You solved this puzzle in 1 minute and 14 seconds and were the 45th Tanga member to solve it. You earned 37 points for solving this.

  5. FileEggplantcllumley on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:06 PM

I got this just by the bottom pics

  6. FileStrawberrydan138 on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:09 PM

I have it, but cant get the punctuation right

  7. Avatar_profileLemonLilyDC8 on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:10 PM

This is easy for a newbie like me.

  8. FilePeachdcmacphee on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:10 PM

    spelling spelling

  9. FilePancakeshatemachine on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:13 PM

[2]Every time I finish the cryptopix in the top 100 I only get 10 points. 66th on this one = 10 points. Stinks.

  10. FileStrawberrydan138 on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:13 PM

    [6]
    Make that NO punctuation.

  11. FilePeachlaniwalk on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:33 PM

Ducky needs to learn how to use punctuation. I would have had it in about 5 seconds.

  12. FileCarrotblahmcblah on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:38 PM

    [11] Same :(

  13. FileCarrotblahmcblah on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:39 PM

Although I should note that I absolutely hate it when people use apostrophes like that. I just assumed it was going to be that way... :/

  14. FileClockJewelia on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:39 PM

[11] Actually, I believe Ducky is correct, as there are no possessives, just plurals.

  15. FileGarlicBlueDevilDucky on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:41 PM

I know how to use punctuation. However, when I googled the phrase, I found at least 3 different ways to punctuate it. I opted for the simplest way...none.

Oh, and at least 10 different reasons as how this phrase came to be.

  16. FileGarlicHope2002 on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:40 PM

There is no reason to have any punctuation in this. As a test solver, I can attest to seeing him check this.

  17. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:51 PM

FWIW, a phrase search in google results in 12,100 results for unpunctuated and 35,100 for punctuated.

  18. FileGarlicHope2002 on Sun Jan 27, 2008 07:52 PM

There is no contraction or possessive. Though it is common to use in this kind of plural, it is simply a common mistake. The internet is filled with common mistakes.

  19. FileCarrotblahmcblah on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:00 PM

[18] Nuh-uh, the winner of the Googlefight is always right. All hail our lord and master Google!

  20. FileCarrotblahmcblah on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:01 PM

[18] Also, if it's on Wikipedia, it must be true.

  21. AssetsSailboatkayvon on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:05 PM

[17] Google doesn't really search based on punctuation, based on my experience.

  22. FilePeachlaniwalk on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:08 PM

I just know it has been spelled WITH punctuation for about a million years.... because I am that old.

  23. FilePlumhistorysteph on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:09 PM

    What are those green things?

  24. AvatarCarrotrobrizob on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:10 PM

[21] Well, it can, if you know how to make it.

[18] This is a classic prescriptive versus descriptive linguistic debate. You fall on the former side, I on the latter. Regardless, anybody with a little puzzling know-how would probably try both.

  25. FilePlumhistorysteph on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:10 PM

nvm, got it-- mine don't look like that. :)

  26. FilePlumhistorysteph on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:10 PM

I teach English. No comma needed because it's not possessive or a contraction. Just like you don't need one with 1950s.

  27. FileRadishMalllkaV on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:15 PM

The variety of punctuation vs. no punctuation was tiresome to sift through on Google!

  28. FileCarrotblahmcblah on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:19 PM

[26] You teach that apostrophes are commas in your English class? :P

  29. FileEggjohninc on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:20 PM

[26] Comma? You sure you teach English?

  30. FileSailboatdagibbs on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:25 PM

Got it from last 3 pics (in 25s), then the first pic made sense, still dunno who the 2nd pic is.

I think no punctuation is correct English.

  31. FileGarlicHope2002 on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:27 PM

[26] I hate it when I do things like that!

  32. FileOnionJohn on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:30 PM

I work for the department of punctuation, so I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies. Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about. But trust me.... You don't.

(with thanks to Fark for the cliche)

  33. FileGarlicHope2002 on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:40 PM

[32] Good thing we have an expert!

I just found out that this is a very active subject. The British did a study about the overuse of apostrophes and the German even have a word for the misuse of apostrophes. Funny

  34. FileGarlicChupper on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:43 PM

I'll take mine in pints, please

  35. FileCarrotblahmcblah on Sun Jan 27, 2008 08:44 PM

Pasted it on the site before, but here it is again, in case you missed it: http://www.angryflower.com/bobsqu.gif

  36. AvatarSailboatjjcool on Sun Jan 27, 2008 09:15 PM

where are the appropriate punctuation marks?

  37. FileBananaIronSausage on Sun Jan 27, 2008 09:56 PM

Any help would be cool. Drawing a BIG blank.

  38. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Sun Jan 27, 2008 10:12 PM

[3] Guessing the guy... Christian DIOR? It would work, but not sure why he'd be outside in front of a cave-like thing?

  39. FileGarlicBlueDevilDucky on Sun Jan 27, 2008 10:22 PM

[38] it is him...he is actually measuring a skirt length. I know his picture is a little obscure, but thought the rest of it gave away the answer enough without recognizing who he was.

  40. Current.deal.avOnionmonocle on Sun Jan 27, 2008 11:04 PM

[18] say it aint so! the world as I know it has come crashing down around me. if I cant believe everything I read on the internet what can I believe? :)

(no commas were harmed in the writing of this post... no 12s either.)

  41. FilePlumdougtaylor1 on Mon Jan 28, 2008 06:19 AM

[11] I guess if there were punctuations, whatever those might be, you would have had it in 5 seconds and I would have taken longer......?

You solved this puzzle in 5 seconds and were the 393rd Tanga member to solve it.

  42. FileGarlicChupper on Mon Jan 28, 2008 06:19 AM

[33] What's the German word for misuse of apostrophes?

  43. FileGrapesMajiken on Mon Jan 28, 2008 08:53 AM

Puzzles like this are exactly why I don't do puzzles. You can see the answer clearly, but not knowing if the maker passed basic English in school can really hurt your chances of getting it right.

    I give up.

[Edit} Okay, I worded this way wrong, and I ended up looking like a jerk. I didn't intend to call anyone names, or imply stupidity. My bad. To me it's just frustrating when instead of the obvious answer you have to continually play around to get it 'exactly,' even if that may not be what some may feel is grammatically correct.
It was also early and the coffee-maker is on the fritz, so I was already grumpy.
My apologies to Ducky. I wasn't trying to disparage you in any way. To prevent further embarassment, I resolve to not attempt any more puzzles and to keep my big fat trap shut.

  44. FileGarlicBlueDevilDucky on Mon Jan 28, 2008 09:34 AM

[43] Ouch! You obviously didn't pass basic English in school or you would have been able to read the previous 42 posts. In particular posts [10] [18] [26] [33] [35] ....

edit: Thank you so much for the apology. I really appreciate it.

I wish you wouldn't give up on the puzzles as they can be educational as well as entertaining. That and the friendships that you can make with the people in the posts are great. That being said, I do understand that not all puzzles are for everyone and I respect the fact that this one (or others) may not be for you. Thanks again for your nice words.

  45. Current.deal.avOnionmonocle on Mon Jan 28, 2008 07:06 AM

there is really only two ways this could be. I'm not sure how one could keep trying without success for very long... unless they just don't have it... in which case the punctuation is not the problem. I tried one way and then the other. I thought it was a fine puzzle. I didn't do too good in English so I won't argue what should or should not be there. :)

  46. FileGarlicHope2002 on Mon Jan 28, 2008 07:07 AM

[43] Why do people have to be jerks? There are two popularly accepted forms and, if those are capitals, only one. However, there is no good reason for the punctuation or for you to not read former comments.

  47. FileGarlicHope2002 on Mon Jan 28, 2008 07:09 AM

[42] It is Deppenapostroph meaning "idiot's apostrophes".

  48. FilePlumkingarthur1976 on Mon Jan 28, 2008 07:13 AM

The punctuation was the least of my worries!!!! I kept adding ing onto the end of the first word and couldn't for the life of me figure out why I was getting it wrong!!!

  49. FileGarlicBlueDevilDucky on Mon Jan 28, 2008 09:34 AM

Heh... I just checked...the puzzle has nearly 500 solves!

  50. FileGarlicHope2002 on Mon Jan 28, 2008 07:36 AM

Let me clarify that I think it is perfectly fine to dislike and criticize a puzzle, but not to call the puzzle maker names. That crosses a line that is very clear. I personally got some very good criticism from the few puzzles I've had published, but don't think questioning someone's intelligence is acceptable.

Ducky knew that there were two options here and knew that people would be upset no matter which way he did it. He chose the one which was listed as more correct. As someone else said, there are really only two options and if you get it wrong the first time you have to remove two things and resubmit.

  51. FileBananatheChony on Mon Jan 28, 2008 08:19 AM

[43] Unlike you I saw the answer clearly and was only thinking, "Is this with or without punctuation?" I chose wisely the first time, if I didn't, I would've been left with one other possibility.

So either you didn't see the answer clearly, or gave up after one try. In either case, you must sit at the kiddie table. Q.E.D.

  52. FileStrawberryco72 on Mon Jan 28, 2008 09:02 AM

    -ees

  53. FileGrapesunisonic23 on Mon Jan 28, 2008 09:57 AM

Thanks [10] That's what I needed. I also solved it without the picture of the unknown guy.

  54. FilePumpkinBigSlick on Mon Jan 28, 2008 11:29 AM

[45], [50], [51] Exactly! I thought the same thing as theChony, but I chose unwisely. Big deal, so I removed the apostrophes and hit submit again and still finished in 28 seconds. I really don't see the point of the complaining on this one unless - like others have said - you really didn't have the correct answer. There are some puzzles that require you to guess if the author used a contraction vs. not using one, or which of about 5 different types of possible spelling/punctuation they used, but this aint' one of 'em - it was pretty straight forward.

  55. FileGarlicHope2002 on Mon Jan 28, 2008 11:54 AM

This came in my podcasts today and seemed wayyyyyy too appropriate.

Yep, lousy punctuation killed me on this one, too...

  57. FileEggplantcllumley on Mon Jan 28, 2008 07:06 PM

    no new puzzle today??

  58. Photo_4Grapesredneon on Wed Jan 30, 2008 08:14 AM
