The letters I have definitely would not spell a word. I wonder if there is a mistake with this puzzle..

    Yeah, I got nuthin...

  7. Tog6Pumpkinprincessproton on Dec 20, 2007 07:22 PM

  14. New_scout_logoCheeseburgerscoutmom on Dec 20, 2007 07:32 PM

    [12] A tiny grain?

  15. FileDuckieescKey on Dec 20, 2007 07:36 PM

[14] can I sponge off whatever salt you get :-)

  16. New_scout_logoCheeseburgerscoutmom on Dec 20, 2007 07:37 PM

  17. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Dec 20, 2007 07:40 PM

Can someone sprinkle a little salt on the sidewalk...it's a little slippery out here!

  18. FileBananarissa2sassy on Dec 20, 2007 07:42 PM

Any salt on how to solve this?

  19. AvatarDuckiesteph_frolin on Dec 20, 2007 07:45 PM

Just put them in order...there are many ways to put things in order, just ask the Jackson 5

  20. Avatar_12-08Pancakesthreehojos on Dec 20, 2007 07:46 PM

    WhooHoo!

  21. FileEggGamesX4 on Dec 20, 2007 07:50 PM

  22. Avatar_profileWatermelonltbaxter on Dec 20, 2007 07:48 PM

    (First top 100, woo!)

Not too hard, really. 'Order' may not mean what you think it means.

  23. Avatar_profileRadishbork on Dec 20, 2007 07:49 PM

[19] I'm not sure what you mean, but yes, just like the jackson five

  24. FileDuckieescKey on Dec 20, 2007 07:50 PM

    Got it!!

Wish I'da got it earlier... 95th

  25. FileBananarissa2sassy on Dec 20, 2007 08:00 PM

[19] Thanks for trying to help me but I still don't get it.

You solved this puzzle in 56 minutes and 3 seconds and were the 104th Tanga member to solve it. You earned 10 points for solving this.

Salt for others, spelling it out is the first step, one more step involved...

  26. FilePumpkincherylo on Dec 20, 2007 07:49 PM

[19] Thanks, now I've got "A, B, C" running through my head taunting me, but still no solution.

  27. FileDuckieescKey on Dec 20, 2007 07:50 PM

    [25] spell it out

  28. FileGarlicmartinp13 on Dec 20, 2007 07:53 PM

Got it but don't get it.

  29. FileClockmust67 on Dec 20, 2007 07:55 PM

Murdoctor was the anagram just to make it hard?

  30. FilePepperpepperhead on Dec 20, 2007 07:55 PM

[24] dont keep ot to your self give me a hint

  31. Tog6Pumpkinprincessproton on Dec 20, 2007 07:56 PM

[29] Well, in all fairness, he did mention that in the instructions...

  32. FileRocketPhantaCComics on Dec 20, 2007 07:56 PM

very fine puzzle, I went down the wrong path and got nowhere. I hit the dead end and gave up for a bit. Upon returning to it the other path became clear and there was my answer. Just missed 100 though, 102nd.

  33. 200px-monarch_01Peachcagedsoul on Dec 20, 2007 07:59 PM

Still got nothing... I'm not nearly as clever as I like to think.

  34. New_scout_logoCheeseburgerscoutmom on Dec 20, 2007 08:00 PM

    [29]- the 2nd [29]
It's hard to give much more salt than what has been given. Let's just say it as: no one said anything about changing the numbers. Just put them in order with the letter that's already there.

Sorry if that's a bit obtuse.

  35. FileBananarissa2sassy on Dec 20, 2007 08:01 PM

[29] Spelling it out is the first step, there is one more step involved after that.

  36. FilePepperpepperhead on Dec 20, 2007 08:27 PM

Oi Vey when ya mess up a simple step it just goes down hill from there

  37. Avatar_profilePeachjimmiebjr on Dec 20, 2007 09:02 PM

Well, I tried it the easy way. Now I suppose I try the "different ways to apply numbers to letters" tricks until I happen across one that works.

  38. Club_liverpoolAppleJLRobert on Dec 20, 2007 09:04 PM

I have to remember to not bother when I see Murdoctor's name next to a puzzle. I come home to relax after a day's worth of thinking.

  39. Donimo_pirate_beatlesTomatoDonimo on Dec 20, 2007 09:26 PM

[29] Anagram? There was no anagram. No random anagram anyway. The instructions say to put them in order, and if you do that the word appears with no rearranging.

    Clear, subtle puzzle, IMHO.

  40. FilePotatoDoomDahDoomDoom on Dec 20, 2007 10:17 PM

You solved this puzzle in 1 hour, 1 minute and 49 seconds and were the 174th Tanga member to solve it. You earned 10 points for solving this.

Had to go solve a couple other puzzles before I could come back to this one. It's only "clear and subtle" once you get it, IMHO :)

  41. FilePeachWirelessFox on Dec 21, 2007 12:01 AM

[34] Thank you! That cleared it up for me. :)

Solved in 21 mins 33 seconds.

  42. FileGrapesStexe on Dec 21, 2007 12:54 AM

It is pretty easy, especially if you did the one yesterday (or 2 days ago). And if that isn't enough salt I have no idea what else would help anyone get it.

  43. FileGrapesStexe on Dec 21, 2007 12:54 AM

  44. FilePeachTorrin on Dec 21, 2007 06:03 AM

Not too bad when you start to try other ways that just the standard substitutions. And [34] helps lead you in that direction.

You solved this puzzle in 8 minutes and 11 seconds and were the 217th Tanga member to solve it.

  45. FileDuckiedavey3 on Dec 21, 2007 06:04 AM

I can't believe I fell for the same Tanga trick twice in one week!

  46. FileTomatoMurdoctor on Dec 21, 2007 06:11 AM

[29] The numbers are not in the necessary order in the puzzle, but there is a way to order them correctly where you do not need to anagram the answer. And that correct order also has to do with numbers. I took a little deviation from the regular solve methods, though it has been used before -- you can count on that.

[38] Aw, my puzzles aren't ALL that obtuse, are they?

  47. FileAppleragulo on Dec 21, 2007 06:18 AM

[25] and [35] seems way too salty in my opinion. Usually I'm ok with reading some of the salt in the comments, but after seeing that I felt like I was told the answer...

  48. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 21, 2007 06:30 AM

    [46]
I had to backsolve for the non-anagramming method.

    Subtle and elegant as always!
    Thanks Murdoctor

  49. SupcatAppleGamercat on Dec 21, 2007 08:15 AM

Why is it I'm able to solve all the others, including the hard one word; but this is driving me batty, even with all the salt? /sigh

  50. FileCheeseburgerQurqirishDragon on Dec 21, 2007 08:26 AM

My initial impressions got me half way, but I still don't see how to get the correct order. (I'm working backwards from the answer right now)

For those who are still trying to get it, there is a touch of salt in my above comment, although I didn't intend it when writing it.

  51. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 21, 2007 09:34 AM

    [49]
*initially* I was confused too, but at *length* I got the answer...

[50] [51] These were actually concurrent posts coincidentally

  53. Avatar_profileAceGertSoB on Dec 21, 2007 09:21 AM

can't believe that took me 13 minutes.

  54. Avatar_profileWatermelondearnashes on Dec 21, 2007 09:28 AM

HA! [51] is the salt that did it for me

  55. FilePotatorevchewie on Dec 21, 2007 10:07 AM

Never mind. As has happened to so many, so many times, I posted this and figured it out.

  56. FilePancakesjmcintyre on Dec 21, 2007 11:31 AM

Belated compliments, Murdoctor. This was a neat one.

  57. Bunny91Garlicheatherlouwho on Dec 21, 2007 11:42 AM

This was WAY too hard. Too many manipulations for an "easy," IMHO.

  58. Avatar_profilePeachjimmiebjr on Dec 21, 2007 12:37 PM

    [50] Thanks.

Agreed [57]. Then again, I'm not all that bright.

  59. Avatar_profilePeachseanp on Dec 21, 2007 02:11 PM

I got it the anagram way - still not sure the sort method needed...
