Note that the authors don't get to set whether a puzzle is "easy" or "hard". That's done by whomever publishes it.
Personally, I think this one is borderline... but more towards the easy side. It's likely that most people are overthinking it... and overlooking an important part of the puzzle (not the background).
[11] I'm sure there's some wisdom in your words, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what the green numbers or purple boxes are supposed to tell me.
So, this mythical "important" part we're overlooking, which isn't:
- The background
- The colors of the boxes
That pretty much leaves the numbers.. which we could hardly be overlooking, or the fact that there seem to be 5 squares of some size or (unimportant) color on the screen.
Ok, the colors don't matter, the background doesn't matter (then why is it there?), so: we have four numbered squares, numbered in some order. I'm just not seeing it.
Everything in that puzzle was misleading. The added and unnecessary colors and background completely hid the real solve method. If it wasn't for the creator telling me where to look, I never would have solved it. A red herring does not a good puzzle make (and multiple red herrings make it even worse). I actually had an elegant solve method that resulted in the word "job", but alas, it wasn't right. It was wrong because it made use of US currency.
Murdoctor's puzzles are usually great. Not in this case. As Ninjoo notes, everything here was misleading, and there was just plain nothing to indicate the right thing to do.
[26][27] Well, I originally just had the numbers in the boxes... but thought that was too plain, so I added in the background to tie in with the answer. Sorry if that turned out to be misleading...
I figured this one out lying in bed last night... not nearly as difficult as I made it out to be. And while it may not be the gem that we've come to expect from Murdoctor, it was still an interesting puzzle and had me thinking about it long after I had given up online.

[4] Well, I don't know the definition, but I know it when I see it. (And I'm not seeing it.)

Easy for Murdoctor and easy for mere mortals are two different measures.

[15] There are 4, actually... a square for each number.
[16] Once you solve the puzzle, you'll understand why the background is there.

[17] the 5th is the square containing the background, no?

[18] Ah, well that's the whole square puzzle image... I wasn't counting that.
All you need to solve it are the numbers and their squares.

Edit: Like the solve method...my original thought process led to an interesting solution, but much harder than the actual solution.

[19] that was a lot of sodium, like Ramen noodles, but it saved me... thank you
(no, Ramen noodles will not help you solve this puzzle)

I've tanga'd my way into every possible corner of those squares...but nothing!
Edit: I apparently wasn't factoring in one of the corners. Post & Solve. Nice puzzle...
