I had the wrong method at the start. I actually spent 4 minutes anagramming it. It makes nothing. However, someone on that list has changed their avatar.
fun...had to dig for some of them but knew most of them quickly. Still unsure about 2, but was able to solve without them. I actually had an idea for a puzzle like this myself back in the day when I was submitting puzzles daily. Alas, I had to go back to work :(
Got it as soon as I realized I wasn't using one bit of info on each entry. I did have to look up in the leaderboards for most of the entries, though. In fact, I only got #2 from the image alone.
[28] Glad you liked it! This is my (surprise) tribute to you, princess, and many of the other Tanganites that have made this site so much fun!
Yeah, I didn't realize you had changed your icon; I just saw the cat a couple of days ago - luckily, it was easy enough to change - thanks [7] for pointing it out.
Without the ability to search the site, it seems a bit too clique-ish. I've been around for a long time (not super active, but I started with the puzzles before they sold product...) and I don't know several of these.
[31] Sorry jeep; when I first created this puzzle (a few weeks ago) most of these users were within the first few pages of the archives; I did notice that now a few are in pretty deep. I know it can be a bit of a pain, but if you keep clicking through a page at a time, you will find them all eventually.
Gah. I have the names, I am pretty sure. Tried two different tracks with no aha so far. :( Need sleep soon.
I *think* I like the idea, as long as this kind of thing doesn't pup up too often, as it is a bit cliquey. I knew about half off the top of my head before I went scrolling through leaderboards, but I can see how it could discourage people.
ETA: Double Gah. As usual, had the aha right after I posted this. That's what I get for being late to the party.
I didn't want to comment too quickly, as I seem to be part of this puzzle, but, now that the top hundred has been settled for a while now, I feel I can jump in. Sorry to any who might have struggled with me. My activity took a serious dip over the Christmas/New Years span. We had family gatherings each and every day starting on the 24th (though, this does include a 2 day stint up north for a funeral... not exactly what one wants to be doing amid the holiday season.)
Anyway, thanks BigSlick for the shoutout. Fun puzzle.
especially under the question, "And what the heck are âTanga Numbersâ anyway?"
You need to determine what the appropriate "Tanga Numbers" are and then figure out how to apply them. If you still need help, feel free to send me a private message, or repost here. I should be monitoring things off and on throughout the day.
Congrats on your first puzzle, BigSlick. All but two of those people are my "friends" so it was easy for me. How could you leave out renfurdson, the god of all puzzledom?
You should also try donimo, robrizob, dajagr, workerbee, dsmeyer, and mctmike. I was solving the old puzzles last month, and I noticed they had published many interesting puzzles. I also like apparatus and fachanlahd, and of course, renfurdson.
[48], [50] Yeah, I wanted to include a few more but I had several problems. Once I came up with an answer, I only had so many letters. Some of the usernames had few or no letters I could use, or were already used up (like for renfurdson, I already had tons of n's). I went with those for which I could create a decent clue to go with the avatar (like donimo - I still can't come up with one for that, unless it's a dyslexic domino player!). Finally, some users had no avatar other than the default one (for instance, I had a cool clue for dragontrainer, but with no identifiable avatar, it made things too hard).
Anyways, I am glad (most) people liked the puzzle!
[55] Yeah, that was one of 'em that was a lot closer to the front page in the archives when I created the puzzle. If you go back to early to mid November, there are a number of puzzles by this user, including one - interestingly enough - that has to do with pie, errrr, pi. Ah, what the heck, let's put it this way: you would be "unlucky" to find the correct page in the archives.
[58] The only thing that changed was one user's icon, which I corrected very soon after the puzzle was posted. The suggestion that several users suggested to look at friend's lists and the leaderboards is probably actually a lot easier than looking through the archives, since the icons show up on those pages. In any case, I guess I should have submitted this puzzle right after creating it instead of sitting on it for several weeks; that way, some of the users wouldn't have been lost so deep in the archives.
Edit: oh, also, I just happened to get lucky in that 2 of the users in question appeared as puzzle submitters the same day!
Ok, I'm still too green, I still didn't get the Tanga Numbers clue, even after reading the FAQ. I think I get it now, after seeing the solution. Hopefully that will help me with future puzzles.
