I know who that is but its not helping me
I think he did a show on PBS called Reading Rainbow
Do I have to print this out and fold it? Then fill in the party details and mail the invitation?
(That is not salt)
I have something that fits with the date and the rainbow, but not the right thing, I guess.
SALT: The three clue answers are all part of a group of four things, and you need to fill in the missing one. The facing/direction of the clues is a subtle hint, but not necessary for solving. No folding is necessary, either...
I got it from the 1st and 4th, and it still took me a minute to realize how the date fit in, even knowing what it was supposed to mean.
Wow, I started out in a totally wrong direction, by combining the date with the first word of the show. That is the birth date of the composer of "Over the Rainbow".
There is no need to combine the date at all, and it isn't the first word from the title.
"Sorry, 'the' is not correct. Please try again."
this is not an easy OWW.
this was sort of painful, it wasn't until I wrote down what I thought the pictures were when it hit me...had me sidetracked for the longest time...February 15 being International Gumdrop day had me thinking about CandyLand - funny that that ended up being close but so far.
nice puzzle

Wow, can't believe I hit International Gumdrop day AND the B-Day for the composer of "Over the Rainbow" in pretty much a freak accident of a clue. I should probably do more research before including that date, but I couldn't figure out another way to code that clue.
That said, this is one of the first puzzles I submitted to the site (long ago, I might add) and was wondering how people would respond to it. A lot of my local testers had a problem figuring out what to solve for, but I thought it was pretty clear. Any suggestions for future puzzle making? I've been working on improving this set design for other puzzles, but I still struggle with making what you're solving for clear. Any advice would be appreciated.
SALT: Murdoctor's salt in [4] is pretty much all you need to find the solve method. The hints that will be available later are also pretty helpful for sequencing the whole thing as well.
[9]
my comment wasn't a negative, I liked the puzzle, I just got thrown off by those freak accidents - which is pretty funny...and now that I get it, I should have gotten it a lot faster (should have paid more attention to [4], heed the Murdoctor)
...and I'm thinking Monopoly - Chance, Short Line, Reading and I have no idea about Feb 15.
Cardzmaster:
One of my mantras for puzzlewriting is "If it isn't quite working, perhaps it's time to give it up." I can understand the feeling of "there's no other way for me to clue X", but if the only way you can think of isn't especially good, it's possible that the puzzle has to go on the "well, it was a good idea, but..." pile.
So: yes, this was a really good idea for a puzzle. But the date is two steps removed from what it's cluing, and solvers are so likely to look for the importance of the date that they'll probably miss the intended path. The upper left picture is better, but also has the problem that there are four different words it could be cluing (two-word show title, first and last name of the host).
At any rate, keep writing! :-)
[11] You are on the right TRACK, almost
a letter or symbol between the month and date would have helped
Arghhhhh, I salted too much without even knowing it ... sorry!
[9] Just a suggestion, a faded background picture of the ____ ____ would have helped tremendously here. I had trouble finding my direction.
Otherwise - nice puzzle! :)
[16] The funny thing is: I made two copies of this puzzle and distributed them to friends for testing. The better one had an...object...centered in the middle of the puzzle. When I went to upload (over 6 months ago), I grabbed the wrong puzzle and that hint got left out. Feel a bit stupid about it now, but oh well. Life goes on, and I still think it's a solid puzzle concept.
Hope you all have enjoyed this so far!
