ummm...
For some reason this puzzle reminds me of a cross between In Living Color and Sega's old "Welcome to the next level" ads. Or maybe I've just had too much to drink =)
All I've managed to come up with so far is what I should ignore. However, the others don't make anything.
Okay, I think I have the first part, but I'm not quite sure how to interpret it.
First, in 8:34. Let me tell you, that last step is a doozy.
no idea. I'll remain a cherry for today...
Good job, Tahnan. This one is *tough*.
# It took you 20 minutes and 48 seconds to solve this puzzle.
# You were the 2nd Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
o_O
That last step really is a doozy. Brilliant, though.
"It took you 22 minutes and 22 seconds to solve this puzzle.
You were the 3rd Tanga member to solve this puzzle."
Third on both puzzles today. Even though it took me a while to figure out how to apply the last instuction, I liked it! Really nice puzzle, buggy!
What I have left doesn't make a word
That's because you're only half-done, [10].
For those in that position: the final instruction tells you to do two things, A then B. Doing A will get you, in fact, something that doesn't make a word. You still need to find a way to do B to the result of A.
That didn't make a word either. Not interested enough to keep trying. I'll look back in the morning, maybe.
Whoof. That was indeed a doozy. Not often that I end up 6th with a 22-minute-plus time.
[11] Any other salt than that? Reiterating what the puzzle already told me hasn't really triggered anything for me.
[14] Look at how many letters you have left after you do the first part of that final instruction.
EDIT: And remember to do that first part completely and thoroughly.
Clever puzzle.
12th, just barely under an hour. 15 mins got me to the last step, and then... ouch. [15] is a good hint. Nice puzzle.
Thanks Murdoctor... I'm renewing my work on the puzzle with enthusiasm...I hope I have the right number!
I can't get past "Dull sex disk"
I got a six letter word that means nothing.
Me too. Adding a colour is tricky....
Is there a hint as to how to do that?
Guess not....
Sorry, I got nothing.
Bah! Just missed top twenty. Should have been here earlier. That was really fun.
# It took you 13 minutes and 37 seconds to solve this puzzle.
# You were the 21st Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
[19] - I'm at the same stage (I think). Down to six meaningless letters and not sure how to proceed according to the instructions.
[18] I didn't even notice "dull sex disk" until after the puzzle went live.
Aha!
# It took you 1 hour, 15 minutes and 42 seconds to solve this puzzle.
# You were the 22nd Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
...Finally. I had it ages ago but miscounted the first letter which threw the whole thing off.
That was fun, well done.
I will say this: The easy puzzle was easy today, and the hard puzzle is hard. (I'm still stuck on the last step.)
[29] check BGG for salt.
[30] I have. :( Everything it's inspired me to try has been wrong. So far, anyway.
Dear god, that took lethal NaCl to solve. :P
[29] Lucky you - I'm stuck on the first step
Jeebus Christmas! That last step was a killer! Just needed the nudge at BGG.
Everyone is complaining about the last step... I found it somewhat intuitive. I thought it was easier than one of the others.
Screw it. I got to the last step, ran into the wall, and frankly don't need to feel any stupider than I already do.
Buggy made a hard puzzle. Yay for Buggy. There's no point if it isn't fun.
I thought it was fun... but it takes a little bit of outside knowledge and none of the steps are very intuitive.
leadfoot, thanks much for the geekmail explanation. (Now I need to learn how to send geekmail replies without getting error messages.)
[36] I agree there. When the steps are in all kinds of order the last requires you to figure out which order for the last step. Plus one of them was very misleading with directional words that didn't quite work.
Very difficult to figure out instructions. Not a hard puzzle but hard interpreting the instructions. Not fun
I'm sorry guys, but that puzzle sucked!
[18] & i seem to have the same problem. the dull sex disk is RUINING my chances of actually concentrating on this thing

I have to say initially no clue at all, but with some help from leadfoot I got the answer. Reflecting back on the puzzle it's pretty good. Only two complaints green and red should switch colors making red a red hering. And upside down should be replaced with backwards. Other then that that fantastical work, buggy. Excellent puzzle
I REALLY liked this one!
I do agree with [44]'s suggestions, but it was still a lot of fun and certainly not too difficult. I wouldn't say it requires any outside knowledge to solve, as someone else mentioned. My only other suggestion is that the answer word could be a little bit more unusual, as I was able to guess it on the first try after figuring out only the first two letters.
Well done buggy!
DANG! I'm down to what I believe is the last step and am stuck (with 6 letters). Here I thought I'd be able to do the super-hard one w/o salt. Off to the salt-lick at BGG
Puzzle started out good, but falls apart at the end.
I followed the message from blue and got 6 letters. I've added them to yellow, but I'm stuck on the next step. What do I do with the numbers?
How important is color?
[49] gaijin
Color is very important in this puzzle...
@#$!$!@ puzzles the colorblind people can't do.
Is there only one red color? Or, how many different colors are there? I want to make sure I can distinguish them all.
[52] there are 4 colors & each one is in a slightly different font.
Four colors
Red
Blue
Yellow
Green
give me a little time and I'll make up the color map...
it looks like he has used different fonts for different colors...
Bold - no serif = Blue (top left letter - N)
Not bold - serif = Red (second letter - E)
Bold - serif = Yellow (third letter - F)
Not bold - no serif = Green (fourth letter down in first column - N)
OK - solved. But that last step WAS A DOOZY and not intuitive, at least to me. I was salt-free til then.
EDIT: Oh, and buggy - I thought it was a great puzzle. I had some difficulty at the end but maybe it'll be clear when I read the solve tomorrow.

All that black ink is killing my printer :)
new pagination for comments...
hmmm - don't know if I like... I often come to a blog and then search for a user - this will require extra steps if there is more than one page... not liking very much at all
I don't like the pagination...
Thanks for the color map.
I'm stuck on the last step. I've read all the salt, but I wind up with gibberish
[Edit] NM, I miscounted
[59] & [60] I don't like the pagination either.
[60] GM me what you have
pbleadfoot at BGG
edit: NM I saw your NM
The pagination does make it harder to just peruse the blog...
Ahh, I see from here
http://tanga.com/puzzles/215-1-23-2007?comments_page=8#comment_60118
that the pagination helps reduce the load on the servers...
tradeoffs, tradeoffs...
For those still struggling with the last step, "adding" means a letter shift in the alphabet.
EDIT: And, for the record, I'd prefer one long blog page, without the pagination. It's not like these puzzle blogs are going to grow endlessly.
I prefer one long blog page also, but if it's a server issue, perhaps a compromise to have a longer than 50 but shorter than infinite number of posts on a page - -
how about 100?
gaijin, I'm sorry. I tried to use distinctive fonts to make it easier for colorblind people. I should have had a font/color key at the bottom. Next time I do one where colors are important, I'll make sure to have a key.
AND THANK-YOU TANGA JOE!!!
for moving the "refresh comments" link
that made me smile!
Can you add links to the [first] and [last] pages of the blog, so we don't have to page through to get there? *(edit - strike that, I didn't realize you do have page 1 and page n with ellipses in between)*
Especially when coming from the "recent events" tab - I am usually looking for the most recent comment when I am linking from there...
-------------
edit:
and while you're at it, I was perusing the most recent entry for the t-shirt contest (on the third page of the comments). I clicked on the picture, but when I went "back" it took me all the way to the beginning of the blog - not to the place where I clicked on the picture...
Not so bad when you only have to hit the "end" button on the keyboard - more annoying when you are perusing a lot of pictures ...
Yikes. That took forever and lots of help from Leadfoot, (Thanks)
Some hints should have been added to the puzzle for the last step.
I don't even know where to start.
[69] GrandpaDave
start with the red letters...
i got red and green, haven't figured yellow or blue and i know red has something to do with blue
The solution description of how to deal with the blue letters does not describe how the blue letters are actually embedded in the puzzle...
Buggy, after looking at your solution explanation, it appears you made a mistake, as the blue letters read from top to bottom and right to left, not from bottom to top and left to right as intended. It was still solvable obviously, but just thought I'd let you know.
This puzzle drained me of all of mine...
