    where's the next page???

  2. FileSailboatsteve59 on Feb 29, 2008 07:03 PM

    [1] solve it tomorrow?

  3. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:05 PM

Well, the obvious method is yielding nothing...

  4. FilePancakesMysticalmelody on Feb 29, 2008 07:11 PM

    [1] That's a red herring.

  5. FilePancakesjmcintyre on Feb 29, 2008 07:16 PM

4th - best finish in a while. Nice puzzle, Jewelia (as usual).

  6. FileSailboatchubbchsr on Feb 29, 2008 07:30 PM

Could someone start shaking the shaker please?

  7. FileCheeseburgerQurqirishDragon on Feb 29, 2008 07:34 PM

[6] I could use a little here, considering I've given all mine away on the hypercross :-)

I'd guess "leap" figures into it somehow, based on the other puzzles tonight ....

  8. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:35 PM

    14th...I'll take it!

  9. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:36 PM

I was looking for a difficult solve method. Sometimes the simplest things go unnoticed.

  10. FileGarlicHope2002 on Feb 29, 2008 07:39 PM

    I've tried really simple.

  11. FilePumpkinBluefaith on Feb 29, 2008 07:40 PM

I noticed a clock in the background.... does that count as 'simple?'

  12. AvatarDuckiesteph_frolin on Feb 29, 2008 07:43 PM

I noticed the clock as well, tried the time, still getting nothing...where are you sending me Jewelia?

  13. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:44 PM

[10] Not simple enough. When did all this occur??

  14. FilePumpkinBluefaith on Feb 29, 2008 07:44 PM

I can't even make out what time it is.
What else can we stare at that's not helpful?

  15. FilePumpkinBluefaith on Feb 29, 2008 07:44 PM

[13] In the 20th century - the first 26 years of it to be exact?

  16. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:45 PM

    [12][14]background doesn't matter.

  17. FileCheeseburgerQurqirishDragon on Feb 29, 2008 07:45 PM

[13] If you mean to tanga the years, I tried a few ways, and haven't gotten anything yet.

  18. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:45 PM

    [15] Exactly!!!

  19. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:46 PM

[17] Have you noticed a theme in all of tonight's puzzles?

  20. FilePumpkinBluefaith on Feb 29, 2008 07:48 PM

    That's not a word!!

  21. FileCheeseburgerQurqirishDragon on Feb 29, 2008 07:48 PM

[19] Yes, my [7] should tell you that, but the answer isn't "lieutenant" or "mountain", so that isn't helping yet.

  22. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:51 PM

[20] I've never heard of it before either, but I assure you, it IS a word, and it means today!

  23. FileDuckieescKey on Feb 29, 2008 07:52 PM

The hard isn't supposed to be easy

  24. FileSailboatsteve59 on Feb 29, 2008 07:52 PM

heh. hurrah for good anagrammers that have extensive wordlists. awesome SAT word.

  25. FilePumpkinBluefaith on Feb 29, 2008 07:52 PM

[22] Fiiine... and I don't think I have the complete solve method either.

  26. Ag1Potatojeep on Feb 29, 2008 07:54 PM

Wow, I didn't know that word until just now... cool puzzle.

  27. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:54 PM

    [25] TG on the way

  28. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:54 PM

[21] Sending you a TG also!

  29. FileCheeseburgerQurqirishDragon on Feb 29, 2008 07:55 PM

[22] thanks, that got it, so I know I had all the letters. Can you TG the way to figure the order, or is it just an anagram to solve?

  30. Ag1Potatojeep on Feb 29, 2008 07:55 PM

Wow, who marked this puzzle as a 5 on difficulty?

  31. FileSailboatsteve59 on Feb 29, 2008 07:55 PM

[25] yeah, I think I'm gonna see if there's a better one than brute force. this puzzle maker is usually better than that. ^_^ I do like the style of this one, Jewelia

  32. FileSailboatCalloravion on Feb 29, 2008 07:55 PM

[22] Thanks. I would not had gotten in otherwise. I had tried the correct method, but because I didn't know the word I only got an analytic err.

  33. FilePumpkinBluefaith on Feb 29, 2008 07:55 PM

[30] Oooh! I did, pick me!

  34. Avatar_profileOrangeSinnott on Feb 29, 2008 07:57 PM

Wow! Solved my first "hard" and was under 100. Just discovered the site about a week ago but I'm a fan.

  35. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 07:59 PM

[32] Me too...I didn't like what I was getting, so abandoned that solve method at first. Who knew?

  36. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Feb 29, 2008 08:01 PM

    [34] Welcome!!

  37. FileSailboatsteve59 on Feb 29, 2008 08:04 PM

[32] [35] I was in the same boat for a bit.

  38. Avatar_profileBananaremlin on Feb 29, 2008 08:05 PM

In the puzzlemaker's defense, if it hadn't been such an unusual word, the puzzle would have just been an anagram-fest. I think once you've got the first 5 letters or so using the right method you know that can't be a coincidence, so you stick with it even if the result is a word you've never heard before.

  39. FileClockJewelia on Feb 29, 2008 08:09 PM

[29] Although I figured many people would anagram, it's not just an anagram. ;-)

  40. PonyguncropBananaPony on Feb 29, 2008 08:15 PM

Tough one... but I still made the top 100. Whew! :)

  41. FilePotatocavefish on Feb 29, 2008 08:54 PM

holy cow, in at a hundred at almost 9pm pacific!

  42. FileSailboatCalloravion on Feb 29, 2008 10:48 PM

[39] Aha, I've worked it out now. Great puzzle. The key information seemed clear but until now I didn't know how to use it right.

  43. DaddysleepsPotatoTankerbay on Feb 29, 2008 11:20 PM

my anagrammer didn't have it... but the date and a thesaurus helped.

  44. FilePotatorevchewie on Mar 01, 2008 01:37 AM

Wait a minute... That's **IT**????! Wooooowww.... I was *way* trying to overthink that one! Got the word from an anagram site, didn't recognise it, figured that couldn't be it, started trying other methods. Looked at the comments here and realised that the easy solution was *the* solution.

  45. FileLemonnysemt on Mar 01, 2008 05:16 AM

[22] Helped me the most... thanks soccer! :)

  46. Sc002a57f6Pumpkinrunart on Mar 01, 2008 06:23 AM

Always learnin' something from Tanga! GREAT set of puzzles as usual, jewelia!

  47. Avatar_profilePlumDaveStory on Mar 01, 2008 07:53 AM

    blah

  48. FileGarlicmartinp13 on Mar 01, 2008 08:01 AM

I demonstrated this word last night at McDonalds... between each bite of my greasy french fries. :)

  49. Ag1Potatojeep on Mar 01, 2008 10:52 AM

[39] I tried several methods of figuring out the order, many of them after having the answer. Can you TG the non-anagramming solve method to me?

    -JEEP

  50. FileClockJewelia on Mar 01, 2008 12:30 PM

    [49 TG sent.

  51. FilePotatorevchewie on Mar 01, 2008 01:19 PM

Could I second that TG request, jewelia? I'm not seeing it either.

  52. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Mar 01, 2008 05:47 PM

I sure would appreciate a TG too. Every method I try to backsolve without anagramming stops short part way through the word.
