoretically if you touch a capacitor in there that's still holding a charge even though the system is off.)

It's like 3 weeks later and I'm still waiting.

Is anyone else still waiting for theirs to show up and getting a little curious?
