    Mechanic is rock-paper-scissors eh?

I'm sorry, I just can't accept that panda thing going on

Reviews of this actually look decent and getting three games that I can play solo for $26.00 isn't a bad deal. I think that I'm going in for one.

[2] I saw that in the BGG description too, but after reading through some of the reviews, I don't see where that mechanic would come into play?

[6] In the video that [3] posted, Tom Vasel says that one of the monsters makes you play rock paper scissors with it, if I remember right.

These games were reviewed in the Winter 2009 issue of Gamers Alliance Report. You can find the review here:

The video ([3]) is REALLY helpful – everyone should watch it! (Thanks, markta!)

And a “thanks” to ajlo ([7]) for pointing it out again and making the clarification, otherwise I may not have given this a second look.

I have a slightly better opinion of the game after watching that video, and a much better understanding of how it looks/works. IGNORE that stupid “Rock-Paper-Scissors” listing in BGG! The mechanic is basically DICE driven - much like Dungeoneer! Like in many games, some cards are “special” and have unusual mechanics (for humor or for variety), and some numbnut took a “special” and made it sound like a fundamental game mechanic. Someone should try to fix that on the BGG.

I have Dungeoneer, and like the idea of creating a tiled dungeon (which this game by-passes), so I think I’ll pass on this. But the game doesn’t seem as silly/goofy as I first thought it was. But I still don’t like that stupid panda thing. And it sounds a little dull for my “2 player” tastes; it sounds like it’s basically a solo game where a 2nd person might be needed to facilitate/optimize the games mechanics.

I've been wanting to try one of these for the better part of a year now. $27 for all three is a great deal.

An RPG style game that only requires two players? And it can be played solo?! Sign me up!

oops. I apologize for my stupid post then. If i could edit my post I would.

Someone should remove that from BGG because it makes it sound like the mechanic is the core of the game versus just a very very very small part of the game.. one card to be exact?

[9] To be honest.. that panda was the first strike for me as well.. it kinda creeped me out somehow.. weird

  12. FilePumpkinDisreputable on Thu Mar 18, 2010 03:26 PM

[11] no need to apologize; i read what you read, from the same source, and was thinking the exact same thing. from the looks of it, the BGG page is steering people wrong.

i dunno if it's only 1 card with the R-P-S thing, but the mechanic focuses on dice (d6 and/or d8 from the video example).

saying this game operates on a R-P-S mechanic is like saying that the mechanics for MtG involves flipping/dropping cards over your opponent’s hand (like how that Artifact card, the Chaos Orb, works).

This post is unrelated to the current game offering, but I got my copy of Robo Rally today that I ordered last Friday! Six days from ordering the game to it showing up on my doorstep. I know that Tanga has taken a lot of abuse for their shipping times, but I really think that is on a case by case basis. I have purchased some items from Tanga in the past that took a little while to ship, but never anything extraordinarily long. I just wanted to give Tanga some props. When I saw UPS coming up to the door today, I was amazed.

[9] [13] Thanks, also love the MtG reference... that gave me a chuckle. I have a couple Chaos Orbs... what a funny card.

[14] I just complained about not getting Skyline 3000, and indeed, got RoboRally yesterday.

    STILL WAITING FOR SKYLINE.

Up until it was delivered, the status for RoboRally was "Billing information received"

    WHAT THE HELL?
