Interesting, Settlers was my first board game years ago and I haven't picked it up in a little while. This could be motivation - depending on the comments and/or impressions that follow.
Settlers is an awesome game, so awesome that, although tired of it, I still bought it. Then I realized that I didn't like the 4th edition, so I found the third edition. And the expansion of course. Cities and Knights adds a lot to the game, and I am not tired of it at all, so I bought it as well. I think the expansion to Cities and Knights bogs down a bit, but I bought it anyway, just to be safe and make sure I had a 3rd edition set if I ever wanted one. Now this board is on Tanga. Though, as previous discussions have mentioned, the pieces don't make sense for Catan, some have suggested they go into Agricola, and this seem sensible. But the board looks awesome, so since I am already tricking out my Catan game by going 3rd rather than 4th, I might as well get this, so I did.
Settlers is an awesome game. You will want to play it so much that you will get sick of it. Even then you will play it because it makes an ideal way to get your friends introduced to eurogames so they will play the scary/crunchy games you want to play. Even once they become Ubergamers you will play it, because by then the thing will just be so darn nostalgic.
Settlers is an awesome game. Is this comment/impression sufficent yet? Just go and play a game, or three, already! Why are you still reading this, go play.
Wait, how does one easily keep the wood pieces hidden? With the cards, it's easy (face down or hold). How does one do robber steals? Plus, even with these wooden pieces, you still have the Development cards you still have to use. Am I missing something?
[4] The idea is that you no longer keep resources hidden, since you can track what resources people have, if you have a good memory. Many people choose to play this way, even with the cards, to minimize the importance of memory, when it's tangential to the point of a game.
If you don't like that idea you can just hold them under your hand. I agree though that not having that information is obsolete and when it comes to the robber place your resources in both hands shake them up and drop out a piece.
[2] Thanks! I actually already have the game, just wondering if this Yucatan board is worth it for someone that hasn't played it recently. Not sure which edition, I bought it in 2006.
[8] Oh, I thought you were looking for motivation to pick your board up and play, not pick up the new fancy board, whoops. You should definitely do the first, or you'll forget all your l33t ski11z.
I've had this board for some time and mine is starting to warp. I believe there are instructions on how to best store the board (which I payed no attention to)....just make sure you take note of that to keep it from warping.

I really liked the Yucatan board -- used it for the first time last weekend even though I've had it since the last Tanga offering.
Sure beats my ham-fisted friends knocking the tiles out of alignment :\

Me, I'd just use the cards, too.

It is amusing to watch someone play monopoly and get nothing . . .
That card becomes quite broken, I think, though, when you eliminate forgetting what people got five turns ago.

From the mayday site, it seems like this board isn't the best bet if you're planning on using it with the 4th ed and don't have any expansions.

Is this a 48-hour deal?
has anyone had to exacto knife their board a bit to make the hexes fit?
