Just to add insult to injury, k1w1, [3] was the salt I needed to solve the puzzle. :-) I *am* American, but am un-American in that I don't watch TV. I had no knowledge of said advert. The first step was easy enough. Following from that to the solution, not so much (for me, at least).

I hate puzzles that rely on seeing an ad that is only shown in one country.
