    Wow - 9:30 early tonight!

Now if only I could figure it out!!!

... so much for a head start :(

  2. Avatar_profileEggplantjammer1001 on Sun Jun 10, 2007 06:39 PM

feeling stupid tonight... seems like standard procedure, but where to start...

  3. FileStrawberryPenh on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:09 PM

Uh-oh... I wandered off to do the easy one and the hypercross, figuring there'd be some hints around when I came back. Not a good sign....

  4. FileRaspberrydsmeyer on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:11 PM

Numbers are Tanga, but maybe not standard tanga.

  5. Avatar_profilePeachcantaloupe on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:11 PM

It took you 10 minutes and 41 seconds to solve this puzzle.
You were the 3rd Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

I usually suck at these, but it's a lot easier than you think it is.

  6. FileDuckiedavey3 on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:12 PM

    * It took you 2 minutes and 18 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    * You were the 2nd Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

That was cool ... a well crafted puzzle!

[2] - it is fairly standard for tanga

  7. FileStrawberryPenh on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:15 PM

    # It took you 31 minutes and 20 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    # You were the 7th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

D'oh! I would have sworn up and down I'd tried that earlier, but I guess not. I hate when I do that!

  8. FileRocketPhantaCComics on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:16 PM

Seems easy but I'm not catching on. Will come back after some dinner, maybe a little fuel will help the old brain.

  9. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:24 PM

I've been applying tanga numbers for almost an hour now
    :(
    to all different "keys"

    I'm just not seeing it!
    edit
    [10] grrrrrr

  10. Avatar_profilePlumsignasl on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:24 PM

    # It took you 16 minutes and 56 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    # You were the 8th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

Ok I have some serious mixed emotions here. First top 10 every but I guessed the answer and have NO idea how to solve it.

  11. FileGrapesxpsdude on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:27 PM

[10] Same here. Guessed the answer and trying to backsolve

  12. Avatar_profilePlumsignasl on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:28 PM

[11] If you figure it out, give me a clue.

  13. FileRocketzebrakb on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:30 PM

    # It took you 20 minutes and 59 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    # You were the 11th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

I have no idea why that is the right answer, though it was one of the first things that I think of when I think of isthmus, but why would I put the first thing I thought of in for the answer! That and I live near Madison, WI, where there happens to be a well known isthmus.
    Now to try to backsolve!

  14. ApparatusGrapesApparatus on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:31 PM

[11] Ditto. Wife took a wide guess and solved it. Not sure yet how to backsolve myself yet.

  15. Avatar_profileBananabamfette on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:31 PM

ok, I get how to get the answer from the puzzle, but the answer is only marginally related to the in-puzzle salt.

  16. Avatar_profilePlumsignasl on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:31 PM

Someone that solved it without guessing give us some salt.

  17. FileClockmust67 on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:32 PM

    same here

  18. Avatar_profilePancakesrandomcyn on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:33 PM

Another guesser here. Time to backsolve...

  19. Avatar_profilePearmundane on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:33 PM

Don't get hung up on 'isthmus'. Just apply the tanga numbers to the things you received on the 12th day.

  20. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:34 PM

    [13] zebrakb
    Thanks!
That did it for me, even though it shouldn't have!

    Got it backsolved
    off to BGG

  21. Avatar_profilePearmundane on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:36 PM

    More salt on BGG.

  22. FileRocketzebrakb on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:37 PM

    [20] Welcome!
I finally backsolved it, and it seems like that might have taken a lot of work to figure out for the puzzlemaker!

  23. FileClockmust67 on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:38 PM

    12 drummers drumming?

  24. Avatar_profilePlumFermiDisciple on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:40 PM

    # It took you 4 minutes and 49 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    # You were the 28th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

My mom and I had a lot of fun performing the key for our family when I was young.

  25. Avatar_profilePlumFermiDisciple on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:41 PM

    {{ double post }}

  26. Avatar_profilePlumsignasl on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:45 PM

Ok now I see it and I must say very cool.

[23] FYI. On the 12th day you get more then just drummers drumming.

  27. FileClockmust67 on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:46 PM

It would have been nice to have a christmas themed answer

  28. Avatar_profileEggplantphurballdj on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:46 PM

Grr...."Isthmus?" Bah. I went off and found the widths of well-known isthmuses (isthmi?) and was trying to rank them.

    Don't do that.

  29. Avatar_profilePancakesrandomcyn on Sun Jun 10, 2007 07:52 PM

Aha. Backsolved, and yeah, that must have been a tricky puzzle to plan. Well, maybe not so much if you chose the solving method before choosing the answer.

  30. FileGarlicHope2002 on Sun Jun 10, 2007 08:07 PM

Guessers...why would you guess that? It's two different things. If we were talking about synonyms I would get it. Oh well.

  31. FileRocketzebrakb on Sun Jun 10, 2007 08:11 PM

[30] Actually I guessed it because they were not synonyms. That was how I remembered what an isthmus was in geography class, back in the day! And so I figured, why not pop it in the answer box to waste some time while I scratched my head!

  32. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Sun Jun 10, 2007 08:12 PM

    [30] Hope2002
Well, when it first popped into my head, i dismissed it because it not "right".

As to why it popped into my head? Mysterious the ways of the mind...

  33. FileGarlicmartinp13 on Sun Jun 10, 2007 08:21 PM

    # It took you 1 minute and 27 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    # You were the 76th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

Hooray, 1st top 100. :) Of course, I had to guess to get it. Third guess was right. Now if I could just get far and away past the "easy" puzzle. :(

[30] Because Google told me to.

  34. FileSailboatDAbrames on Sun Jun 10, 2007 08:51 PM

Well the salt helped me guess, but I have not been able to figure out the backsolve.

  35. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Sun Jun 10, 2007 08:53 PM

    [34] DAbrames
Mundane left some really good seasoning on BGG
    http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/1544594#1544594

  36. FilePotatoDevin8r on Sun Jun 10, 2007 09:10 PM

Guessed the answer in 16 seconds. Too tired to backsolve...

  37. Tog6Pumpkinprincessproton on Sun Jun 10, 2007 09:14 PM

    # It took you 7 minutes and 56 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    # You were the 100th Tanga member to solve this puzzle. (My first...100th!!!)

Salt free goodness. I liked this puzz. Cool method.

  38. Thunk_logo_colorPotatofachanlahd on Mon Jun 11, 2007 08:07 AM

Doh... The answer came into my head immediately when I saw the word "isthmus" but I didn't think it was going to be the answer. I saw that it was the answer after solving the first three letters.

Neat puzzle though...I like the solve method.

  39. FileOnionJohn on Mon Jun 11, 2007 09:05 AM

Not sure what you consider the authoritative source for this puzzle's key, but I've heard a lot of versions... which weakens this puzzle a bit.

    Nice work though!

  40. FileDuckiespamwise on Mon Jun 11, 2007 10:01 AM

[39] If you "View solution" you'll see my sources.

Yes, I agree there is the chance for disagreement, however, if you use only those that are most universally accepted (say, 1 through 6 or so) you can get close enough to be confident.

  41. Avatar_profileKiwiSilverSabre25 on Mon Jun 11, 2007 10:06 AM

Huh. I guessed it right after figuring out the key. Trust me, if you can't guess it, then the numbers are used in a pretty standard tanga way. I'm amazed that the creator figured this out. Wow.

  42. Avatar_profileOrangefgc666 on Mon Jun 11, 2007 10:19 AM

[30] is right, synonym is not a good word to use for us people who are nit-picky about definitions :) cool puzzle, especially tying the answer to a clue that can be used in the puzzle's theme

  43. Avatar_profileGrapesJasonLP on Mon Jun 11, 2007 11:21 AM

    Cool how that worked out!

  44. FilePlumsjlee on Mon Jun 11, 2007 12:50 PM

Ended up guessing the right answer... however, I was able to backsolve it.

    Here's some salt...

"Isthmus" is not needed for the actual puzzle, but is the way most people probably guessed the answer.

Knowing the exact words to the song is necessary. Look it up on Wiki if you don't know them.

    Each ornament represents TWO things.

[39] How do you "View Solution" on the day of the puzzle?

  46. FileGrapestheokester on Mon Jun 11, 2007 03:20 PM

well...I got the word suggested by the ornaments/numbers, but I am still not getting the leap to the final answer. Doing many many google searches but I really don't want to just start punching in a bunch of random answers...any clues as to the connection to help my search be more effective?

  47. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Mon Jun 11, 2007 03:57 PM

    [46] theokester
GM me what you have (pbleadfoot at BGG) and I'll nudge you in the right direction...

  48. FileApplefsumarc on Mon Jun 11, 2007 06:36 PM

Why no points? It's still the active puzzle for the day...

  49. FileGrapestheokester on Tue Jun 12, 2007 08:01 AM

ugh...I had the right answer and input it a ton of times...must've had a typo in it or something. :( oh well

  50. Avatar_12-08Pancakesthreehojos on Wed Jul 16, 2008 05:19 PM

    guessed it too...
