my bro's friend told me what to do....i ignored him at first but he was right

  3. FileBananaahecht on May 31, 2007 07:03 PM

I call BS. That isn't a word, that's the second half of a one-word proper noun.

  4. FileGrapesxpsdude on May 31, 2007 07:05 PM

    Okay...That was a bit strange.

  5. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on May 31, 2007 07:06 PM

well, as usual, i am befuddled :-(

  6. FilePlumSpanky on May 31, 2007 07:07 PM

    [3] your right !!!! I checked their site.....It IS one word !!!!.

  7. Tog6Pumpkinprincessproton on May 31, 2007 07:10 PM

[6] In the context of this thread, you literally just spelled out the answer...

    Edit: not anymore, thx.

  8. FilePlumSpanky on May 31, 2007 07:13 PM

[7] Sorry, Edited. Didn't realize what I was doing was giving up all the info. Just got a little too frustrated.

  9. ApparatusGrapesApparatus on May 31, 2007 07:14 PM

I have to agree with [6]. The word used is used in the context it would be a 2nd half of the word. Seemed like a clever idea for a simple puzzle but would have been better to have chosen a different word/letter.

  10. FileGarlicMrPlow99 on May 31, 2007 07:24 PM

I'm not calling some phone number. You can keep your tanga point.

  11. FileSailboatDAbrames on May 31, 2007 07:30 PM

So how much is Tanga costing them?

This is not really even a puzzle. It's as if I said "Go outside and look up, what do you see that starts with S?" That's instructions and a quiz, not a puzzle per se.

  12. FileRadishThosw on May 31, 2007 07:37 PM

How funny. My mother works there.

  13. Avatar_profileGrapesJasonLP on May 31, 2007 07:39 PM

    Got it, but WTF?

    [3]
    No kidding...

  14. FilePlumSpanky on May 31, 2007 07:44 PM

    Well, after pondering a bit.........

Actually, I think the "correct answer" is part of being a puzzle. Its the first word that starts with W that you can "FIND"
    hmmmmmmm..........

  15. FileRocketfeydjm on May 31, 2007 08:13 PM

I have to agree with [11]. They are paying for everyone of these phone calls. If they wanted this as part of their marketing campaign fine. But if it was unsolicited, I think it was a poor choice.

  16. FilePeachdiehard4life on May 31, 2007 08:24 PM

Do we have to call this number to solve the puzzle? Yes or No. I am tired of all the double-speak, but I will not call a number to solve it...

  17. FileRocketPhantaCComics on May 31, 2007 09:14 PM

Straight answer to [16] I tried to Google the 800 number, in both word and numerical form (PUZZLE and 789-9537) hoping it might lead to the answer but even knowing the answer before going on that Google quest I still couldn't find the answer without actually calling the number.

    *edit, added content below*
Even going backwards from the Answers website I couldn't find this phone number, reverse look up in the yellow pages wasn't getting me anywhere. Short of calling this number or being told the answer I don't know how you could get the answer.

  18. FileDuckiedavey3 on May 31, 2007 09:22 PM

If I have to call that number, forget it. I also tried using Google to find some info on the 800 number, but didn't come up with anything useful. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow night to find out what the answer was.

  19. FilePearjulesfordale3 on May 31, 2007 09:38 PM

I have to say... not a good puzzle! I have to boycott sorry!

Hence.... NO POINT FOR YOU JULES

  20. BatsmallSailboatAshe2000 on May 31, 2007 10:03 PM

I have to say that was lame.

  21. Tog6Pumpkinprincessproton on May 31, 2007 10:54 PM

I really wanted the answer to this puzzle to be "won".

  22. Avatar_profileStrawberrysyracuselaxfan on Jun 01, 2007 01:56 AM

that was the first word i typed in

  23. Thunk_logo_colorPotatofachanlahd on Jun 01, 2007 04:34 AM

    Booooooo! Hisss.

  24. FileGarlicspamwise on Jun 01, 2007 04:37 AM

In my quest for the answer, I got blocked by my work's firewall. Here's the message I got:

Your organization's Internet use policy restricts access to this web page at this time.
    Reason:
The Websense category "Sex" is filtered.

I'm not even sure I want to know what this word is... :O

  25. FilePepperChupper on Jun 01, 2007 06:46 AM

This isn't a puzzle, this is busywork. BOOOOOOOO.

  26. FilePlumSpanky on Jun 01, 2007 07:37 AM

[21] Ha ! I just got ya. You should be right. That's much more clever. Oh well.

  27. Avatar_profileBananaDJKuulA on Jun 01, 2007 08:26 AM

    Bad idea.

    Really bad idea.

    Unless someone needs a mortgage.

  28. FilePlumsjlee on Jun 01, 2007 09:31 AM

Just got the answer... and yes, it does help to call the number. In fact, I don't see how you could get the answer without calling it.

It's a toll-free number, plus you can hang up after 2 seconds... unless you're interested in a home loan.

I agree, however, that it technically is the second half of a word.

  29. FilePumpkincherylo on Jun 01, 2007 03:09 PM

[28] you're right it's toll-free. Which means the phone number you call from ends up on their phone bill. Even if you religiously block caller id and such. They get the phone numbers that call them, because they are paying for the call.

I did it, out of curiosity, which I admit. But now I wonder if I just added my number onto somebody's spam dialing list. Sigh.

  30. Avatar_profileRadishrmcelroy on Jun 01, 2007 11:02 PM

    Boo. Not a good puzzle.

  31. 11111Radishzestyonion on Nov 30, 2007 12:36 PM

That's a good way to remember a number that I actually need!

  32. FractalTomatodduensing on Oct 22, 2009 06:05 PM

I don't know if the answer is solvable anymore after all these years.....calling the number now gets you to "Bank of America Home Loans"

  33. Parrothead1GarlicWastinAwayAgain on Oct 22, 2009 02:21 PM

    [32] I agree - I guess we're just a little late to the party.

  34. UntitledCarrotBattler on Jun 02, 2010 02:18 PM

Hey, I figured it out!! After calling and hearing the number was a no longer used number for Bank of America Home Loans, I realized that it was probably for a bank that was acquired by BofA in the last 3 years. Since I'm in the industry myself, I took the salt in [3], and realized what organization they acquired in that time. Huzzah!! I earned these 3 points for sure.

  35. FractalTomatodduensing on Jun 02, 2010 04:43 PM

[34] thank you for the TG. Got it.

The company was bought out by Bank of America on April 27, 2009, according to Wikipedia.

If you do figure out the old mortgage company, use the second half of the compound word in the company's name as the puzzle answer, as [3] stated.

To further help you, this company had spun off its investments into a company called "IndyMac Bank", which was seized by the federal government on July 11, 2008, after a week-long run on the bank.

You should be able to google some of the above facts to get the answer. In my case, I googled "IndyMac spawn of" and read the first link to see the answer about half way down the webpage.

    Awful puzzle.

  36. FileDuckiePatanga on Jun 28, 2011 03:14 PM

God.....got it from the comment advice....terrible idea for a puzzle. I would never have phoned to get the answer.
