You solved this puzzle in 35 seconds and were the 2nd Tanga member to solve it. You earned 109 points for solving this.

    How did i DO that?

  2. Avatar_profileOniontinhorn on Dec 18, 2007 07:03 PM

First in 40 seconds. Didn't understand it all, but understood enough.

  3. Avatar_profilePlumfnord on Dec 18, 2007 07:08 PM

Oh, very nice... finally, a puzzle I could get an aha! moment on.

  4. FilePancakesMysticalmelody on Dec 18, 2007 07:08 PM

Yay first three letters and then a guess!

You solved this puzzle in 4 minutes and 37 seconds and were the 10th Tanga member to solve it. You earned 101 points for solving this.

    It's my second top 10.

  5. Avatar_profilePeachjimmiebjr on Dec 18, 2007 07:10 PM

    A pinch of salt?

  6. FilePotatoShinigamiSPQR on Dec 18, 2007 07:11 PM

16th. Coulda done better if I hadn't given up on my original line of thought too quickly.

  7. AvatarDuckiesteph_frolin on Dec 18, 2007 07:11 PM

9th, I wanted to make the top 5...would have settled for sixth

  8. PixelBananaaynjul on Dec 18, 2007 07:12 PM

I love aha moments. 2 letters and plug in the first word that comes to mind when reading the story.

  9. Avatar_profileOrangeveneficus on Dec 18, 2007 07:13 PM

    i'm kind of lost

  10. Avatar_profilePearXelvonar on Dec 18, 2007 08:37 PM

Yay! They posted my puzzle! That was quick. Makes me want to make another one.

Edit: Based on the comments below, it looks like more hints are needed at the solving methods in the puzzles. I'll work on that.

  11. FilePumpkinDisreputable on Dec 18, 2007 07:28 PM

The beginning throws you off cuz you're not clued to use it. I guessed it and then saw the answer.

[8] I just read the story and guessed.

  12. FilePepperpepperhead on Dec 18, 2007 07:30 PM

I got it but cant figure out how I got it

  13. FileRocketPhantaCComics on Dec 18, 2007 07:31 PM

I got it but I know I didn't actually do it right. It was partially a guess, slightly educated but mostly a flat out guess.

  14. FileBananaukkonen on Dec 18, 2007 07:32 PM

You solved this puzzle in 2 minutes and 34 seconds and were the 3rd Tanga member to solve it. You earned 108 points for solving this.

2nd top 10 for me tonight. Not bad for 4 days on the board. :)
Yeah, I had an idea, had the first couple letters and guessed the rest.

  15. FileSailboatESQuire on Dec 18, 2007 07:43 PM

Remember that each step you take towards solving this gets you closer to the answer.

  16. FileBananarissa2sassy on Dec 18, 2007 07:57 PM

Any salt on how to solve this?

  17. FileKiwiMonkeyArcher on Dec 18, 2007 08:26 PM

I tried 'solving' it, came up with two wrong answers, then just typed the thought that popped into my head when I first saw the puzzle and got it right. I have no idea how you solve for this answer...

  18. FileBananaukkonen on Dec 18, 2007 08:30 PM

Once you figure out where to start, then start stepping down the answer. The steps get smaller as you get closer to the end

  19. FilePotatorevchewie on Dec 18, 2007 08:30 PM

[5] [9] [16] "Six steps", but where to apply them?

I never got an aha moment. Took [11]'s comment about guessing and started plugging in every word I could think of that might apply to the story until something popped up "Congratulations". Then stared at the whole puzzle, trying things, until I could see where the answer might possibly be figured out "logically" to backsolve.

  20. FileGarlicmartinp13 on Dec 18, 2007 08:32 PM

    Backsolving was MUCH easier.

  21. 200px-monarch_01Peachcagedsoul on Dec 18, 2007 09:08 PM

I tried several ways to solve the puzzle, then tried just plugging in what I assume are relevant guesses, but its getting me nowhere.

  22. FileClockJewelia on Dec 18, 2007 09:35 PM

You solved this puzzle in 8 seconds and were the 12th Tanga member to solve it. You earned 99 points for solving this.

But I didn't really feel I earned them until [19] and [20] helped me understand the logic of it.

  23. Avatar_profileAppleAlkara on Dec 18, 2007 09:54 PM

First word I guessed and I see it backsolved. Interesting puzzle. Thanks for the salt, [15] and [18].

  24. Avatar_profileGrapesblb on Dec 18, 2007 10:35 PM

Guessed the word and then it took me a bit to figure out how to backsolve it.

  25. Avatar_profilePeachweasel75 on Dec 19, 2007 12:17 AM

I guessed it after trying things for a while. Not-so-sure what I was supposed to do to figure it out yet though. Duh.

  26. FileSailboatyelowflower on Dec 19, 2007 02:44 AM

    I think I need a different kind of puzzle, I haven't a clue. :o(

  27. Avatar_profileOrangeveneficus on Dec 19, 2007 04:58 AM

i am so utterly hopeless on this one! with all the salt, i still have no idea where to start.

  28. FileAppleragulo on Dec 19, 2007 05:44 AM

Ok, I have the answer, guessed it. I studied the puzzle, and I believe I backsolved it. Could someone send me a message so I can figure out if I figured out the right solution or not, because the solution I have seems so obscure that it can't possibly be the correct way.

  29. FileDuckiedavey3 on Dec 19, 2007 06:30 AM

After reading all the comments above, I was able to solve it by guessing, and now I can backsolve it, but I still don't see how I could have solved it directly.

  30. N1003868024_27949_9972BananaSchwade on Dec 19, 2007 06:59 AM

Hmm, I guessed and got it, but I have no idea how.

  31. New_scout_logoCheeseburgerscoutmom on Dec 19, 2007 07:48 AM

[15] That is some of the best salt!!

  32. Avatar_profilePeachjimmiebjr on Dec 19, 2007 08:45 AM

So...the way to get this puzzle is by guessing?

    Great...

  33. FileGrapesmadhatternalice on Dec 19, 2007 09:13 AM

that dwarf is so evil, he might have a mark upon him...

  34. Avatar_profileAppleAlkara on Dec 19, 2007 01:04 PM

    EDIT: nvm

  35. Avatar_profileAppleSartredes on Dec 19, 2007 09:57 AM

I got the answer by guessing but I'm not sure I see how to get it by solving the puzzle.

  36. FileRocketteeje on Dec 19, 2007 09:58 AM

no flippin' clue, but guessed and got it.

  37. Bunny91Garlicheatherlouwho on Dec 19, 2007 10:13 AM

HARD one! I guessed, too. Got it right on the 10th guess. I can see now where the steps apply, but I had to backsolve.

  38. FileAceDavidL on Dec 19, 2007 10:43 AM

I'm amused. I had the right solve method but applied it in the wrong direction and got gibberish. Made a guess and got it right! Can't believe how close I was to actually solving it on my first try.

  39. FilePeachWirelessFox on Dec 19, 2007 11:25 AM

Wow...first time to solve a hard one without help. :) Kind of a little easy for being a hard puzzle...but whatever.

EDIT: Oh wow and having reread the puzzle I now see how one is supposed to get the answer. Cool.

  40. 200px-monarch_01Peachcagedsoul on Dec 19, 2007 12:18 PM

    Still no clue... oh well.

  41. FileAppledlandon2000 on Dec 19, 2007 12:25 PM

Any salt with reference to the source of the evil dwarf? I must not know my fairy tales very well.

  42. Avatar_profileAppleAlkara on Dec 19, 2007 01:00 PM

[42], the evil dwarf's name is made up for purposes of this puzzle. I really like the solve-method of this puzzle, in hindsight. The best salts are [15] and [18].. good luck!

  43. FilePeachSkittlebrau on Dec 19, 2007 01:34 PM

had the solve method right the first time.... just miscounted the steps in my first effort and threw myself off the trail!

  44. 200px-monarch_01Peachcagedsoul on Dec 19, 2007 02:35 PM

Can anyone give salt on where to start, or how to approach this one?? Its great that [15] and [18] are salt, but if you don't already know the answer they sound like vague philosophies...

  45. 200px-monarch_01Peachcagedsoul on Dec 19, 2007 02:42 PM

Okay, finally guessed it. After about 20 different things. I went back to my original method and tried to backsolve... and still don't see how you get it. I get 4 letters that are in the word (not in order), but if I continue with the method, the letters are useless... which explains my confusion... I'll have to see the actual method to solving this, I don't see it.

  46. Sc002a57f6Pumpkinrunart on Dec 19, 2007 03:44 PM

sorry, don't get this one. is the answer contained in the elf's name by counting down?

  47. FileAppledlandon2000 on Dec 19, 2007 04:29 PM

OK I get it now... using the "steps" as [15] suggested (although that's not how I would word it)

  48. 200px-monarch_01Peachcagedsoul on Dec 19, 2007 05:04 PM

[47] it is but I couldn't tell you how you're supposed to find it.

  49. FileAppledlandon2000 on Dec 19, 2007 05:08 PM

[47] & [49] maybe think of the steps as sections instead.

  50. AvatarSailboatjjcool on Dec 19, 2007 08:43 PM

    huh?

  51. FileGrapesStexe on Dec 20, 2007 02:23 AM

Huh... I put the answer down but it did'nt take it. Maybe I used a weird ending before (I was guessing). Would have never gotten it otherwise.
