Wow, I made that one WAY harder than it was...

  5. Avatar_profilePeachUethym on Oct 06, 2007 07:15 PM

Why is that answer superior to the 30-odd other possible answers? Would never have thought to try that if not for [4].

  6. AvatarApplebagherra on Oct 06, 2007 07:21 PM

I don't get why the answer is what it is.
I would say it is easy, but the answer isn't really all that obvious.

There are one of a dozen solutions to this puzzle, and nothing really explains why the one that it is is what it is.

  7. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Oct 06, 2007 07:23 PM

[5]&[6] Maybe the solution will reveal some unseen cleverness?

  8. FilePepperVerve640 on Oct 06, 2007 07:27 PM

Let's hope so, I never would have guessed it if not for the comments...

  9. Tog6Pumpkinprincessproton on Oct 06, 2007 07:55 PM

[5], [6] - It's the only option that followed the directions.

  10. FileDuckiedavey3 on Oct 06, 2007 07:59 PM

I didn't use the comments, but I also have no idea why that's the answer. There are certainly lots of other possibilities.

Went the right way early. Pretty lucky.

I think maybe the directions are more clear to some than others.

  13. Avatar_profileCarrotalchemist on Oct 06, 2007 08:54 PM

Directions were all over the board. But it got me a first anyway.

  14. FilePepperdajagr on Oct 06, 2007 08:59 PM

Having brute-forced it, I think I finally see how the directions work. Interesting.

  15. FilePotatoeldurand on Oct 06, 2007 09:07 PM

Wow, totally lost on this one. When finding your way out, are mid-word changes of direction necessary?

  16. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Oct 06, 2007 09:24 PM

Why is that word any better than the other 27 I found before getting that one? Why isn't RAIDER just as good?

Sorry Doc, definitely not fun tonight. No way to figure out what the "right" path is.

[15] eldurand - Yes, mid-word changes in direction are necessary

  17. FilePepperdajagr on Oct 06, 2007 09:34 PM

You can figure out what the right path is--I back-solved it based on something [13] said.

Think about what it is you have when you start.

  18. FilePancakesjmcintyre on Oct 06, 2007 09:36 PM

As I was typing my "I don't see it" reply to [14], I finally saw it. I was ignoring the advice in [1], basically because I didn't understand it when I first read it. Not bad!

  19. Tog6Pumpkinprincessproton on Oct 06, 2007 09:51 PM

    [16] check GM.

  20. FilePotatoeldurand on Oct 06, 2007 09:58 PM

    [16] Thanks.

Finally gave up and typed in a couple of words and happened to get it, but I still have NO clue how or why. Waiting to see the solution tomorrow and try to understand...

  21. Avatar_profilePeachCUTHALI0N on Oct 06, 2007 11:11 PM

I think I might understand why the answer is what it is... maybe. Can't be sure though. Heh.

  22. FilePumpkinJohn on Oct 06, 2007 11:28 PM

Got it. It's all about following directions.

This type of puzzle should be right up your alley.

  23. FileGarlick1w1 on Oct 07, 2007 02:31 AM

Damn, I had the solve solution so many times and stopped because I hit a dead end.
I didn't realise that it was a dead end because it was finished! lol.

  24. Avatar_profilePearcrazyken33 on Oct 07, 2007 07:27 AM

I got the right solution but I don't understand it.

  25. Avatar_profileStrawberrymasher77 on Oct 07, 2007 08:14 AM

found "the solution" but why can't I rate 0 stars??

  26. FileEggplantpharcourt on Oct 07, 2007 08:51 AM

I'm in the category of people who went straight to the answer - but I can see why some people may struggle. 'Just follow directions'isn't a comment that I like to see when I'm stuck but in this case it was all I needed to keep me literally on track. I think the puzzle is fair

  28. FileGrapesjdbausch on Oct 07, 2007 09:23 AM

I brute-forced it quickly last night. But came back today, and now I get it. It is a cool idea, its just too bad that you can get it easily w/o using the methodology.

  29. FileTomatoMurdoctor on Oct 07, 2007 09:37 AM

[16] Actually, there is. The key word is "directions". "RAIDER" doesn't follow them.

  30. FilePepperVerve640 on Oct 07, 2007 09:54 AM
  31. FileBananaThomasD on Oct 07, 2007 02:25 PM

While you could follow the directions to solve this puzzle, I solved it by writing out the puzzle to find my way out.

  32. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Oct 07, 2007 04:31 PM

[29] Of course. Now I feel dumb. The mix is what confused me.

  33. FileTomatoMurdoctor on Oct 07, 2007 05:10 PM

[32] At least you had the faith that there was some "unseen cleverness" going on.

  34. Avatar_profilePearfreelancelot on Oct 08, 2007 06:52 PM

I also see lots of other four and five-letter words that solve the puzzle. Why are they not also a possible solutions? What's the logic?

  35. Avatar_profileCherriesbrit on Oct 30, 2007 03:02 PM

It took you 32 seconds to solve this puzzle.

    =]
and i thought i was slow at all the other ones.
