You will never know if these are good unless you buy them. I have used many brands of radios at conventions in the past and only the Motorola talkabouts were worth a damn. Then where a different style then these but in general Motorola makes good 2 ways.

Question for the Tanga folks... 4 AA batteries. Is that per radio?

As for quality, I got these last 'thon and have been using them for the past week. They work very well, and range/voice quality are good.

The good news: My fiancee no longer has to shout down the stairs into the basement/mancave.

The bad: I can no longer pretend I can't hear her.

I love my Motorola Talkabouts. Buy these; you will not be disappointed.

Do you have to have an FCC liscense to use these? I am thinking about giving as Christmas presents to nephews, but don't want to incur extra monthly fee expenses on their family. In other words, can these be used as walkie talkies for the kids and then as a communication device for the family if they go to an amusement park just to keep up with each other.
