For some reason, this one clicked.

  5. Avatar_profileLemondrphil210 on Dec 29, 2006 07:09 PM

does the fact that the words go 9 8 7 6 in amount of letters have anything to do with this?

  6. Avatar_profileOrangejswheeler on Dec 29, 2006 07:10 PM

  9. FileRadishThosw on Dec 29, 2006 07:10 PM

No, Dr Phil. But tsmaster's comment is kinda salty.

  10. Avatar_profileOrangejswheeler on Dec 29, 2006 07:11 PM

#6 is a good block of salt

  11. Firefly_shipAppledarkjedi26 on Dec 29, 2006 07:11 PM

Took me 4 minutes, mostly because I was thinking a framing square was something else..

  12. Avatar_profilePearglsonn on Dec 29, 2006 07:13 PM

Sorry, folks. Guess I shook a little too hard on the salt shaker. My #6 is gone.

  13. Avatar_profileLemondrphil210 on Dec 29, 2006 07:14 PM

haha i was wonderin why jswheeler said #6 was helpful

  14. Avatar_profileOrangejswheeler on Dec 29, 2006 07:14 PM

so that makes my post number 6 and it is not salty at all.

  15. FileRaspberryA_Beaverhausen on Dec 29, 2006 07:16 PM

    Me too, darkjedi26.

  16. Avatar_profileGrapesjessfranco on Dec 29, 2006 07:16 PM

I wasn't sure what a framing square was so I looked it up on Wikipedia and immediately knew what the answer to the puzzle was.

  17. Avatar_profileWatermelonjericho on Dec 29, 2006 07:17 PM

lol, I was thinking a framing square was something else too. Once I realized I was wrong, it all clicked

  18. FilePepperdajagr on Dec 29, 2006 07:17 PM

Ah, it takes a puzzle like that to get me back into shape.

  19. Avatar_profilePearglsonn on Dec 29, 2006 07:17 PM

My wife made me Google framing square. That's when we got it.

  20. FileGarlicMrPlow99 on Dec 29, 2006 07:18 PM

You have already solved this puzzle.
It took you 3 minutes and 8 seconds.
You are the 21st fastest Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
You were the 26th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

Looks like several people are getting this one right away. It wasn't immediately obvious to me, but when I saw someone got it in 50 seconds I figured it was something apparent if I just looked at things the right way. And indeed it was.

  21. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 29, 2006 07:19 PM

jswheeler, your recent guests made 16th salt free too. But you beat our time! good job!

  22. Avatar_profilePearglsonn on Dec 29, 2006 07:20 PM

Ahem, former #6 bad. Current #18 good? Or is it all in the timing?

  23. Avatar_profileLemondrphil210 on Dec 29, 2006 07:20 PM

Wow possibly my best AHA moment so far...

  24. FileStrawberrybizarrojoe on Dec 29, 2006 07:21 PM

Man, that took me way too long to figure out. Once again, overthinking rears its ugly head.

  25. FilePepperdajagr on Dec 29, 2006 07:22 PM

Never saw #6. Is it similar to my current [18]?

  26. Avatar_profileOrangejswheeler on Dec 29, 2006 07:22 PM

Good job Leadfoot. Mama bird is in the air and headed for Munich.

  27. Avatar_profileOrangejswheeler on Dec 29, 2006 07:23 PM

    @dajagr-yes

  28. Avatar_profilePearglsonn on Dec 29, 2006 07:24 PM

Not that I mind really, but I think it has just as much salt. Wording was very similar.

  29. FilePepperdajagr on Dec 29, 2006 07:24 PM

Suppose we'll see it gone, then. Oh, well. :)

  30. Avatar_profilePearglsonn on Dec 29, 2006 07:25 PM

I think they'll leave it because at that point 50% had solved it. Now it's up to 63%.

  31. Avatar_profileCherriesmoliver816 on Dec 29, 2006 07:25 PM

You are the 61st fastest Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
You were the 58th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

    ... how is this possible?

    Is this another puzzle?

  32. Avatar_profileOrangejswheeler on Dec 29, 2006 07:27 PM

sorry to go off topic but my post (#26) was my 21st post and my post (#27) was also my 21st post????

  33. Avatar_profileWatermelonInfinityMax on Dec 29, 2006 07:28 PM

It's funny, but I couldn't get this one until my kids came into the room. Then they were like, 'isn't a framing square...' and I smacked my head and knew the answer.

8 minutes, too. I should have called them around minute 1.

  34. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 29, 2006 07:29 PM

jswheeler - it looks like the post numbers update every time for all in this blog (see your #6 post too.

  35. Avatar_profileWatermelonIOTA on Dec 29, 2006 07:32 PM

that's right, this site is built for speed. You have to admit this is a real clean interface.

  36. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 29, 2006 07:38 PM

This is a good interface, however the disappearing entries with no placeholders do tend to make things more difficult to follow.

  37. Avatar_profileCherriesdeerspider on Dec 29, 2006 07:44 PM

Why do I feel like a complete idiot! I've tried the last 5 puzzles and never even gotten close. Am I just that slow or do these take some time to get used to?

  38. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 29, 2006 07:47 PM

I thank Belle's salt from yesterday

  39. Avatar_profilePlumbbnut625 on Dec 29, 2006 07:47 PM

don't worry deerspider - I'm confused tonight too. Sometimes things just click but tonight I need help.

  40. Avatar_profileWatermelonDebb on Dec 29, 2006 07:48 PM

Deerspider - It takes time to get in the swing of things. Last night, I went back and looked at the solutions for some of the past puzzles that I missed. It helped. Plus, you have to get accustomed to the cryptic messages posted here. Once you learn the code, things click much faster.

  41. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 29, 2006 07:55 PM

deerspider - yes, there is some 'getting used to' that can help over time, especially when the puzzles are crafted by the same person. But when the puzzler is in an especially twisted frame of mind...

practice on old puzzles and look through old blogs
    It'll get easier

  42. Avatar_profileWatermelonchili on Dec 29, 2006 08:07 PM

Cute puzzle, it was timed well what with the Saddam hanging...

  43. Avatar_profileLemonGrdngmom6 on Dec 29, 2006 08:19 PM

You have already solved this puzzle.
It took you 6 minutes and 2 seconds.
You are the 84th fastest Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
You were the 147th Tanga member to solve this puzzle

For me this is an accomplishment! For those of you who just stare at these and feel stupid, you are not alone. I have gone back and gotten several but alot were way over my head. I dont know how you guys manage to get them in a matter of seconds! I keep battering myself with them though in hopes I will get one and feel "smart" for a few minutes...lol.

  44. Avatar_profileGrapesmszatlanta on Dec 29, 2006 08:25 PM

Does anyone remember the helpfull #6

  45. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 29, 2006 08:28 PM

The #6 left before I had a chance to notice it. I don't understand how today's #18 would be too salty, but yesterday's salt from Belle really did help me.

  46. Avatar_profileOrangejswheeler on Dec 29, 2006 08:29 PM

    It's similar to #18

  47. Avatar_profileStrawberryJDFester on Dec 29, 2006 08:43 PM

As with most of the cryptic posts on here, it helps to say the clues, or in this case hints, out loud...

  48. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 29, 2006 08:47 PM

Now I'm getting "aha's" about the salt! Of course there's salt in #18. Must be time to go to bed.

  49. Avatar_profileOrangejswheeler on Dec 29, 2006 08:53 PM

leadfoot- my BOC is supposed to be here on Jan. 2nd!

  50. Avatar_profilePearahtitan on Dec 29, 2006 08:55 PM

You are the 30th fastest Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
You were the 180th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

This clicked for me, too. Then I see that my 18 second time is only good for 30th! Man!!

  51. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 29, 2006 08:56 PM

    can't wait to find out...

  52. Avatar_profileCherriestek on Dec 29, 2006 08:57 PM

im very dense tonite... nothing is clicking at all even with all the supposed salt...
only thing that i keep thinking of is that bizarre progressive band, tangerine dream...

  53. AvatarApplebagherra on Dec 29, 2006 08:58 PM

Steel Beam would have been a better second clue.

  54. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Dec 29, 2006 09:03 PM

    tek -
    at the risk of over-seasoning
    use your mind's eye

  55. Avatar_profileCherriestek on Dec 29, 2006 09:08 PM

believe me, i've got all these things dancing around in my head like so many sugarplums and all i have is a headache!!
i understand the salt so far and it just isn't clicking, i know i'm over-thinking it or just frustrated by the computer i'm assembling at the same time.
I'm gonna take a shower, drink a beer and come back to it... i have definitely ruined the average time for this one already..

  56. Avatar_profileCherriestek on Dec 29, 2006 09:11 PM

    nevermind...
    i got it...
i actually had to use my fingers!!!
i know a blonde joke that goes along with the answer, but it would be way too salty

    thanks!!
    off to the showers now..

  57. FileAppleTWhitsett on Dec 29, 2006 09:28 PM

okay, that was a really lame puzzle.

Then again, I'm probably bitter that it took me so long to figure it out.

  58. Avatar_profileCherriesdeerspider on Dec 29, 2006 09:49 PM

You have already solved this puzzle.
It took you 2 hours, 19 minutes and 3 seconds.

You were the 226th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

    Sweet! #18 was very salty!

  59. Avatar_profilePlumdaved on Dec 29, 2006 10:31 PM

    I am utterly lost.

  60. FilePumpkinRickj4029 on Dec 29, 2006 11:31 PM

As with the vast majority of Tanga puzzles, logic has nothing to do with solving this one.

As clues go, the best would have to do with visualizing these objects alongside one another, something that my linear thinking mind would never consider doing without the benefit of someone's prompting.

  61. Avatar_profileLemonCaseyRobinson on Dec 29, 2006 11:35 PM

I feel like the 142nd fastest gun in the west...

You have already solved this puzzle.
It took you 2 hours, 55 minutes and 21 seconds.
You are the 278th fastest Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
You were the 279th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

  62. Avatar_profileStrawberryAthrawn17 on Dec 29, 2006 11:36 PM

A picture is worth 1000 words.

  63. Avatar_profileOrangeBilliam on Dec 30, 2006 12:40 AM

Actually CR, it looks like you're the 278th. But I bet your gunning for 279! ;)

I knew what everything was but just couldn't get there. I was even unfocusing my eyes like you do to see those hidden picture posters to see some pattern! Then I saw the #18 salt and just though 'no way this could be that simple'. *click*

  64. MeKiwipadlocksan on Dec 30, 2006 12:45 AM

This one doesn't click with me anymore than any of the other 20 miserables puzzles I have failed at here.
Now I need to read the salt like a bleeding jackass.
These puzzles make me hate myself. what fun.

  65. Avatar_profileKiwipmboos on Dec 30, 2006 05:18 AM

finally my mind was lubricated... thanks for the salt - so where do you find out how long it took you and when do they start measuring?

  66. Avatar_profileWatermelonFranseca on Dec 30, 2006 05:32 AM

I hate to say it, but I need more salt...

does the "old west wanted poster"-style of it have anything to do with this?

  67. Avatar_profilePlumdaved on Dec 30, 2006 06:11 AM

pmboos: Look at the puzzle again, your stats will be at the top.

I spent an hour or more last night visualizing these things the wrong way. [60] is a good hint. So is [53], for different reasons.

  68. Avatar_profileGrapesmszatlanta on Dec 30, 2006 06:14 AM

#5 was misleading for me. I would disregard it. #53 about the Steel Beam is what finally did it for me. Thanks.

My suggestion is to think VERY SIMPLE. Easy to over think this one.

  69. TangausagiAppleshugyosha on Dec 30, 2006 07:05 AM

Very slow to catch on today. #60 made me realize where I was going wrong.

  70. 2458377427_39b86a6bf0CarrotMilkyway on Dec 30, 2006 08:42 AM

I like my answer better Hangman

  71. Avatar_profilePlumthetikilounge on Dec 30, 2006 09:48 AM

[60] was just the salt I needed. (331st fastest at 17:49 minutes ouch!)

  72. FileEggplantHackmaster12 on Dec 30, 2006 09:52 AM

You have already solved this puzzle.
It took you 4 minutes and 0 seconds.
You are the 188th fastest Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
You were the 381st Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

I was overthinking it for a couple minutes, then I simplified. Very much simplified.
    Let me spell it out for you: S I M P L I F Y

  73. FilePlumtada on Dec 30, 2006 10:09 AM

Actually [53] should be a Steel Column.

  74. FilePlumtada on Dec 30, 2006 10:13 AM

[66] Yes, and the color of the letters & background. Nice!

  75. Avatar_profileCherriesACC on Dec 30, 2006 10:50 AM

Nice. Very simple. I was, of course, trying to overthink it...ha ha!

  76. Avatar_profileGrapestanj on Dec 30, 2006 01:52 PM

    Ouch, just got it. Cute.

don't worry about the style. It makes some sense once you have the answer, but the puzzle is much simpler than that.

  77. Avatar_profileOrangeSoprano on Dec 30, 2006 01:53 PM

Thanks, darkjedi -- your [11] was just what I needed. Talk about overthinking... :þ

  78. MeGrapesgahndalph on Dec 30, 2006 06:53 PM

    thats a slick puzzle

  79. Avatar_profileKiwipmboos on Dec 30, 2006 06:55 PM

Thanks DaveD - I noticed them when I went back to the puzzle - horrible stats - I was better off not knowing... I just need to clear my mind more; become one with the puzzle...

  80. Avatar_profilePlumbbnut625 on Dec 30, 2006 06:55 PM

any last minute hints? - I'm still stuck

  81. Avatar_profileRocketbarbed_oracle on May 02, 2008 01:48 PM

Still don't get this - I find innocuous references are the "keys" to these puzzles. I'm not thinking innocuously enough yet today.

  82. FileTomatotlmitch7 on Jan 04, 2009 08:27 PM

[60] was the only thing here that made this click for me, thanks Rick!
