CRAP application/x-shockwave-flash? What the heck is that doing above the puzzle?
[Reply from Aaron]
You can ignore that. It is an artifact of me trying to upload the wrong thing and having no idea how to get rid of it.
It took you 10 minutes and 24 seconds to solve this puzzle.
You were the 4th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
Average solve time: 7 minutes and 8 seconds.
Median solve time: 9 minutes and 47 seconds.
Soooo close to #1.
Got the clues, just working on how to fit them in. Tried two ways and either have too many or too few.
9:47 without pen and paper. I shoulda been faster.
Yay for top 10. And if I hadn't been trying to use something twice...
Put once answer in the wrong space and just missed the top ten.
# It took you 20 minutes and 1 second to solve this puzzle.
# You were the 19th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
A very demanding puzzle, but we knew how to handle it.
Got all but the two pictures in the lower right, but they weren't needed.
edit: Backsolved after I stared at them a little more. But they're still not necessary.
2nd edit: Boo on the use of that flag - it's legally restricted.

"CRAP application/x-shockwave-flash? What the heck is that doing above the puzzle?"
I hope it's not a comment on the quality of the puzzle :-)
ARGH!!! I got the gimmick on the third clue, whipped out most of the answers, and then completely choked putting them together. Top 27 is still cool, right? Right?
i am pretty sure I have all the words, I caught the theme, I think, but I can't seem to figure where to go with them...
Guess I am feeling slow. I get the common theme in the photos...can't get them to apply to the grid.
EDIT: OK, I finally got it. May be a bit tough for the colorblind folks.

Nah, I think you sare safe on that count. Seems like a fairly good puzzl3e so far... has me stumped halfway through :)
I think I have all the words except for the lower left picture. I've found a way to fit them into the grid (except for the clue I'm lacking), and while I think I know where to go from there, I can't make any sense of what I've got.
[edit] Never mind, figured out that picture and where I was going wrong.
I kept expecting a puzzle like this to show up. I remember seeing a crossword like it in Games magazine back when Will Shortz was editing it in the late 80's.
[14] If you know who that is, a trip to the IMDB will probably help.
I came in 13th. Earned two Tanga Points.
I'm pretty new here. What place do you have to finish to get more than two Tanga Points? Or is two the maximum?
[15] Thosw
I got the idea from a crossword puzzle I did on an airplane about 10 years ago.
[17] Spire
The tanga points range from one to four. Everyone gets the same number of points each night, regardless of placement in solving...
[17] Spire
The points are what the puzzle is worth, based on *The Mans'* interpretation of its difficulty. They can be anywhere from 1-4.
[16] I thought that was who it was initially, but for some reason didn't pursue it further. I was heading over to IMDB when I realized the answer.
Awesome puzzle! i enjoyed solving this one, it was fun with the right amount of "what do i do?" Kudos to the puzle maker. AND Good luck to all!
#33 in 38 minutes. Curse you plurals! I also boo on the flag, but I understand because someone else uses the regular one. Even though I still have no idea who that guy is, nice puzzle!
It took you 15 minutes and 33 seconds to solve this puzzle.
Salt-free, didn't get the flag though. Very nice puzzle.
Jeez. I kept thinking the picture next to the lower left one was also from a movie - one where a guy dies in the garden while playing with a boy - and unfortunately for me, the actor's name fit the theme. In retrospect, it really doesn't look like him.
39th.
Edit: Good puzzle!
It took you 15 minutes and 11 seconds to solve this puzzle.
You were the 50th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
Thank goodness you didn't use Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. :)
Ugh... took too long trying to fit the answers in the grid. Good puzzle.
Cool! Nothing to look up and fun!
Well done puzzle, I agree that it took some thought, but it was solvable. Not like some of the others lately.
My 200th normal puzzle tonight! Not counting both Tangathons and ZeFrank.
Didn't get them all, but got enough to solve (after 45 minutes!) Believe it or not, the Games magazine reference from Thosw [15] actually put me on the right track ... thanks!
Nice puzzle.
Thank-you annie and dajagr for test-solving this before presentation, and papabear for the title.
Good one. I think the clues were unambiguous and you could see the pictures! The two colors, one having to do with the common theme and one being the answer, was fun and an interesting variation. I actually found the website with the picture of the flag. The website for the European Union members had a different one. Plainer just Red and White no eagle
leadfoot are you still there I need some help
[33] ktwhouston
yep
And Everyone, thanks all for your kind words. I'm glad you liked it.

from wiki...
"... the use of the state flag with coat of arms is still legally restricted. This flag should be only flown on:
* <salty> embassies, consulates and other representative offices and missions abroad;
* civilian airports and heliports;
* civilian airplanes â only during international flights;
* buildings of seaport authorities;
* as a merchant (civil) ensign.
In practice, however, this restriction is often ignored and the two flags â with and without coat of arms â are treated as interchangeable"
If I were flying the flag I certainly would be legally restricted, however - for this use, I'm not so sure...
I hope I haven't offended anyone :-)
Nice puzzle. No salt and very little google needed. Solving the Jesse Ventura puzzle from 3/15 helped me immediately realize what to do.
[37] ouredman
That was the puzzle that prompted me to create this one with the idea from 10 yrs ago!
[36] It's not that it's offensive, it's that when trying to look up flags, you'd generally like to find a site that's going to have more than one of that country's flag. I had an inkling which country it was, but since it didn't match, I started looking at other European countries instead. That's when I realized that I didn't need to know which one it was - I'd already gotten the appropriate cross-letter.
So no harm, no foul. Just wish the widely accepted version had been used.
Great puzzle. Enjoyed it a lot.
Had some trouble with finding the flag (there are a lot of counties that end with "...land" out there).
I also called my own "kind elderly gentleman" by a different name, but the puzzle uses a fairly common name, so it shouldn't be a problem for most people.
Also had to keep in mind the possibility of the plural. Without the plurals my words were too short.
Again, I liked this puzzle a lot. Well done, PB.
[39] Thosw
Good Point, well taken.
[40] Thanks!
I have all the words- but the second step is stumping me. I've tried removing the commonality. which leaves one of my words with only three letters. I can't seem to come up with enough 8 letter words- regardless of what I try
Got it
Once I figured out the second step- I kept try in on the answer as well- silly me
I see the dandelions. There don't seem to be any 10 letter words. If they're weeds, so help me, I'm gonna kick somebody's arse!
;)
EDIT: I think I got the theme now. No butt-kicking will be necessary (unless it's the puzzle kicking mine!)
EDIT2: Nice puzzle. Once I figured out the theme (and then noticed the title of the puzzle {DUH}) it went smoothly.
There have been a couple of puzzles recently that required us to ID a flag. I found an awesome resource on the web, in case the need ever arises again:
http://www.flags.net/search.php
you just check the boxes that describe the flag you're looking at, and it shows you the few that match your criteria. for this one, i checked "horizontal stripes" "number of stripes: 2" "colors: red and white". that was all it took. there were like 4 matches, and it was obvious which was the right one. made it very very very easy to figure out the flag.
=)
That's awesome [44] maluba! I struggled a long time trying to find that flag today. I already bookmarked your flag site right next to my "Tanga.com" and "Boardgamegeeks.com" bookmarks.
Thanks.
It took you 11 minutes and 15 seconds to solve this puzzle.
Salt free! Good puzzle. I liked it. Got it all but the flag and then I figured out what it must be. Working the NY Times crossword puzzle definitely helps here, as they often use a similar trick.
[44] maluba
What a cool site! Bookmarked, you bet!
Wow. Perseverence pays off!
You solved this puzzle in 1319 days, 20 hours, and 47 minutes and were the 420th Tanga member to solve it.
It is definitely not as hard as I kept trying to make it.
