Whoa, this freaks me out a bit, haha.

Nice!
You solved this puzzle in 5 minutes and 22 seconds and were the 7th Tanga member to solve it.

sorry, double post

Yay 8th!

You need to use this site a lot to have a chance I think...

Cool! My first published puzzle! Sorry to freak you out princess!

Wow, 13th on both puzzles.

I had the wrong method at the start. I actually spent 4 minutes anagramming it. It makes nothing. However, someone on that list has changed their avatar.

[7] Really? Crap! I was afraid that might happen! Let me see if I can update the image.

You solved this puzzle in 4 minutes and 54 seconds and were the 21st Tanga member to solve it. You earned 89 points for solving this.

Nice. Everything I needed is here somewhere. I didn't even need to figure each one out.

fun...had to dig for some of them but knew most of them quickly. Still unsure about 2, but was able to solve without them. I actually had an idea for a puzzle like this myself back in the day when I was submitting puzzles daily. Alas, I had to go back to work :(

I went down the wrong path trying "real" words first. When I remembered a few more of the people, it hit me.

Cool idea for a puzzle. Fun and solvable.

great puzzle big slick, hope you submit more

[7] OK, I updated the image with the new avatar. This will probably screw up people that knew the old one, but should help newbies a bit more.

Who is the master of the building blocks?

[15] what kind of blocks might a kid use to build with?

[7] Me too :( If I had the right method right away I'd have finished much faster.

[15] I don't know and should. Get the rest and you should still be able to figure it out.

[16] Oh, right! :D

[5] Haha, no worries, it was just so meta....Had a bit of a Ron Burgundy moment there. (And it was an opportunity to leave some salt...)

Overall great puzzle, BigSlick!

I never pay attention to WHO creates the puzzles! :(

Got it as soon as I realized I wasn't using one bit of info on each entry. I did have to look up in the leaderboards for most of the entries, though. In fact, I only got #2 from the image alone.

Is there any way to search on partial usernames?

Hey! That's me in there....whoa, never been PART of the ACTUAL puzzle before - FREEEEKY

[23] There's no way to even search for whole usernames...(yet?)

Crap - I am the one who changed their avatar - sorry guys, new year...new pic...

Really cool, BigSlick!

Awesome puzzle - I liked it!

[28] Glad you liked it! This is my (surprise) tribute to you, princess, and many of the other Tanganites that have made this site so much fun!

Yeah, I didn't realize you had changed your icon; I just saw the cat a couple of days ago - luckily, it was easy enough to change - thanks [7] for pointing it out.

That was super cute. Thanks, BigSlick!

Without the ability to search the site, it seems a bit too clique-ish. I've been around for a long time (not super active, but I started with the puzzles before they sold product...) and I don't know several of these.

Nice puzzle. Just missed the top 100 tonight.

[31] Sorry jeep; when I first created this puzzle (a few weeks ago) most of these users were within the first few pages of the archives; I did notice that now a few are in pretty deep. I know it can be a bit of a pain, but if you keep clicking through a page at a time, you will find them all eventually.

[31] Folks who have contributed a lot of puzzles likely to be relatively high on a few leaderboards.

It appears that I need more Friends ...

Gah. I have the names, I am pretty sure. Tried two different tracks with no aha so far. :( Need sleep soon.

I *think* I like the idea, as long as this kind of thing doesn't pup up too often, as it is a bit cliquey. I knew about half off the top of my head before I went scrolling through leaderboards, but I can see how it could discourage people.

ETA: Double Gah. As usual, had the aha right after I posted this. That's what I get for being late to the party.

Nice way to remember old acquaintances . . .

Edit: Don't worry if you're missing some of the names--once you apply the key, the answer will begin to take shape. [34] can help you find the key.

You solved this puzzle in 40 minutes and 54 seconds and were the 119th Tanga member to solve it...

Painful...

that was pretty cool.

[33] i found looking at friends lists quite helpful along with the leaderboard

I didn't want to comment too quickly, as I seem to be part of this puzzle, but, now that the top hundred has been settled for a while now, I feel I can jump in. Sorry to any who might have struggled with me. My activity took a serious dip over the Christmas/New Years span. We had family gatherings each and every day starting on the 24th (though, this does include a 2 day stint up north for a funeral... not exactly what one wants to be doing amid the holiday season.)

Anyway, thanks BigSlick for the shoutout. Fun puzzle.

I got all nine names, but have no idea what to do with them.

Self-salt post. Sorry I wasn't here earlier.

Loved the puzzle but went blind searching little teeny weeny avatars :)
jk

Hey BigSlick!
Nice Puzzle :-)

Sorry I wasn't here earlier also - didn't even know my hypercross was up until this morning!

Great puzzle & my first top, uh, two hundred. ;-)

[42] Ah, I see you just joined up - welcome! Check out this FAQ:

http://www.tanga.com/forum/blogs/980_PUZZLER_FAQS

especially under the question, "And what the heck are “Tanga Numbers” anyway?"

You need to determine what the appropriate "Tanga Numbers" are and then figure out how to apply them. If you still need help, feel free to send me a private message, or repost here. I should be monitoring things off and on throughout the day.

Congrats on your first puzzle, BigSlick. All but two of those people are my "friends" so it was easy for me. How could you leave out renfurdson, the god of all puzzledom?

Thanks for the tip on Tanga numbers. I've seen that reference so many times and never new what it was.

You should also try donimo, robrizob, dajagr, workerbee, dsmeyer, and mctmike. I was solving the old puzzles last month, and I noticed they had published many interesting puzzles. I also like apparatus and fachanlahd, and of course, renfurdson.

I really enjoyed this puzzle. It was fun going out and finding these people on the site.

OK ... I got it. Thanks for the help.

[48], [50] Yeah, I wanted to include a few more but I had several problems. Once I came up with an answer, I only had so many letters. Some of the usernames had few or no letters I could use, or were already used up (like for renfurdson, I already had tons of n's). I went with those for which I could create a decent clue to go with the avatar (like donimo - I still can't come up with one for that, unless it's a dyslexic domino player!). Finally, some users had no avatar other than the default one (for instance, I had a cool clue for dragontrainer, but with no identifiable avatar, it made things too hard).

Anyways, I am glad (most) people liked the puzzle!

[53] Oh yeah, I like dragontrainer's puzzles, too.

Can't find the slice of pie anywhere

Loved it. As well as the tanga gods (at least a few of them) getting their due props.

[55] Yeah, that was one of 'em that was a lot closer to the front page in the archives when I created the puzzle. If you go back to early to mid November, there are a number of puzzles by this user, including one - interestingly enough - that has to do with pie, errrr, pi. Ah, what the heck, let's put it this way: you would be "unlucky" to find the correct page in the archives.

No fun just tracking down names... especially when they have changed or been distributed throughout the list!

I have been busy and have not been on Tanga for a few days. Then a friend said something about me being In a puzzle. So I had to come and look.

BigSlick , a very nice puzzle!

"I'll make you famous!"

[58] The only thing that changed was one user's icon, which I corrected very soon after the puzzle was posted. The suggestion that several users suggested to look at friend's lists and the leaderboards is probably actually a lot easier than looking through the archives, since the icons show up on those pages. In any case, I guess I should have submitted this puzzle right after creating it instead of sitting on it for several weeks; that way, some of the users wouldn't have been lost so deep in the archives.

Edit: oh, also, I just happened to get lucky in that 2 of the users in question appeared as puzzle submitters the same day!

All the talk about avatars finally got me to upload mine, although I might redo it as a bitmap instead of a jpeg, since it got a little blurry.

ok, got the names, can't figure out the key...

[62] The key is in plain view. You probably are missing the same thing I was. Are there any numbers you are NOT using yet?

Ok, I'm still too green, I still didn't get the Tanga Numbers clue, even after reading the FAQ. I think I get it now, after seeing the solution. Hopefully that will help me with future puzzles.
