  2. FilePearDubStar on Jul 13, 2007 07:03 PM

    the obvious doesn't work.

  3. FilePotatoDevin8r on Jul 13, 2007 07:03 PM

All right! Top 2!!! It pays to not put my kids to bed right at 8:00.

  4. Avatar_profileApplepyrok on Jul 13, 2007 07:22 PM

1st top 10! Yay for me. Oh. It's the easy one. Never mind!

[2] Actually, it does in a way.

  5. Thumb_bruceleeAppler0xjo0 on Jul 13, 2007 07:24 PM

[3] You are actually number 1...

  6. FilePotatoDevin8r on Jul 13, 2007 07:28 PM

[5] Sweet! It's the easy one, but I'll take it!

  7. Avatar_profileApplekswitz on Jul 13, 2007 07:29 PM

    is the color significant?

  8. FileStrawberryPenh on Jul 13, 2007 07:36 PM

    [7] Nope, it's not.

  9. FileAppleABBAbear on Jul 13, 2007 07:36 PM

It took you 2 minutes and 49 seconds to solve this puzzle.
You were the 11th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

LOL I can't believe I got this right. Cute.

    # It took you 30 minutes and 11 seconds to solve this puzzle.

    Well, it's top 10 in base 14. :P

Rule number one for the easy puzzle: Don't overthink it. In fact...

  11. Img_0189Egggst on Jul 13, 2007 07:43 PM

Weak... that is not a picture of the object the answer refers to; that is a pushpin.

  12. FileEggmnemonica on Jul 13, 2007 08:01 PM

Great. This easy one is the only one stumping me.

  13. FileRadishThosw on Jul 13, 2007 08:14 PM

[11]'s comment concerns me. When the obvious answer brings up the image in a google search, I have to wonder what the author was actually looking for.

  14. Avatar_profileGrapescferejohn on Jul 13, 2007 08:14 PM

Yeah, that's a pushpin. Thumbtack (which it's not) doesn't work either.

  15. FileRadishThosw on Jul 13, 2007 08:21 PM
  16. AvatarApplebagherra on Jul 13, 2007 08:38 PM

okay, someone is seriously messed up in the head.
Most of the "easier" puzzles have been harder than the "tougher" puzzles!

I got the hard one today, but still have no clue on this one!

  17. FileAppleTWhitsett on Jul 13, 2007 08:39 PM

    wow. that was... um... tacky?

  18. Avatar_profileApplepyrok on Jul 13, 2007 08:43 PM

Just say what you see out loud and I'm sure you'll here... I mean hear it.

  19. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Jul 13, 2007 08:45 PM

    is this another butter puzzle??

  20. FileRadishThosw on Jul 13, 2007 09:03 PM

[18] That would work if it was an actual picture of the answer instead of what was used.

  21. Avatar_profileRocketdaw65 on Jul 13, 2007 09:06 PM

Yeah, it's kind of a "margarine" puzzle.

  22. Avatar_profileApplepyrok on Jul 13, 2007 09:06 PM

    [19] Not quite that bad.

  23. Avatar_profileApplepyrok on Jul 13, 2007 09:07 PM

[21] "margarine" is a good way to put it!

  24. Avatar_profileWatermelonmaccaj6565 on Jul 13, 2007 09:13 PM

I'm wondering if what to call the object is a regional thing... Intellectually I know it's a pushpin, but I'd call it something different (and more appropriate for the puzzle) in general conversation.

  25. 188227_100Potatomaluba on Jul 13, 2007 09:12 PM

    it's not a butter puzzle. the answer isn't a pun. it's straightforward.

i agree that a better picture could have been used. but it's not like we have to assault the poor puzzle designer with killer tomatoes, is it?

  26. Head_shotBananajppe5 on Jul 13, 2007 09:16 PM

[25] Maybe.... I'm clueless. Well, I have a clue (the blue pushpin), but it doesn't help me.

  27. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Jul 13, 2007 09:22 PM

    I agree - it's not A butter puzzle

and I feel fortunate that it came to me pretty quickly tonight (I needed a break after the hypercross and the OWW)!

So, by definition, (I guess) I liked it.

The answer is MUCH simpler than "the blue pushpin"
    and the color is irrevelant

  28. Avatar_profileApplepyrok on Jul 13, 2007 09:24 PM

Technically this is a pushpin but I grew up hearing it called the other thing too since essentially you do the same thing with both (like the way you push it in and likely, what you use to do that with). That's probably why I tried the answer right away; I wasn't hung up on whether it was a-this or a-that. ;-)

So if you need to, close your eyes and pretend it's a brass thing with a flathead.

  29. Avatar_profileApplepyrok on Jul 13, 2007 09:27 PM

[27] Glad you got it, leadfoot, and you didn't have to bang your head as much as I did yesterday on the easy one. I'm surprised all of these came to me so easily tonight after my struggles the last couple of nights!

  30. FileStrawberrydivisionbyzorro on Jul 13, 2007 09:33 PM

technically, yes it is a pushpin, but we always used the words "pushpin" and "thumbtack" interchangably in our house; i actually thought "well, it's a blue tack" when i first saw the puzzle.

  31. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Jul 13, 2007 09:35 PM

    [29] Pyrok
Some nights are easier than others for others and some

edit: I *think* that makes sense...

  32. Avatar_profileApplekswitz on Jul 13, 2007 10:35 PM

got in the car to go play some poker and said to my husband "maybe the answer is _____". Then had to wait until I got home to see if I was right... and i was. Yay!

  33. Avatar_profilePearmishy on Jul 14, 2007 12:57 AM

wow, i had actually thought of the answer, but kept dismissing it telling myself that was silly...oops.

  34. FileBananasoftball80 on Jul 14, 2007 01:15 AM

It took you 1 hour, 56 minutes and 23 seconds to solve this puzzle.

Talk about being thick in the head tonight. sheesh.

  35. Avatar_profileStrawberrysyracuselaxfan on Jul 14, 2007 01:56 AM

wow...after reading 34 messages here I still have no idea what this is...

  36. FileEggmnemonica on Jul 14, 2007 05:22 AM

[35] I think it's late enough to be salty. Thanks to the messages here, I found out what the item was supposed to be called. Put an indefinite article in front of it and listen for a homonym.

  37. Avatar_profilePeachaconger on Jul 14, 2007 06:11 AM

The size is also not relevant.

  38. Thumb_bruceleeAppler0xjo0 on Jul 14, 2007 06:59 AM

I am sorry if you guys are having problems with this. I didn't mean to cause any headaches. This photo was obtained by searching google images for thumbtack, and it happened to be the first hit. I realize most people here are viewing the image as a pushpin, but that is the wrong angle to solve this one.

I am thinking this must be a regional thing, and most people don't also refer to pushpins as thumbtacks.

Again, I am sorry for choosing a sub-optimal image.

  39. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Jul 14, 2007 07:07 AM

    [38] r0xjo0
Hey! that's why it is called a "puzzle" :-)

Thanks for making it in the first place!

  40. Thunk_logo_colorPotatofachanlahd on Jul 14, 2007 07:39 AM

    groan....

  41. FileRaspberryMarkel on Jul 14, 2007 11:22 AM

    [36] Thanks, that's what I needed.

  42. FileGarlicHope2002 on Jul 14, 2007 12:30 PM

Yeah, wouldn't have gotten that without salt. Never, ever have I called that thing anything other than a pushpin. You won't get one of these if you ask for it by that name.

  43. Avatar_profileWatermelonFrydad4 on Jul 14, 2007 02:42 PM

    ridiculous.

    I did laugh, though.

  44. FilePepperdajagr on Jul 14, 2007 06:03 PM

    [27] I can't believe it's not a butter puzzle.

  45. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Jul 14, 2007 06:05 PM

    [44] dajagr
    It's better than butter

  46. Aug080195Eggplantgusssr on Jul 25, 2010 07:14 PM

to answer the question in the solution - yes.
