    # It took you 12 minutes and 29 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    # You were the 2nd Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
    # Average solve time: 10 minutes and 13 seconds.
    # Median solve time: 12 minutes and 29 seconds.
    # 2.899% of Tanga members that have attempted this puzzle have solved it

I would salt but I fear that would leave a bad taste in someones mouth.

  3. FileDuckiedavey3 on Mon Aug 06, 2007 07:29 PM

    4th after 10 minutes.

    I liked that one!

  4. FileStrawberryPenh on Mon Aug 06, 2007 07:31 PM

Speaking of gear projections, I think the ones in my brain may have melted in the heat, 'cuz I'm not getting anywhere.

  5. BebadoPlumcrankin666 on Mon Aug 06, 2007 07:35 PM

    I'm a doctor not a pool man!!!!!!

  6. Avatar_profileAppleAMeisler on Mon Aug 06, 2007 07:41 PM

Hint: Don't limit yourselve to words actually found in the English language.

  7. FileStrawberryPenh on Mon Aug 06, 2007 07:46 PM

Ack... brain aching... thesaurus... wearing out... must solve...

  8. FileDuckienrkii on Mon Aug 06, 2007 07:47 PM

This is a strange word, more commonly seen with an S on the end.

    ...

Salt: Don't ignore the request in the quote bubble.

  9. FileRadishThosw on Mon Aug 06, 2007 07:50 PM

    Wow... 11th after 49 minutes?

  10. FileDuckienrkii on Mon Aug 06, 2007 07:52 PM

I have a strange love for these demento types of puzzles.

    Thanks Murdoctor!

  11. FileRocketTrinSF on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:00 PM

I was stumped on the second one, but my son, who is going to college in the fall and spending his summer slacking, helped. He knew the answer right away. :-)

  12. Avatar_profileBananaAossHat on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:00 PM

I have a theme, and I believe I have the 5 hint phrases figured out, I just can't figure out what to do with them.

  13. FileStrawberryPenh on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:15 PM

    # It took you 1 hour, 13 minutes and 33 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    # You were the 19th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

AGH! Finally! I was led astray by the obvious answers to #1 and #5, which made me look for a pattern that wasn't there. D'oh! I think it was the icepack on my head that finally got my brain working.

  14. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:17 PM

[8] I thought so too, but apparently it has another meaning germane to the puzzle.

  15. SouthparkPepperTahnan on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:25 PM

"Strange" word? How about, *not* a word. This could have been a nice puzzle, but there's positively no excuse for having an answer that's not a word.

  16. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:28 PM

    The answer is not word?
gee - what could I make up? grrrr

  17. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:37 PM

[15, 16] It is a word, although an esoteric, veterinary one that happens to look like the (incorrect) singular of a more common one. I agree that this could be misleading, since it appears to be an nonword. It took a minute before I even bothered trying it.

  18. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:34 PM

    Well,
Even with the dose of salt on BGG I can't see any pattern that will give me a word that I recognize at all...

  19. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:42 PM

PB, take the clue words then look for something in the speech bubble that might help you with tangafication.

  20. Avatar_profileApplekswitz on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:39 PM

I'm with you leadfoot. Not sure if we are supposed to use the whole clue words or a part of the clue words to come up with the actual answer.

  21. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Mon Aug 06, 2007 09:27 PM

kswitz, part of the clue words.

  22. Avatar_profileApplekswitz on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:41 PM

thanks robrizob. That got it for me!

  23. Avatar_profileCherriesjetonup on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:46 PM

    word

  24. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:54 PM

well I brute forced it - still don't know #4
    -eh-

  25. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Mon Aug 06, 2007 08:56 PM

PB, it's from a recent series of films. Probably has something to do with that rock of yours :)

  26. Avatar_profileKiwiSilverSabre25 on Mon Aug 06, 2007 09:01 PM

Bah!!! That is NOT the correct singular form of the word!!!

I don't agree with it simply because it is a medical term. BUT...I liked the puzzle anyway. Cute mechanic!

  27. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Mon Aug 06, 2007 09:03 PM

    [25] robrizob
Yeah - this rock is pretty dense (like me).

    BTW
    Thanks to all who helped!

  28. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Mon Aug 06, 2007 09:07 PM

[26] I don't think anyone said it was the correct singular, just that it looked like the incorrect singular, which happens to mean something else entirely.

  29. FilePearjulesfordale3 on Mon Aug 06, 2007 09:32 PM

    Nice puzzle

  30. FilePeachyoda31419 on Mon Aug 06, 2007 10:20 PM

For some reason, I'm having a very hard time connecting the question with the rest of the puzzle.
Edit: I just had to take a second and relax.

  31. Avatar_profileAppleGuantanamo on Mon Aug 06, 2007 10:25 PM

    not me

I now know why I stopped doing these.

  32. FilePumpkinJohnQ118 on Mon Aug 06, 2007 11:43 PM

    Great.
    I musta cheated . . . somehow

"It took you 4 minutes and 35 seconds to solve this puzzle.
You were the 118th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
Average solve time: 45 minutes and 10 seconds. "

Don't think too much to solve this.

  33. SouthparkPepperTahnan on Tue Aug 07, 2007 12:25 AM

OK, I'll grant that it is, in some sense, a word. However, it's especially technical; it doesn't appear in, say, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate or Unabridged. The vast, vast majority of its appearances on the web are as typos, proper names, or other irrelevancies.

Once again, I fear there is no excuse.

  34. Avatar_profileLemonWolfmarsh on Tue Aug 07, 2007 04:30 AM

    That puzzle was evil.

  35. FileCarrotblahmcblah on Tue Aug 07, 2007 05:53 AM

I still don't get it, even with all the salt :(

    GM me somebody?

  36. FileEggMurdoctor on Tue Aug 07, 2007 07:08 AM

The answer IS a word... and it is relevant to something mentioned in the puzzle.

For these harder puzzles, I often go for lesser-known words (or lesser-used spellings) to thwart guessing the answer without actually finding the solution.

  37. Avatar_profileWatermelonnervousone on Tue Aug 07, 2007 07:52 AM

I am so stupid, this was easy.

  38. FilePlumsjlee on Tue Aug 07, 2007 07:53 AM

[33] Actually, it does appear in "Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary"... at least according to Dictionary.com

  39. FileStrawberrydivisionbyzorro on Tue Aug 07, 2007 08:00 AM

I think most people read the answer and think that it's trying to be a singular noun, but it's not. [38] is absolutely correct; look it up and it makes sense.

  40. Avatar_profileApplekswitz on Tue Aug 07, 2007 08:32 AM

I am confused by everyone's saying this isn't a word. As soon as I got a few of the letters I figured it out based on the clue in the bubble... of course, I needed major salt to get the clues, but it's not like I had to look the final answer up anywhere because it related to the bubble clue.... After reading everyone's comments here I had to make sure I had actually solved it and not just dreamt that I solved it because everyone is complaining about it being some obscure word.

  41. FileApplepahool on Tue Aug 07, 2007 11:08 AM

I've gotten all the clues but I am lost on the puzzle. I know I'm going to feel stupid when I figure this one out. Grrr... GM welcome...

  42. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Tue Aug 07, 2007 11:22 AM

    salt at bgg

  43. FileApplepahool on Tue Aug 07, 2007 11:26 AM

Thanks. I was right. I DO feel stupid...

  44. 200px-monarch_01Peachcagedsoul on Tue Aug 07, 2007 01:20 PM

    I don't have a clue
I've got most of the words... still working on #4 but I'm stumped. I'm mashing them together and trying to tie in the bubble... but nothing. Any help?

BGG helped me get one but its NOT helping putting it together... the 'not a word' argument is just confusing me more.

  45. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Tue Aug 07, 2007 01:51 PM

[44] Cagedsoul, once you get some or all of the clues, you need to look in the speech bubble for something that will tell you which letter to take from the clues.

  46. Avatar_profileOrangeainsworth on Tue Aug 07, 2007 02:57 PM

#4 is from a comedy i think, the clue bubble though obvious what to do with it would be really hard still because if you don't have all the words you think your wrong

  47. Avatar_profileGrapesaramaic on Tue Aug 07, 2007 03:22 PM

Aargh...still not getting this. Solved the warm-up and crossword... I think I have the words and think I know what I'm supposed to do with it...but I ended up with OAOVE...

    Not so good...

  48. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Tue Aug 07, 2007 03:26 PM

    [47] aramaic
    have you checked BGG?

  49. Avatar_profileCherriestonetonitony on Tue Aug 07, 2007 04:02 PM

That was absolutely ingenious. Great puzzle.

  50. Avatar_profileCherriesgarrettw on Sat Feb 06, 2010 02:38 AM

i'm new here and I don't have the SLIGHTEST clue as to how i'm supposed to arrive at any sort of answer from all that nonsense in the picture. all the salt hasn't helped a bit either.
and in fact i am a star trek fan. but i'm betting that has nothing to do with it.

  51. Avatar_profileCherriesgarrettw on Sat Feb 06, 2010 02:38 AM

    [delete plz]

  52. FileOnionPatanga on Sun Jan 29, 2012 01:45 PM

I solved this by getting a word that reminded me of the solution word....really a guess that I was surprised was correct. Oh well.
