I got one of these for my son last year from Woot for $50.
He uses it to play all his guitar hero games on PS2.
guitar hero
guitar hero II
guitar hero III
Rock band
Rock band world tour
Guitar Hero 5
Guitar hero Van Halen
Guitar hero Aerosmith
maybe another one or two
This unit is nicer than the one amazon has for xbox. This unit is just like his real guitar without the strings and the buttons added on the neck.
I just bought this guitar from Tanga two weeks ago and love it. It works with Rock Band 2 and Beatles Rock Band. If you are going to play a fake guitar, it might as well be made of real wood.
I bought this product I can never make it through a entire song without it losing the connection. Has anyone else encountered this problem? It is virtually unusable. I would love it to work but at this point it is going back.
Bought this for my son. Nice novelty item. He says it looks good and feels good. The action on the buttons is pretty heavy though. He hopes it losens up in time or he's going back to the little plastic guitar.
Bought the guitar and I love it. Out of the box, it sucks hard. But all you have to do is take the top 5 buttons off, 2 screws then 5 screws, and place little bits of card stock between the plastic button and the rubber pad beneath it. two layers of card stock works well, 3 may be to much but that's up to you. The buttons are just so hard to push down and by doing this very simple mod, it makes it so much nicer to use. The guitar is a bit heavy but looks and feels real badass. I would definitely recommend this. And this does work on Guitar Hero World Tour for PS3. Enjoy!
I just wanted to say that I bought this as well and have no complaints. I don't know what you are referring to KStringer25 as far as a problem with the buttons. Perhaps you got a lemon, especially if only one set of buttons has this problem. Then again this is the only guitar controller I have used for these games so I can't compare it to anything else except a real guitar.
Also I have used it with all my music games from as old as GH Aerosmith to the latest GH5, GH Smash Hits, GH Metallica, GHVH, and Rock Band 2 and Rock Band ACDC as well. It works with everything I have tried on it. I am using a PS3 though and what games it works with may vary slightly on PS2. I say that due to other things I have read regarding other game hardware not this guitar. Just FYI :)
It was both sets of buttons. I just didn't feel the need to take the bottom off too. I've read other reviews and people have said the buttons are hard to push down so I'm not alone here. If you have not played with one of the standard guitars your probably right in thinking nothing is wrong. However, once you get up to some of the harder levels and bump it up to hard or expert, you start missing tons of notes just due to the button not being compressed completely.
Thanks for the heads up on the buttons... yeah they're really stiff which makes it harder on the faster songs. I just put card stock under all the buttons and about to test it out!
I want to try this to see the difference but I can barely get the set by the headstock out far enough to access the screws to open up the cartridge deal containing the buttons. The set closer to the body the wires are way too short to do this. Did you have to cut then splice the wires?
Oh and I already tried removing the pickguard and it seems to be glued as well as screwed to the body.
Noobie, you would have the first on I've heard of with the pick guard glued, did you take the bridge off first? The pick guard is tucked under it and the fretboard. Once you do get it off there is lots of extra wire inside the body, but you MUST take the pick guard off to feed it through.
I got this guitar after looking at the comments on Woot, they mostly seemed to think it needed the shims to be usable. When I got mine, I thought the shims were really only a part of the problem, there is just too much slop in the buttons, so if you aren't pressing the middle of the button, it won't really hold contact. My solution was to take the buttons off, wrap teflon tape all the way around the bottom and the flange of each button. Two wraps of teflon tape will seem too thick at first, but press it in, it forms into the gaps, and slides like, y'know teflon. I also shimmed the buttons with two layers of electrical tape.
While I had it open, I disassembled the sloppy strum bar and wrapped the pivots on it with plenty more teflon tape.
Now the guitar has a pretty good touch, buttons are quiet instead of rattly and it plays any game on ps2 or ps3. If I could replace the cheap tilt sensor(s) it would be worth 4x this price.
Embarrassed to say I did not remove the bridge as I thought the pick guard just wrapped around it and not under it. I will try out your suggestions when I get a chance.
I still don't see how the buttons seem stiff or hard to depress as others are describing though. Mine have very light springs and very easy to press down all the way with no effort. Just like every other I have handled in stores, to compare. My strum bar seems to be loosening up though and I would prefer less slop in it. I may try your suggestion about the teflon tape on that.
Hasanyne ued this on a PS3? I m interesed in buyin it but I have had a few guitars advertse they ar good with both PS2 & PS3 but ultimaty they are ony good on one and suck on the other. Ples let me know if it orks with your ps3.
Anyone know if these are compatible with later versions of the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games than listed?

wow, quite a collection your son has! but there is no rock band world tour. do you mean rock band 2 or guitar hero: world tour?
yea, whatever world tour. I can't keep up with them. Walmart.com has the track packs on sale for $20 now, reg $30. Found the deal on dealnews

What a great product...a real guitar..but for Guitar Hero...can it get any better?

Thanks KStringer25 that is good to know. Well at least if I need to I now know the cure for the problem. I appreciate the input.

Oh yeah! Much sweeter and for $35! Way cheaper than just a regular wireless...
