Punctuation should be required for all puzzles! I'm rating this puzzle five stars for fun just to make up for all the haters who failed high school English
It's really an easy enough thing to do in perl or php to strip punctuation out of an answer.
Let creators put it in and let solvers either do it or not. Programmatically, it is easy to filter the solution and guess at runtime then compare. Does anybody really care if "salty" can equal "!!!s,,a---l;t'y!@#$"?
[42] YES! Please!!! I am sick and tired of a lot of things, admittedly, but trying to figure out someone else's punctuation (or lack thereof) is in my top ten!!!
[40] The '?' at the end that is already provided is the punctuation for the question, "Is it ______?"
That question mark does not belong in your answer at all, and if the answer requires a question mark, it is not incorrect to include one in addition to the one provided at the end.
If there is a simple programming fix, they should do it.
Most people don't like guessing punctuation. For the few that do, perhaps they can add a new game type:
"Guess what punctuation rules the puzzle creator used!"
Perhaps use the "random questions" game to see which solution users like the most.

[34] Exactly! Scrub the punctuation, change all remaining text to lowercase, remove extraneous white-space.
A very simple regex could probably accomplish all this in a single step!
