To get an early start on hinting folks. The key is the key. Just look around.

  5. FileRadishThosw on Dec 04, 2006 07:07 PM

The fact that the .GIF ends in "Arnott" scares me.

    UGEEK! UGEEK!

    /BGG.Con 2006 joke.

  6. Avatar_profileStrawberryacolyte on Dec 04, 2006 07:08 PM

Five and a half minutes, I am ashamed. I feel like I'm in the middle of room and everyone's looking at me and pointing.

  7. Avatar_profileGrapeswarbanner on Dec 04, 2006 07:09 PM

Now, now. They may have their fingers out, but that's not to point at you in scorn.

  8. Avatar_profilePearmundane on Dec 04, 2006 07:10 PM

    Clever puzzle.

  9. Avatar_profilePeartopher352 on Dec 04, 2006 07:11 PM

these puzzles make me feel stupid.

  10. Avatar_profileWatermelonpep on Dec 04, 2006 07:13 PM

    me too

  11. FileGrapesxpsdude on Dec 04, 2006 07:13 PM

I think I get the clue, but I am not able to apply it correctly yet.

  12. FileGarlicMrPlow99 on Dec 04, 2006 07:13 PM

Yay, I could use a puzzle that I just "got" right away.

  13. Avatar_profileGrapesChachito on Dec 04, 2006 07:14 PM

Does anyone else randomly check the blog during the day just in case they post up a way to use these Tanga points? Sometimes I have to stop myself. :)

  14. FileGrapesxpsdude on Dec 04, 2006 07:17 PM

I just don't see it yet, and it is frustrating me not to be able to post my thoughts freely.

  15. FileGrapestheokester on Dec 04, 2006 07:17 PM

must be all the prep for finals this week...but I'm not seeing any key "around here" or "somewhere" or "anywhere" for that matter....hrm....

  16. Avatar_profileGrapeswarbanner on Dec 04, 2006 07:17 PM

xps, is that because you use an alternate configuration?

  17. Avatar_profileGrapeswarbanner on Dec 04, 2006 07:18 PM

And yet, the key is almost certainly right within your reach...

  18. FileEggRPardoe on Dec 04, 2006 07:20 PM

    D'oh

  19. FileGrapestheokester on Dec 04, 2006 07:22 PM

it better be...or this is going to be a very long night. ;)

  20. Avatar_profileStrawberrygreenm0n5ta on Dec 04, 2006 07:22 PM

can someone give me a hint on how to use the key?

  21. Avatar_profilePlumdaved on Dec 04, 2006 07:22 PM

Oh, nice. I was on the wrong track to start with but I soon came around to the right answer.

  22. BatsmallSailboatAshe2000 on Dec 04, 2006 07:23 PM

    Wow, eleven minutes.

My only defense is that I never took that in school. I'm more of a touchy-feely kind of guy :)

  23. Avatar_profileWatermelonpep on Dec 04, 2006 07:23 PM

what really confused me was being able to spell the word "key" with the jumble of letters below. Double D'oh. Finally got it though

  24. FileRaspberryA_Beaverhausen on Dec 04, 2006 07:23 PM

It took you 14 minutes and 30 seconds.
You are the 33rd fastest Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
You were the 41st Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

First time, hint free!!!!! I know it's not 38 seconds, but I'll sleep great tonight!!!

  25. Avatar_profilePeartopher352 on Dec 04, 2006 07:26 PM

wow.. finally got it. 15 minutes. yuck. I had no idea how close the key was.

  26. Avatar_profilePeardamiangerous on Dec 04, 2006 07:27 PM

Wow, I sure made that harder than it needed to be.

  27. FileRadishThosw on Dec 04, 2006 07:28 PM

I am the stupidest man alive!

You have already solved this puzzle.

  28. FileGrapesxpsdude on Dec 04, 2006 07:29 PM

Not quite. I still don't see it.

  29. EdgewoodSailboatsplat169 on Dec 04, 2006 07:29 PM

    Not the stupidest...I'm still....uh lost

  30. Avatar_profilePotatobarneshome on Dec 04, 2006 07:29 PM

    Too obvious for me.

  31. FileRadishThosw on Dec 04, 2006 07:30 PM

The key could be right under your nose.

  32. FileRadishThosw on Dec 04, 2006 07:30 PM

    Look closer.

  33. EdgewoodSailboatsplat169 on Dec 04, 2006 07:33 PM

    I must be to close

  34. FileGrapesxpsdude on Dec 04, 2006 07:34 PM

I am going to vent my frustration. It apparently has nothing to do with letters "around" the letters that spell KEY or any variation of the words in the paragraph.

  35. Avatar_profileGrapesboskgote on Dec 04, 2006 07:36 PM

xps, you don't know how close you are.

  36. Avatar_profileGrapeswarbanner on Dec 04, 2006 07:36 PM

XPS - yes, that's true. It does however have to do with each line of clues being around a key. Sadly, the answer is right at your fingertips.

  37. Avatar_profileGrapesChachito on Dec 04, 2006 07:37 PM

xpsdude, remember how we did the Nov. 27th puzzle....

  38. Avatar_profileLemonJoe4397 on Dec 04, 2006 07:37 PM

Woot! I get bored quickly, it seems...

You have already solved this puzzle.
    It took you 26 seconds.
You are the 4th fastest Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
You were the 71st Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

(I wish this didn't count download times.)

About time there was one where I'm *inside* the regional bias instead of outside.

  39. FileGrapestheokester on Dec 04, 2006 07:37 PM

    grrr....got it...thanks war. :0

  40. Avatar_profileOrangeZebraboy on Dec 04, 2006 07:38 PM

xps, it may not be the type of puzzle you think it is...

  41. FileGrapestheokester on Dec 04, 2006 07:39 PM

and thanks to all others who hinted along the way...it should've been blatantly obvious...but alas, it wasn't.

  42. FileRadishThosw on Dec 04, 2006 07:40 PM

Dvorak would not be able to solve this puzzle.

  43. Avatar_profileWatermelonFawkes on Dec 04, 2006 07:40 PM

Funny. Nice little puzzle Aaron. If you have "The Touch" it should get it with blinding speed.

  44. FileGrapestheokester on Dec 04, 2006 07:41 PM

actually....I think those without the touch might get it faster. ;) I was too busy looking somewhere else.

  45. Avatar_profileWatermelonnvzblity on Dec 04, 2006 07:42 PM

    omg. I can't believe I didn't see it earlier

  46. FileGrapestheokester on Dec 04, 2006 07:42 PM

though, momma always said I'd been touched.

  47. FilePancakestempus42 on Dec 04, 2006 07:46 PM

Joe, How is there a "regional bias" to this puzzle? Or are you just saying that as your clue? (FWIW, Thosw gave it away for me.)

  48. Thumb_bruceleeAppler0xjo0 on Dec 04, 2006 07:46 PM

    lame

  49. FileGrapesxpsdude on Dec 04, 2006 07:48 PM

ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH.........Did not see that.....Thanks Fawkes. I would have been staring at the screen all night when I should have been looking a little lower.

  50. FilePumpkinJohn on Dec 04, 2006 07:51 PM

    too much Thosw...

  51. Avatar_profileWatermelonFawkes on Dec 04, 2006 07:53 PM

Just not TOO low xps. Not too low. :D

  52. Avatar_profileWatermelonbenjaminx on Dec 04, 2006 07:56 PM

I can't get it at all! I'm so stupid...

  53. FileRadishThosw on Dec 04, 2006 07:57 PM

Well, he would be too busy working on the Ninth Symphony.

  54. FileGrapesxpsdude on Dec 04, 2006 07:58 PM

  58. Avatar_profileLemonBogden on Dec 04, 2006 08:02 PM

Crazy puzzle! I mean, that's just not the way I think when I do these puzzles!

  59. FileAppleTangaJoe (Tanga Admin) on Dec 04, 2006 08:20 PM

We just did some emergency maintenance on the site. Hopefully it's much faster for everyone.

    Darn you Network File Systems!

    > The fact that the .GIF ends in "Arnott" scares me.

Hey HEY! Cool. Thanks, Thosw, I would never have noticed that. Of course, the answer makes even more sense to me now :)

It took you 3 minutes and 32 seconds.
You are the 52nd fastest Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
You were the 176th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

  61. FileBananatheChony on Dec 04, 2006 08:36 PM

Am I the only left who can't figure this one out? Do I understand that I'm only supposed to look at those 3 codes near the bottom?

  62. FileGrapesxpsdude on Dec 04, 2006 08:41 PM

theChony - try not to be too frustrated. The key is right at your fingertips.

  63. Avatar_profileGrapeswarbanner on Dec 04, 2006 08:42 PM

For your first question - maybe. For the second, well, not quite. That's all you need to look at on the screen, yes.

  64. Avatar_profileGrapeswarbanner on Dec 04, 2006 08:43 PM

xps - good clue, wish I'd thought of it. :)

I thought thosw's was a bit too obvious, had avoided it before.

  65. Avatar_profilePearstonana on Dec 04, 2006 08:45 PM

    still lost...still feeling dumb...

  66. Avatar_profilePearstonana on Dec 04, 2006 08:49 PM

anybody got any salt for me?

  67. FileGrapesxpsdude on Dec 04, 2006 08:50 PM

The key is right in front of you (probably).

  68. Avatar_profileGrapeswarbanner on Dec 04, 2006 08:51 PM

Things are pretty salty already, stonana. I think it'd be hard to say more without giving it away. You on BGG? I could send you an email...

  69. Avatar_profileLemonJoe4397 on Dec 04, 2006 08:52 PM

tempus42, not everywhere has the same high standards as the U.S., although the U.S. is a big exporter in this respect.

If you go to the relevant Wikipedia page you discover the first (really minor) snag about a third of the way down the page. And technically somebody might be fluently bilingual having fun with these puzzles from northern Europe or from Asia. Since Tanga membership was seeded from BGG there's probably a few folks from Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, China, ... ...

  70. Avatar_profilePearstonana on Dec 04, 2006 08:53 PM

not on BGG...you could e-mail me at stonana@hotmail.com if you want to...

  71. Avatar_profileGrapeswarbanner on Dec 04, 2006 08:55 PM

    Done.

  72. FileGrapesxpsdude on Dec 04, 2006 08:55 PM

    Sent a message Stonana

  73. Avatar_profilePearstonana on Dec 04, 2006 08:57 PM

    xps,

thanks for the e-mails...i went back and read the posts again and I ended up getting it...clever puzzle

  74. FileGrapesxpsdude on Dec 04, 2006 08:59 PM

    Midnight in Florida, good night.

  75. Avatar_profileWatermelonshowmethemoney on Dec 04, 2006 09:04 PM

I had to step away, but I solved it when I came back and received a puzzling result...

You are the 197th fastest Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
You were the 181st Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

Are people solving it multiple times? Or is the count off?

  76. FileBananatheChony on Dec 04, 2006 09:04 PM

I'm getting worried about this fabeled "regional bias", since I'm still lost.

  77. FilePlumworkerbee on Dec 04, 2006 09:04 PM

after two days of not solving what were supposedly easier puzzles, I'm glad I could get my mind wrapped around this one...

  78. Avatar_profileWatermelonbloodygeno on Dec 04, 2006 09:23 PM

yes, there is a regional bias. Things are different in Europe... May not work there.

BTW, thank XPS. very salty, but not onerous.

  79. Avatar_profileWatermelonkozmo on Dec 04, 2006 09:58 PM

Jesus, that shouldn't have been so hard!

  80. Avatar_profileWatermelonkozmo on Dec 04, 2006 10:00 PM

    culturally biased salt?

  81. Avatar_profilePearRichCsigs on Dec 04, 2006 10:09 PM

The key to the answer may not be readily available to all peoples of the world. Though I assume that if you knew what you were looking for, a quick trip to wiki could solve that problem.

  82. Avatar_profileKiwirgamble522 on Dec 05, 2006 04:30 AM

The key isn't obvious, is it?

  83. Avatar_profileKiwirgamble522 on Dec 05, 2006 04:36 AM

It turns out it was kinda obvious...

  84. Avatar_profileLemonProud2bANerd on Dec 05, 2006 05:06 AM

arg...it seems sometimes printing the puzzle out to work on it is a disadvantage...[49] broke it wide open for me. really wish i hadn't had to look at the blog at all...doh!

  85. Avatar_profileAcehighfloydelity on Dec 05, 2006 06:59 AM

Neat puzzle. The first one that I really didn't need obvious clues for.

  86. Avatar_profileWatermelonMelsana on Dec 05, 2006 07:30 AM

I like that the puzzzles are now divided by month, but when I clicked on one of the months I get logged out rather than taken to the puzzles, just like when the big blue P first appeared.

  87. Avatar_profileBananaDJKuulA on Dec 05, 2006 08:11 AM

Some of us are ergonomically advanced, ya know!!! :P

  88. FileOnionTwench on Dec 05, 2006 08:17 AM

For those still stuck, #42 was the "AHA" clue for me. It might be that for you.

  89. FileBananatheChony on Dec 05, 2006 08:19 AM

You have already solved this puzzle.

Jesus indeed. I'll never doubt your hints again. It truly was, right at my fingertips, under my nose, keys I always use.

  90. FileStrawberry1stage on Dec 05, 2006 09:17 AM

So, that's why it's titled ...Arnott!

  91. FileKiwijgoewert on Dec 05, 2006 09:22 AM

Personal best so far. Didn't take long when I figured out the pattern, or at least where it was.

  92. FileBananayodaredd on Dec 05, 2006 11:29 AM

I am so mad - I usually print these puzzles out and work on them from home - not at my COMPUTER! Naturally, the clue did not present itself to me at all ;)

  93. Avatar_profileLemonzeppelin17 on Dec 05, 2006 01:56 PM

    uh... i dont get it

  94. Avatar_profileLemonzeppelin17 on Dec 05, 2006 02:04 PM
